Marked Page 42

by Charisse Spiers

It doesn’t matter what type of person you are inside or what you’ve become from occurrences in your life, because every color has a complement, even black and gray, and she’s mine.

I wrap my arms around her and look into her bright blue eyes, picking up a glossy effect that sparkles from catching the light, and then kiss her on the tip of the nose. “Mothers are overrated. Let me start over. May I have the first dance?”

She smiles. It’s one of those bright white smiles, nothing hidden. “I guess in our cases they are. You can only have the first dance if you teach me how.”

I put some space between us, but not much, and place one hand at the small of her back, then grab her hand with the other, positioning it in the appropriate place. I pull her body against me, and then I start to sway. “Just like this.”

She lays her head on my chest and follows my movements. “I kind of like this. Maybe we should do it more often.”

“All you have to do is ask and it’s yours.”

“You kind of have a soft spot, Mr. Cox.”

  “Only for you, Miss Larsen.”

  “Mmmm.”

  “I love you.”

  “I love you too, handsome.”

“Are you excited about starting school next week?”

“Yeah. It’s still kind of surreal though. I guess it’ll start to sink in when I get there. I owe you a lot, Kaston. Really, I owe you everything.”

“There’s only one thing that I want.”

  “What’s that?”

  “Forever.”

  “I’m not going anywhere.”

I stop dancing so that I can look at her, placing my hand into my pocket. “Promise me.”

“I promise. I already told you that…with blood to be exact.”

  “Then wear my ring.”

  “Your ri-“

I pull out the small, velvet box and open it, presenting her with a diamond. Her eyes widen as she stares down at it. “I know I told you once that I wasn’t standing in front of you pledging my love to you, presenting you with a big ass diamond, or asking you to bear my children, but I’ve lied on two of the three. I’ve pledged my love to you and here I stand with a big ass diamond, yet it’s still insubstantial to what I feel you deserve. Yes, it’s only been one summer since I met you, yet I find myself constantly wishing for one more day. My dad once told me that when you find the one you just know. There is no instruction manual for love. When it’s presented to you the heart gives off a signal, and that’s what mine did when I met you. No amount of time will ever be enough. I want forever. I want you to be my wife. I don’t need a time frame…. I just need a promise.

I drop to one knee, slightly nervous. “Lux, will you marry me?”

She bites her bottom lip, looking between the ring and me. I’m not real sure what her response is going to be, until she smiles at the same time tears fall down her face. “You bet your fucking ass I will.”

“That’s my girl,” I whisper, as I pull the ring from the box and slide it on her left ring finger, fitting it in place perfectly. I stand and grab her in my arms, lifting her slightly above me. She places her hands on top of my shoulders and I twirl her around. “I’ll never fail you.”

“Yes you will, Kaston, and I’ll fail you, but then we’ll make up and move on, still loving each other just as hard if not harder, because that’s what you do when you find the one that’s worthy enough to be called your soul mate.”

  “Never fucking change, beautiful. Never.”

I wave the waiter over, knowing he’s waiting to pour the champagne, and giving him the cue that he can, because she said yes, giving us a real reason to celebrate. “Now I want to witness you while you have amazing foodgasms.”

“Only if you dance with me one more time, fiancé.”

I smile, mesmerized by the way that sounds coming out of her mouth.

The love of my life wants to dance, so I do, because I love her, and making her happy makes me happy. I may not have foreseen this, and probably would have laughed if I had, but now that I’m here I sure as hell am not going back.

There will be a continuance novella for Kaston and Lux, Forever Marked. Up next is Kross and Delta's story in Love and War, Shadows in the dark book two. Stay tuned.

Each time I write this it never gets any easier, because for the people that help make this possible, words always fall short. I’m going to do this one a little differently than the last several. I’m not going to name individual names, because for the people that are involved in the process I try to make sure I thank personally over and over again.

For a writer to create and weave together these stories for you there are so many people involved to help make it the best story it can be. From the cover design to the hours of editing and then the beta readers that take months out of their lifestyles reading as it’s written to keep me motivated and on track are only to name a few. These stories take an average of four months for me to develop and write. I am so thankful to the people that stick with me through the entire process and become my backbone and motivational cheerleaders during each one. Those people will never understand how truly valuable they are to me.

Thank you to all blogs involved that have helped promote each book as well. I feel like you guys don’t get thanked enough, but you are such a critical role to writers.

My readers, thank you so very much for all of the support continuously. You guys truly are rock stars. I really am so very thankful that each of you gave my writing a chance when there are a sea of other outstanding writers and beautiful stories. If you feel that you are never noticed, know that you are. You guys continue to make this possible for me with each book purchase, so again, thank you. If you enjoyed the book, please consider leaving a review. It doesn’t have to be elaborate or lengthy, just a few words that you enjoyed and why, but it helps more than you know.

I welcome social media interaction. During the time I’m writing I post teasers and mark my progress updates for where I am in the book to keep you informed. Facebook is updated daily and I do respond to questions. Marked is a little different than my other books currently available for purchase, but I do hope that you enjoyed it.

For information on how to purchase signed paperbacks and upcoming events I will be attending, check my website, author page, or Facebook page.
