Urban Vampire II; Creature of the Night Page 25

As planned, the lower level made the most perfect underground suite of rooms. We even had huge windows covered in plantation shutters that gave the illusion of the outside.

Monica seemed content there. She even had her own private entrance.

Jason and Tyler had their own home nearby but they still use the carriage house during the full moon.

You see, we have our own small Werewolf pack now with Paul being the Pack leader. Both Tyler and Jason changed during the following full moon after the attack. We still don’t know about Baby Julie. She’s only three months so it’s hard to tell whether she will be Werewolf, Vampire or remain human.

No Tyler didn’t have a baby. Because of what happened to her with Johan she had lost the ability to bear children. Luckily the Weres hadn’t known that or she surely would have been killed. The baby is Monica’s.

When we discovered that she was pregnant it created a whirlwind in the Vampire Nation. Monica piqued the interest of many Vampires that wanted to bear children. But in the end it was just an anomaly based on the fact that she had been impregnated prior to being turned. We all watched her hoping that when the baby was born she’d find some type of reservoir of her old self. That never happened.

She turned right before we returned to the States. I did everything the way it was supposed to be done; the way it hadn’t been done for me because Tige had been on the run. I taught Monica to control her blood lust and how to read her Vampire instincts. I took her out to help her find her first donor…still, Monica had lost the human glint in her eyes.

One day she came to me and told me that if I didn’t take the baby she’d suck it dry. Paul and I took her as our own the second she was born. Monica never took a second look at her.

Monica’s special—as I am. She has succubus in her bite and can turn into a Creature, too. Although she has yet to awake during the day the sun does not burn her.

I love Monica. But she scares me. I still have a human element to me despite my powers. But Monica is colder than even the coldest Vampire that I’ve ever met. Her physical body healed completely; even her hand regenerated completely. She’s even considered one of the greatest beauties of the Vampire nation. But inside it’s a different story. The events that happened to her have scarred her and left her damaged.

But B.J., our little one’s nickname, is a joy. We have a doctor that flew from Italy. Dr Minara specializes in the supernatural. BJ is completely healthy, human and alive. Because of BJ so many of us have healed.

B.J gave Ran a reason to live.

I asked him to become my First Lieutenant. He agreed. I have to take blood from him regularly to keep the link between us. The first time I did it I felt his intent. Ran hoped to die serving me so that he could join Julie. I knew that I had to find a reason for him to continue and the best one was B.J.

The first day we brought her home I brought Ran over for a special favor.

“What’s going to become of our little Julie, rejected by her Mother, not really in the human world or the Vampire one? Ran, I’m scared for her.”

He watched her as she lay sleeping in her crib. “It won’t be easy for her.”

I looked at him seriously. “Will you be her Protector?” He looked at me in surprise. It was another word for Godfather—a word that the Neratomay was unable to say. “If something should happen to either me or Paul I want you to take her.”

He blinked and then looked at the helpless baby in the crib. I saw something melt in him, a subtle shift.

I left the room then, and a few minutes later when I’d returned with her bottle, Ran was sitting in the rocker with her--singing a lullaby that I’d never heard.

I knelt beside both of them. “Hi Baby Julie. You gonna let Uncle Ran give you your bottle?”

Ran looked at me fearfully then chuckled. “Kim…I’ll be B.J’s Protector but I think I’ll leave the feeding and diaper changing to you and Paul.”

There have been some definite ups and downs. A surprising development was what happened when the Elder Council completed their investigation of me. Obviously I’m still among the undead—the Elder Council did not carry out their wish to rid me from the Neratomay Nation. It was the tip from Athena that saved me.

When Marsalis returned from Spain and I was finally questioned by the Elder Board they saw something very interesting within my memories. They saw that I was privy to more than the secret of daywalking Vampires—but that wasn’t it, nor that the Board willingly sacrificed Master Vampires to a pointless sure death in initiating them to an Elder Board that only daywalkers sat. It wasn’t even that I now knew the ultimate reason for their exile of Alexis—to prevent us from joining forces and becoming a powerful duo. No…what saved my life is that Athena knew these things. And Athena could not be killed by a board less powerful than her. And because I now was something she wanted, no one wanted to risk pissing her off too badly by offing me.

So while I was cleared of any wrong doing…Athena did not fair quite as well. She was exiled from our very world for one hundred years for the murder of Esmerelda. It’s not quite a punishment as her prison would be one within her own mind. Within her mind a Vampire with her abilities could make a paradise…

I hear that when she was placed in her tomb she laughed. She would be fed fresh blood once a month until her exile was ended.

Alexis was moved from Barcelona to the Middle East. For some strange reason The Barcelona Council was reluctant to keep him in the vicinity. So he was moved to the Middle East…and I was banned from going anywhere near there.

Despite the worse being avoided, my life isn’t perfect. I still have two days filled with council meetings. I still have safehouses that need to be policed. Tyler and Jason are my Angel’s of death. They both healed perfectly thanks to the Lycan blood. We hunt and punish Rogues, but we make time for fun as well.

Just like Paul promised, he brought me life. We vacation and go out dancing, shopping in New York or just to the movies. We take Julie to the park. There are ups and downs; its life.

Paul snuggled under the comforter with me. He ran his hands up my legs where they nestled comfortably between them.

“The adoption is going to be final today. Are you ready to go to court?”

“I’m nervous. Do you think I can pass for human?”

“Don’t be silly. You look completely human…as long as you don’t allow your eyes to change.”

“I’ll wear sunglasses just in case.” I hated interacting in the human world—I was especially nervous about going to court or anywhere that there were human officials.

