Lewis stood to attention in front of Gabriella and the harp began to play Mendelssohn’s wedding march. Emma tucked her hand around her father’s arm and together they walked through the crowd to join Lewis. “I’d really like one of those harps,” she heard Alice comment to Cyril as she and Abraham glided past. It certainly felt as if her feet were off the ground. Never had she been so deliriously happy. Her cheeks ached from smiling and love for the world and everyone in it seemed to be flowing around her.
While it would look like a legal wedding to the non-angels in the crowd the document they actually signed after the ceremony would be an employment contract with the Council, not a wedding certificate. They would be as married as anyone with this ceremony, perhaps more so. Who else got married by the Angel Gabriella? Very few these days and the holy community were making the most of the celebration.
They reached Lewis’ side. He looked magnificent in his uniform. Bold, brave, handsome and strong. She ran out of adjectives and grasped his hand as they stood side by side. The cherub choir began with an arpeggio that led into ‘How Great Thou Art’. Spellbound, the guests listened.
Even their neighbours from across the street who had gathered on the sidewalk, bowed their heads. There was a reverence in the air as a blessing from above drifted through the gathered crowd, kissing each soul, lifting each heart and moving aside any lingering sadness.
“Dearly beloved,” began Gabriella. “We are gathered here today, in the presence of God, to join this man and this woman in holy matrimony...”
And so their married life began.
The End

About Deryn
I write fantasy, romance, cosy mystery, Young Adult, Sci.Fi.and short stories. I am published in all of these genres. I also dabble in poetry. I belong to several writing groups and book clubs. I am an avid reader. I enjoy helping emerging authors and read the work of some of my fellow authors, and they read mine. In this way we help each other get our plot lines in order and our characters believable. I live in New Zealand, which is on the right-hand side of Australia, between the equator and the south pole, if you have a map handy. It looks isolated but with the internet we are moments away from anywhere in the world. A collection of islands we have a democratic government and produce a lot of food which we sell around the world. The population is outnumbered seriously by sheep and cows - and I'm still looking for the hobbits. I hope you enjoy my books as much as I enjoy writing them.
