Alien Warrior's Bounty Page 21

Needless to say, they were both pretty shocked when Rogar revealed his true appearance to them. But they were surprisingly cool about it.

They could tell how loving and protective Rogar was toward me, and that was all that mattered.

Now I shrug one arm out of the tunic that I’m wearing in order to bare my breast, and then I let Zokar feed. As usual, it stings sharply at first, but then he gets a good latch, and I experience that sensation of the milk let-down. The fullness in my breasts is relieved as my baby suckles.

Even after all of the insane things that I’ve been through over the past months, I still can’t get over the fact that my body has the seemingly magical ability to feed another living being.

Now that he is quiet and happily feeding, I carry Zokar onto the outer patio of our dwelling which overlooks the valley and jungles below. Down on the landing pad, I can see the small forms of Kozar and Amber as he shows her the ship.

I smirk as they disappear inside the craft together.

  “Amber,” I mutter to myself.

Rogar comes up behind me and coils one smooth, strong arm around my midsection. He dips his face, pressing his lips to the top of my head.

We stand like that for a moment, just the three of us, looking out from the balcony over the jungles of our secret world. In the distance, flocks of alien birds drift across the white clouds. The sun bathes our dwelling in warmth. A cool breeze wafts over us.

Suddenly, the gun cutter powers up and rises from the flat concrete pad that is scorched and blasted by the propulsion motors.

“Rogar?” I ask, as I watch the vessel rise.

  “Mm-hm?”

“Kozar must be flying the ship, right?”

  “Mm-hm.”

I scan my eyes over the landing area, but I see no sign of Amber down there.

“Rogar,” I gasp, “I think Amber is on that ship too!”

Rogar tilts his head up to look.

“Hm, I think you’re right,” he says, seemingly unconcerned.

We watch the ship as it soars away, gradually shrinking to a tiny speck winking in the sunlight before it swoops up into the upper atmosphere and beyond that into outer space.

I knew it was a terrible idea bringing Amber here.

“Rogar, did your brother literally just abduct my best friend?”

My alien warrior snugs his embrace around my midriff. He kisses the top of my head while his other hand cups mine where I am holding our feeding baby’s little head.

Rogar chuckles again, a deep, rumbling, masculine sound.

“I guess it runs in the family.”
