“Then you are not dismayed with my character?”
He laughed. “My dear, I have finally met my match. In what situation ever would I be dismayed with that? Until you, I walked around this listless society in a blur. And when you popped in, my world instantly brightened. There is no one I am more proud of, or find more endearing, than you.”
She smiled. “Then you really do wish to marry me?”
“More than anything. And I have since the very first time we met. It is why I had to come back. I could not resist being away even then.”
She kissed him and then whispered, “So tell me honestly. Were you worried about facing my father tomorrow? I am sure you have heard about his exceptional handling of the sword and pistols.”
“While I am also an expert at both, I would never, ever wish to be on the opposite end of such a legend as him.”
“Oh?”
He kissed her nose. “I will forever be grateful that you have kindly removed me from that dreaded situation. For as you say, we will be much more greatly occupied.”
She grinned. “Yes, we will! Now let us hurry to my house. I must pack!”
“Very well. And thank you, my knight in shining armor. You are definitely the most perfect woman for me.”
“Well, I would hope so, Everett! I certainly hope so.”
