“Um-hmm. Your text is what greeted me this morning following a pretty amazing dream.” She watched as he waited on her, focused. “Jake was in it.” Brody flinched but maintained eye contact in a way that struck her as patient, and steady. Resolved. “It was beautiful.” His chest rose and fell. She sensed the way he braced, and fought a negative reaction to that comment. Maria took hold of his shoulders. “The dream wasn’t beautiful because of Jake. It was beautiful because of the way it acted on me afterward—like an epiphany. My dream this morning revealed the deepest wish of my heart.”
“Which is?”
His frame remained taut. She longed to melt that reinforcement to nothingness. Now she realized she had the power to do just that. “You, Brody. The deepest wish of my heart is you. The dream—Jake’s visit—affirmed everything I already know and feel. Love. Love for you.”
Brody’s eyes lit. His hold on her tightened. When his smile dawned, it hit her like a sunbeam full of hope and joy. Maria marveled at the way revealing her emotions could lead to such a stirring, life-altering moment.
Brody cleared his throat, drew her even closer. “Are you saying…?”
Maria felt like she was coming home—for good and for all. “I’m saying I hope this is the first of many, many Thanksgivings together, Brody.”
“Thanksgiving or any day, Maria. For as long as you'll have me.”
“I've got a lifetime to give, for as long as you’ll have me.” She breathed the words, embracing the rejuvenation, the vitality that sang through her system. “Loving you has made me realize I’m blessed by a life and love to give…and the lifetime we share is going to be beautiful, Brody Lang. Absolutely beautiful.”
His answer to that was a long, rich kiss that filled her to overflowing.
