“Someone once told me I couldn’t trust her and she was right.” He kissed her again. “She stole my heart.” From this moment on, his whole life would be different.
29 New Location of Violet Five: Nova
Nova dragged another table across the room. Freya followed, carrying two chairs. Once the table was in its place, she took in the room. A long bar sat on the side of a large room. Several tables scattered through the open floor with a line of booths against the wall. The new Violet Five wasn’t open yet, but she already had requests for backroom meetings from resistance members. She wondered how Cay and Alastor were progressing with setting up the surveillance room.
“How will I know when to meet you?” Freya plopped into a chair.
“Just come by when you can. I will spend most of my time here. Anyone working the bar will know to get me, so just sit in that booth over there.” Nova picked a booth that sat further out than the rest.
“Okay.”
“Just remember—“
“Yes, don’t go out of my way to find out information. Just keep doing what I’m supposed to. Yes, I’ll strive for promotions, but I would do that without you.” Freya rolled her eyes and stood. “Of course, keeping my cover is the most important part. I know what I’m doing.”
“One of these days you’ll hear my thoughts before I even think them.”
“I doubt that. I learn more every day, but I don’t have a knack for bending time. Though, that would be useful.” Freya walked towards the door. “Until next time, Nova.”
Nova shook her head at Freya’s exit. Life would never be boring with her around. Heading through the door behind the bar, she pressed her hand against the palm scanner. Only employees could access the back rooms. She walked through the corridor and stopped at another door. Pressing the button, a retinal scanner activated. It chimed when it matched and the door slid open.
Cay and Alastor were standing over a table and debated over a large tab screen. Nova slid up behind him and wrapped her arms around him. She smiled as his weight shifted into her. Never in her life did she imagine it ending up like this.
30 New Location of Violet Five: Cay
“I still think we should have gone with the other location. The one closer to the outer-city with the second level. It was better fortified than this location.” Alastor jostled plans around on the table as he protested.
“I understand that, but since most of this building is underground, it makes this location more secure. That’s why Nova picked it.”
Alastor growled instead of responding with words. Cay realized during the last few days that Alastor was a man of few words, and lots of growls. Looking over to the monitors on the wall, he saw Nova and Freya moving furniture. As much as he wanted to help, he agreed with her. For now, even Freya didn’t need to know about him or Alastor.
“Look, we need to make the best of what we have, instead of going on about things we can’t change.” Alastor grumbled something too quiet for Cay to understand. “Back to topic, what do you think is the best way to reinforce the vertical tunnels? Since this was a mining operation, the lifts should be safe, but I still want to make improvements. Some technology is outdated.”
Alastor broke down the specs of each lift tunnel and deficiencies of the current design, which upgrades were the best, and possible plans they had the resources for. Arms slid around his waist, pulling him back. Alastor grew quiet. Even though Nova tried her best, Alastor kept his distance. He hoped eventually Alastor would relax a little.
“Cay, can I talk to you for a minute?” Her voice woke something in him. Spinning around, he scooped her into his arms and carried her to their private residence quarters.
“Do you really want to talk?” Still holding her tight, he kissed her neck.
“Uh, yeah. We should.” He trailed kisses down her chest until he kissed the swell of her breast. Before she could speak, he rubbed his beard on her breast, nipping it with his teeth through her shirt.
“Still sure?”
“I think it can wait a few minutes.”
“A few minutes? You wound me and my pride with those harsh words. Make it a few hours, and we have a deal.”
She guided his face to hers and gave him the hottest kiss of his life. “Deal.”
