Freeing You Freeing Me

The Judge looked from left to right, trying to see if anyone was nearby close enough to hear. “I had an inheritance,” she said. “I don’t need my judicial job.”

“But you like abusing the position of it…especially on young men and broken families, desperate for help.”

“I’m only doing my share to help them,” Judge Seevers said. “Look how I was able to pull Collins out of jail and off the streets. Look at how I was able to grant joint custody for your sister Nydia to both your parents although your mother is a nut case. And Tate…don’t think he’s so very innocent that he could and should be out of jail. He’s got a record long enough to have him stay there until he’s at least 40,” the Judge said.

“So all these things you ruled on, without my or my families’ knowledge, without Collins or Tate’s knowledge, you expect favors back for them? Concessions?”

“No, no, that’ll be wrong,” Judge Seevers said.

“Then I’m sure you would sign this document,” I handed her a letter I drafted up and a pen.

She read it quickly and said, “Hell no. I’m not signing this.”

“Then I guess you’d rather spend time in prison?”

  She looked scared now. “Prison?”

“Yes,” I said. “I’ve fought a rapist face to face. I’ve overcome obstacles most people would run away from, but I’ve stayed. Don’t think I would hesitate to take you to prison if you don’t stop tormenting Collins and anyone else.” I thrust the paper and pen in front of her face again.

Without protesting, she hastily signed the letter, and I looked through it before saying. “There are many inmates in California behind bars that you put in there. Thanks to overcrowding and no state funds, some of them will be released, free from jail. Some of them have written death threats against you. I’d suggest an early retirement with a quick escape to the tropics or anywhere in the world where they can’t find you.”

I’ve never seen a person’s face drain of color so fast as the Judge’s as I left her. When I was done with the letter, I made copies and mailed one from the courthouse to Collins.

I kept a few copies with me in case there were more victims of the Judge’s around, thinking they have to do the Judge’s dirty deeds still.

Then I headed back home to where the love of my life was waiting for me. Nothing could make me happier.

I brought the necklace, as directed, to the meeting place outside of the club, in some little coffee shop nearby. I would have kept the necklace so I could return it to her, but I was under pressure. I had a rap sheet as long as a hard day’s night, and it was going to suddenly reappear in my records out of nowhere.

I fingered the emerald and diamond necklace, loving the feel of it, remembering how beautiful it shone on Sam’s neck. I sighed. I should have never agreed to do that video with Sam. I was already in love with her, but to have been able to taste her, feel her, and nearly made love to her; I could not get her out of my mind. She would never choose me, I know, over Collins. She loved him as any man could wish a woman could love a man. It was such a hopeless love I have for her. So hopeless, and to live under the same roof as the man who could touch her everyday, who could kiss her whenever he wanted, to fuck her, to make love to her; it was too much. I had to move out of Collins’ house.

Then to see her at Sawyer House and not be able to hold her, it would be torture. So as much as I’ve grown to love the place and Gail, the people around, even the callers, I had to leave. My plans were not completely formed. I only know that I’ll still be around the O.C. area, but working a real job, hopefully be able to attend local college and build my academic records up so I could attend UC Irvine.

I was early for the meeting and went to the table where I was to hand over the necklace. I fingered the necklace again, bringing it to my nose to smell it. It smelled like her, like her jasmine and orange blossom scent that she wore that day we shot the video. Instantly my mouth watered, and my dick hardened. This necklace was the only connection I had to her. My only souvenir of the incredible time we spent together.

I quickly put the necklace back into the pouch and into my backpack. Then I walked out.

Screw whoever is coming to pick up the necklace…some mysterious women’s voice that said all my debts would be forgotten if I provide the necklace Collins McGregor gave Samantha Sullivan. And if I don’t, my rap sheet would be back out there for review.

I bumped into a beautiful older woman with long dark hair, hazel eyes, and a killer body dressed in a designer jumpsuit on my way out of the coffee shop. She looked so out of place there that I immediately realized she was the woman I was supposed to meet.

She looked familiar, as though I’ve seen her before, like she resembled someone I knew. She gave me a quick once over before heading to the table we were supposed to meet. My heart was racing, and I knew I’d better get out of the coffee shop before she recognized me.

My heart was racing. Shit. I just bumped into one of the most predatory elements on the streets…someone even criminals were in awe of…Judge Colleen Seevers. And she wanted the necklace I now held in my hot sweaty palms.

With a necklace worth millions, no doubt she would not just let me walk. I needed help, and I needed it soon. Unfortunately, the only person whom I could trust, whom I know would drop everything to help me is the owner of this necklace, and I wasn’t too sure how she would react to me coming back.

Kailin Gow was a peer counselor at the Women’s Center during her undergraduate years. She produced and hosted a women’s issues radio show and ran workshops and seminars in the community for women covering women’s issues including self-esteem, sexuality, identity, and gender roles. She was an intern at Juvenile Court, working for the public defenders with teen charges. As an undergraduate at UC Irvine, she was also teacher’s assistant in Criminology and Constitutional Law.

Never thinking she would be interested in the topic, she took her human sexuality class in college, and aced it, being voted by her group as the girl most of the classmates wanted to be stranded with on an island. She’d like to think it was because she knew so much about the subject, of course, not just because the college class was made up of mostly men.

Kailin Gow today is the author of several books for women, New Adults, and Young Adults. She divides her time living in the OC, Las Vegas, Dallas, and London, England with her Alpha husband and her Bad Ass in Training little girl.
