Maybe they did... and maybe they didn't.
I am, after all, Sean; the panther boy of the jungle, the forest sprite...
Notes From the Author
Having been born in the early 60's and had my childhood in the 70's, Disney was a big part of my young life. I remember stories my dad would tell me of his own childhood, having read Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan series, and how he always wished he was Tarzan. Even to this day, even though my dad has gone on, people who knew him still refer to him as Tarzan.
Likewise, I always wished that I was Mowlgi of Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book. During the summer time of the early 70's I would dress in just a bathing suit and spend hours playing in my backyard, which was large and with a lot of trees, and be Mowgli!
Later, after I grew up and was serving in the U.S. Navy as an adult from 1983 to 1987, the movie The Neverending Story came out, and... well... I wanted to be Atreyu... thanks a lot!
In 1995 I was badly burned at a company I was working in, with 3rd degree burns covering 85% of my body.
Now, more than 20 years later, I find that I have also been suffering from PTSD, and a traumatic brain injury which was never diagnosed. Now I'm on medication to help with everything, including seizures. And... I find myself revisiting all those daydreams I had as a young boy, and I finally decided to write them down.
So I wrote about a character that is an amalgamation of my 2 most beloved characters: Mowgli and Atreyu, all wrapped up in one character, and I always loved the name Sean! I also drew inspiration from a number of my favorite authors: Rudyard Kipling; Edgar Rice Burroughs; Stephen Lawhead; Ted Decker, and yes, J. R. R. Tolkien, and C. S. Lewis.
