  “Good riddance.”

He nodded in her direction. “Nice to meet you, Dr. Lambert. Hopefully, next time it’s on friendlier terms.”

She jutted out her chin in defiance. “I wouldn't bet on it.”

Taking her sister’s place on a honeymoon cruise to Alaska seems like a terrible idea until a stowaway makes it decidedly worse.

Dr. Cassandra Lambert is no fool. So, when her newlywed sister asks her to take the couple’s reservation, she gives her sister a resounding “no way.” The last thing she needs right now is to go on a vacation and get mistaken for a bride. Unfortunately, Marissa’s usual charm and logic convince Cassie to ignore her instincts, and before she knows it, she’s walking into the most luxurious suite she’s ever seen on board a ship. Momentarily fazed by the grandeur of it all, she forgets that nothing is ever as good as it seems.

Nothing could have prepared Air Force captain, Liam Harris, for the whirlwind that appears in his sights on his reluctant vacation. But there’s something about the fierce auburn beauty that catches his heart and won’t let go. Now, if she would only stop arguing with him for five seconds so he could just tell her...

Surrounded by the untouched majesty of Alaska in summer, Cassandra and Liam must decide for themselves whether they will be Sweethearts New.

  Acknowledgments

This book has been a bit of a turning point for me. It’s the longest book I’ve completed so far. The main female character, Marissa, is probably one of the best reflections of who I want to be. Her hopes and dreams are most closely related to who I am at my core. No story can be written in a vacuum, and I have so many people I need to thank for helping this book to grow into what it has become.

Thanks to Tara Phillips (and the host of other Facebook friends who contributed to a laugh riot) for the name of the sub shop as well as the unique aesthetic and vibe. There were so many good ideas that I may write a book or at least a scene, at some point, where one of the characters either daydreams about starting or actually starts a sub shop, just so I can share the hilarity with all of you.

Writing with the level of vulnerability which this book needed requires a significant support system. Thanks to my friends and colleagues at the Writing Gals Facebook group reminded me that there are highs and lows to author life, no matter how traditionally successful one is.

So much gratitude to my fellow author friends. To Jessica L. Elliott who has been kind enough to read as I write with positive feedback which kept me going. To Danielle Thorne who has been a beta reader on nearly all of my projects so far and gives me great feedback I used to polish up my first draft.

I cannot express all of my gratitude to Daniellé Dimond who edited the project for me, giving me the motivation I needed from the very beginning to press forward on this project with her boundless enthusiasm and well-articulated feedback.

The support of my parents, grandmother, and younger brothers has been invaluable. I’ve enjoyed hearing feedback from my dad and brother as they commented on how relatable Declan seemed to them. In addition, one can never underestimate how powerful a sandwich can be during that last week before a deadline!

As in Backward Blessings, my grandmother gave hours of service in being my audience as I read each draft aloud for continuity, word choice, and grammar mistakes.

I would, however, be remiss if I didn’t mention my friend, Francesca Schleiss. Without encouragement and the hours we spent in college dreaming up characters and stories, I wouldn’t be pursuing this lifelong dream of authorship. In particular, I would not have had the basic outlines of the stories you’ll read in Sweethearts New, Sweethearts Borrowed, and Sweethearts Blue.

Above all, I thank God for the gift it was to travel with Marissa and Declan through this story of healing and the opportunity I have to share it with my wonderful readers!

  About the Author

One of Rachel Andersen's favorite memories in college was when a music theory professor turned one of her exams back to her. With a twinkle in his eye, he said, “I can always tell that it’s your paper because you have a story written on the back.” She was just killing time after the ear training and aural skills portions of the test (where he played notes and the students were to write down the interval or melody), but it hinted at a larger love. She loves stories! She loves reading them, she loves hearing them, she loves telling them, and she loves living them!

Growing up as the oldest of nine children, she used stories to make mundane (and sometimes disgusting) tasks fly by like when she quoted Disney movies for her youngest siblings while she changed diapers or got them dressed. Though the youngest sibling is a senior in high school, the quotes she pulled out of thin air are used as family jokes that rock the house with laughter.

Stories propelled her through difficult days in college. They sustained her through the stress of student teaching. They were her favorite time of day in elementary and early childhood classrooms.

Her only hope is that these stories bring you as much joy and pleasure as they bring her!
