  Vanilla Pod Socks

  Finished Measurement:

  8¼"/ 21cm from cuff to heel and 9½"/ 24cm from heel to toe. Woman’s shoe size medium foot circumferences.

  Materials:

  Yarn Knit Picks Imagination Bare [50% Merino wool. 25% Superfine alpaca. 25% Nylon; 438yd (400m) /100g]

  Needles US size 1(2.25mm) 32"/80cm circular for magic loop method. Feel free to change to smaller or larger size needles for narrow or wide foot.

  Notions Tapestry needle, stitch markers.

  Gauge:

  18sts and 22 rounds in St sts over 2"/5cm.

  Note:

  This is a very simple sock with eye-catching eyelets in the center of leg and instep. If you prefer a fitted cuff, please use one size smaller needle for the ribbed band

  Cuff:

  CO 64 sts used preferred method. I used old Norwegian CO in this pattern. Join in the round, be careful to not twist.

  *K1, p2, k1; rep from * around. Work 2 × 2 rib pattern 1¼"/3.5cm from CO edge.

  Leg:

  Rnd1 K48, yo, k16.

  Rnd 2 Knit around.

  Rnd 3 Knit around.

  Rnd 4 K47, 3rd st over 2nd and 1st st on the left needle, k1, yo, k1, k15.

  Rep Rnd 2–4 6"/15cm from CO edge.

  Single eyelet stitches on center of front leg and instep has 3 rows (rnds) rep

  Divide 32 sts for sole and 33 sts for instep.

  Heel Flap:

  Work back and forth first 32 sts as follows;

  Row 1 * Sl1, k1; rep from * across.

  Row 2 Sl1, p31.

  Rep Row 1 - 2 14 times more.

  Turn Heel:

  Row 1 Sl1, k18, ssk, k1, turn.

  Row 2 Sl1, p7, p2tog, p1, turn.

  Row 3 Sl1, knit to previous slipped st (aka gap st on RS), ssk, k1, turn.

  Row 4 Sl1, purl to previous slipped st (aka gap st on WS), p2tog, p1, turn.

  Rep Row 3–4 5 times more. 20 sts rem.

  Next row Sl1, k19, turn garment clockwise, pick up 16 sts on chained edge, place marker (pm), work in patt next 33 sts for instep, (pm).

  Gusset Decrease:

  Pick up 16 sts on chained edge right side of heel flap, k36, (sm), work in pattern next 33sts for instep, (sm). There are 52 sts for sole and 33 sts or instep. Total 85 sts rem.

  Rnd 1(dec rnd) K2, ssk, knit 4 sts before marker, k2tog, k2, (sm), work in pattern, (sm).

  Rnd 2 Work in pattern.

  Rep Dec every other rnd 9 times more. 32 sts for sole and 33 sts for instep, total 65 sts rem.

  Keep working on single eyelet patt.

  Foot:

  Work in pattern for foot 2"/5cm shorter then desired foot length.

  Total 65 sts rem.

  Toe:

  Knit next 4 rnds.

  Dec rnd *K2, ssk, knit 4 sts before next marker, k2tog, k2; rep from * once more.

  Dec 4 sts every 3rd rnd 3 times, every other rnd 4 times, every rnd 5 times. 13 sts rem. Remove markers.

  Finishing:

  Cut yarn. Use a tapestry needle to draw the cut yarn through rem stitches. Pull tight to close. Tie off.

  Block lightly.

  Abbreviation:

  CO Cast on

  K Knit

  P Purl

  YO Yarn over

  Ssk Slip 2 sts individually, knit them together

  K2tog knit 2 sts together

  P2tog Purl 2 sts together

  (pm) Place marker

  (sm) Slip marker

  The EASY Sock

  Materials:

  Naked sock OR exchange berroco ultra alpaca and misty alpaca hand paint sock

  Size 2 sock needles

  Crochet hook darning needle for Kitchner St.

  Sizes 56, 60, 64

  CO, 60

  Cuff:

  Join and k2, p2, continue for 2 ins. 20 sts. on each needle. Making sure that the sts. are pointing toward the middle.

  Con. Knitting for 7 in or the length before you start the heel

  Heel:

  Divide sts. On three needles. Knit 32 sts. Knit 16 sts. Knit 16 sts. This will bring you back to the 32 sts for the heel. Slip 1st st. knit across, turn slip 1t st. knit across. Do these two rows until 30 rows.

  Turning Heel:

  knit 16 sts. Place marker (pm) knit 3 sts. Slip 2 sts. and kit, knit 1. (ssk2) TURN knit to marker, slip marker (sm) knit3, knit2, together (K tog.2) purl 1, Turn. Purl back slipping marker purl to break and turn. These 2 rows will form the heel. You should end on the wrong side. Purl back. Next row: Slip 1st st. knit 8 st. to marker. Leave these st.8 stich on the needle and remove marker. Knit the next 8 st.

  Instep. Pick up 16 st. With your working yarn and with your crochet hook pick up 16 sts. Poke the crochet hook under the slipped sts. Along the heel and pull the working yarn through and slipping it onto the needle. Continue until you have 16 new sts. on the needle. You should now have 28 sts. on that needle. Knit the next 16 sts. Knit the next 16 sts. You are on the other side of the instep. Pick up 16 sts. In the same manner that you did for the other side, knit the 8 sts onto that needle (28 sts) You should now have formed what looks like a boat. Pin a marker to indicate beginning of round.

  Row 1, knit around

  Row 2, knit around

  Row 3, knit to 3 sts to the end, K2tog, knit 1, knit 16, knit16, knit 1 ssk, knit to the end.

  Row 4, knit around. Continue row 3, 4 until you have 16 stitches on the instep needles. You have completed the instep. You should have a total of 16 sts on each needle.

  Foot:

  At this point you may put 20 sts on 3 needles and continue to knit 7 in. or until you have reached the length for the heel to the beginning of the big toe. Everyone measures differently, and this may be longer.

  Toe:

  Divide 16 st. on 4 needles making sure that you have a top, bottom and sides. Place a marker on one side for the beginning of the round Row 1: K1, K2tog. K to end, K 16, K to 3 st ssk, K1. This completes around. Row 2: Knit, continue these 2 rows until you have 10st. on each needle. Next, work row 1 until you have 5 st. on each needle on the last round. Next row: Knit 5 st. knit the next 5, you now have 10 on the needle, do the same for the next 2 needles. You now have 2 needles with 10st. each.
