He nodded. “I’m counting the days, my love. And I’m happy that Will is content with the nursemaids so that you are not so busy in the nursery.”

“I’m sorry we did not get longer together before he was born, William. It was very remiss of me.”

His chuckle rumbled through her. “I think I might have been equally at fault. And it was over a year. It just seems to have gone very quickly.”

“It is proof, perhaps, of our happiness, that the time seems to have passed so speedily.” Her murmur was quiet. “I enjoy each day to the full, yet I find myself longing for the time we have alone in our chamber at night. It is the best time of all.”

He tipped her face up to his, the features so familiar and his expression so dear to her. Love flared in his dark eyes.

“I love you more each day, dearest Elizabeth.”
