I turned around quickly when I spotted my surprise.
She let her arms fall to her side, and across her taut stomach from hip to hip, there was a beautiful realistic picture of the same thing she painted on me, except instead of her name was mine.
I fell to my knees in front of her to get a closer look. It was still scabbing over; she got my name tattooed on her body.
“You like it?” She asked on a whisper. Unsure of how I was going to react.
I stood my face as blank as I could keep it.
“You love me, huh?” I asked.
Her eyebrows scrunched in slightly, “Yes, Ink. I love you. I wouldn’t have gone through all this shit for someone I thought was just a good friend.” She answered sarcastically. She put her hand up and began pulling on her earrings, “Well? Do you love me?”
I bent down, picked her up, and threw her down on the bed. “I love you more than anything Jazmine, I plan on showing you that shit for the rest of my life. Starting right now.” The words flowed out of my mouth quickly. I had never been more sure of anything than I was about how much I loved this woman.
I crawled on the bed, not caring about messing up the sheets or the splatters of paint on the floor, all I cared about was this gorgeous woman who somehow gave me a second chance at life.
Epilogue- Roth
Ten years. I had been working for Ruby and Harrington Giles for ten years, and it made me soulless.
“Come on, let’s go, you have to move out of here." I opened the cells one by one. It was the sixth estate I’d been to in the states; prisoners all left to die. Now Ruby and Harrington were gone, there was no one to care for these people. I couldn’t leave them, though, and I attempted to make it to as many estates as could. Unfortunately, I had reached many of them too late. The stench of death hung thick in the air.
“Where are we supposed to go? Will they come back for us?” One of the women asked as I let her out of her room.
“No, no one is coming for you. You are all free to go. Take what you want from the estate and then get out of here.” Her fear was almost palpable.
I let my head hang low as they all rushed by me; some of them stopped to glare at me while others cursed in my direction, I deserved all of their hostility. I may not have tortured any of them, but I didn’t stop those that did even when I had every chance to. I couldn’t. I knew their torturer when she was nothing more than a little girl playing tea in her bedroom.
Ruby Giles used to be Ruby Cinders, my baby sister.
She was always a little different. She would trap animals and wait for them to die. She would cut the heads off all her dolls, and she would purposely get into fights so that people would beat on her. I did my best to protect her, and when her needs became more savage, I didn’t try to stop her. I helped her. Even when I went off and had my little family, I always made sure that Ruby was okay. She wasn’t; her brain was far from fucking okay.
I knew Nico would kill her, but I also knew I couldn’t. He was doing something I could never do, no matter how sick I knew my baby sister was. Now I was stuck cleaning up her mess. If I could gain even an iota of penance out of this, I would.
The cells were cleared, and I made my way out of the house. I walked toward my Mustang, got in and punched in the address of the Wings of Diablo clubhouse. The information was easier to obtain than I thought it would be. Ruby and Harrington were just one cog in a big machine. Yes, now the machine was stopped, but they would soon be replaced, and the machine would start up again. I couldn’t let that happen. As much as I wanted to destroy the whole fucking outfit, I was only one person. Nico, on the other hand, had clubs at his disposal, ties to the Croatian mafia, and not to mention some ties to the FBI. He would help me take this shit down. He had to.