Paul chuckled. “No sunglasses. We’ll invest in a pair of contacts. I don’t want this looking like some celebrity rock star adoption.”

His attention returned to kissing my neck. I sighed and ran my fingers along the hard planes of his face. Paul’s face still bore scars of the Werewolf attack a year earlier as did the rest of his body. But he was still as beautiful as ever —just a little more rugged.

His hand crept a bit higher along my inner thighs and I smiled.

“I wish we could give B.J. a brother or sister.”

“I do too, Baby. But I don’t think that’s going to be possible.”

“You said other Vampires have had babies, and look at Monica-”

“Yeah, but Monica’s case is special.”

His kisses trailed down my neck and to my collarbone. I pulled off my pink chemise. Paul leaned back eyes gleaming. I slipped off my panties next and Paul allowed his hands to travel upward brushing against my mound. I was already swollen and wet, my natural lubricant clear and silky. I wrapped my fingers around his thick shaft until his eyes fluttered closed.

He fell onto his back indicating how he wanted it; me on top. But first I wanted to feel him in my mouth.

Later as we dozed lazily I heard that Julie had awakened. I checked that Paul was still asleep and I slipped on a t-shirt and shorts. We didn’t need a baby monitor. As a Vampire and Werewolf
with super human senses we were better equipped than any old baby monitor.

I went upstairs and entered the nursery. When we bought the house I never thought that I’d have a reason to decorate a nursery. There are a lot of things that I didn’t think I’d have an opportunity to do.

Julie was waving her chubby little hands at the mobile above her crib when I entered her room. I gripped those chubby little fingers lightly and she gurgled happily. Her beautiful blue eyes stared up at me knowing that I was her Mom and that pleased me like nothing else could.

“Hi Babygirl. Hi my Sweetness.” I cooed and then checked her diaper. After changing her I dressed her quickly.

I picked her up loving the baby smell of her and the roundness of her plump little body. I spent some time snuggling with her.

“Let’s go wake up Daddy and have breakfast.”

When we walked into the bedroom Paul peeked at us with one eye. He smiled sitting up. The baby gurgled excitedly near my ear.

Paul froze suddenly and then he leaped out of bed.

  “Kim!”

He scared me so bad that I nearly dropped the baby. “Paul, what’s wrong?”

He was pointing at Julie. “Look at her.”

  I turned her to me.

Her normally blues eyes had turned golden.

  URBAN VAMPIRE III

  The Return of Alexis

In Poland, among the ruins of tens of dead Werewolves, I drank the last of Monica’s life blood and then I opened my vein and poured my blood down her dying throat.

I stayed with her as we went back to the safe house. Mara and Karen screamed hysterically when they saw her dead form. I wanted to join them but knew that she’d return to us.

I never left her side and Paul barely left mine. Mara and Karen would come in only long enough to give me a feeding…they wouldn’t look at Monica’s lifeless form. The blood smelled like decay on her body….

Then, beneath the fresh sheet, her form changed, limbs elongating and repairing themselves.

We’d washed her but couldn’t get her clean because some of what was supposed to be on the inside was now on the outside. But when the sheet fell away from her nude form she was clean and whole.

I remembered tears sliding down my cheeks as Monica rose. Her body rose into a sitting position but seemed to be controlled by a force outside of herself. Like a marionette. Paul hurried out of the room to get Mara and Karen but before he left I remembered seeing the stricken look on his face; As if he was…afraid.

  I didn’t understand…at least not then.

Monica’s head turned in my direction and her eyes were a dead lifeless grey.

‘Monica?’ I called her name. Then her mouth opened and her teeth were long and ready. I could see her nostrils flare reflexively as she sniffed me out. And I knew what she was going to do seconds before she did it.

She flung herself at me and I blocked her with my forearm. Her teeth sank painfully down to the bone.

I remembered biting back a cry. I was so careful with her when I turned her back onto the bed so that she was now beneath me. But she worked my arm like a mad dog with a bone and the sounds from her throat weren’t human, weren’t animal…they were…demonic.

I didn’t try to remove my arm…she needed to feed. She needed my blood. But was it supposed to be like this?

The door opened and Mara and Karen stopped short of entering with terrified looks in their eyes. Paul pushed past them and Tony was with him.

Monica saw them too and she went like a wild animal for Paul who was closest to her. Her fangs sank in his shoulder and his werewolf came up a split second later.

His hands had thickened and formed talons that sliced at Monica in deadly defense.

It resulted in a face wound that left her skin flayed to the bone.

Tony went for Monica while I went for Paul.

I was crying and screaming and Tony got Monica’s nude form back to the bed where he kept her immobilized in a hold that he had used on me just days before.

“What’s happening to her?!” I remembered screaming.

Tony’s eyes looked at me in confusion. “Kim…this is blood lust. You’ve never felt this?”

I shook my head with a stricken expression. “No.

Paul was shaking as I held him back from Tony and Monica. He had gone white. He untangled from my grip and backed away from the bed until he was at the doorway with Mara and Karen.

I rushed to the bed. “This is bad…this is bad.”

“Feed her!” Tony yelled. I jumped into action and gave her my wrist. She jumped on it with an almost death grip.

I saw Paul turn away before forcing himself to look back to us.

By small degrees Monica began to relax and Tony relaxed his hold on her. I remembered being scared then. I was literally afraid that she’d get me. I was afraid of her; of that lifeless look in her eyes and the way her body moved as if it wasn’t being controlled by her. It was like looking at Alexis if Alexis saw me as nothing more than his next meal…
