Sigil Online: Paragons Page 32

“Woah wait, what’s a clan monster?”

“So the guild system is how players form actual tight-knit communities. Monsters can create clans, in a similar fashion, but obviously we’re not going to give those monsters guild-halls in the cities. But monster players will be able to communicate with other monster players, as well as other players that aren’t monsters.”

Blake inhaled, then exhaled slowly. He shook his head. “Alright, wow, this is a lot to process here! This is a pretty huge change to the dynamic of how Sigil Online operates.”

“Yes, it is,” said Jacob. “We wanted to really shake things up and give players a more meaningful competitive experience, besides just bashing each other as powered players. We saw what happened with the White Weevil incident, and we took a lot of things into account. We were already working on this monster-centric expansion, but we gathered a lot of data from what happened with the White Weevil. We want new players to feel like they can make a difference in Sigil Online. Whether they’re helping out a guild and working their way up to paragon status, or if they decide they want to become a monster to fight against such players.”

“Now, most players go out and fight these really powerful bosses in groups,” said Blake.

“If I’m a player just entering the game for the first time, and I know I want to be a monster, can I become this super powerful monster that can kill four or five other players, the day I become a monster?”

Jacob shook his head. “That’s not entirely accurate, but to a small extent, yes. Monster players are going to have stats just like every other player. But monsters will gain experience by attacking cities and players, or even other monsters. But if a monster decides to plow through the center of town, a bunch of players are going to come out to stop it, even if it’s a player or an AI. So even though these monsters will be individually stronger than other players, players will generally group up to kill them, as they always have. The main change, is that these monsters will potentially be more intelligent with an actual player behind the controls.”

“And this idea of clan monsters,” said Blake.

“Yes, that too,” said Jacob, “We’ll see groups of monsters working together, that are able to coordinate far better than our current AI would allow.”

“I gotta say, it sounds like it’s going to be just as exciting for the monster players, as it will be for the powered ones.”

Jacob nodded. “There’s still some work that needs to be done on the development side, but yes, we think so. We’re going to see a complete change in the Sigil Online ecosystem. I can’t wait to get it into players’ hands to see what they’ll do.”

Blake leaned over and offered his hand once-again to Jacob. “Well I appreciate you coming by and sharing that with us. Unfortunately, it looks like we’re out of time, so I’ll let you get back to working on this amazing expansion, which I personally can’t wait to get my hands on.”

Jacob smiled and shook Blake’s hand. “Thanks for having me.”

The camera shifted back to Blake. “So there you have it,” he said. “A brief glimpse at what the future holds in the world of Sigil Online, with its new expansion, ‘Hellions.’”
