I slip out of my bedroom and head towards the stairs. I can’t risk using my Astralling power to take me to Delinda’s room. It will be investigated immediately this late at night, seeing as no one has reported Her in need of assistance.
As I turn the corner, I see Rexus, that smug fucker, talking in low tones with another Dragon I can’t stand the sight of.
“…her mother is here. It’s time,” Rexus says confidently.
My heart sinks. I know exactly what he is talking about. Dracul has brought Aefre here to finalize the details for Delinda’s marriage. By the sounds of it, Rexus thinks he has chance of being on the short-list. I hope to fuck that he isn’t. I don’t think that I could bear it, if I knew he was in her bed every night, and I certainly can’t entertain the thought of their Dragons mating. It hurts too much.
I turn back around with a sigh. I won’t get Delinda on her own for long enough to have a conversation with her about this with her mother here. Aefre hates me because I have been assigned to her daughter, but even more than that, she thinks I abandoned her. If only she knew that it was Remiel who made me leave her. Maybe then she would let up on Delinda about me? I know it is a source of consternation for Delly. She craves her mother’s approval, but I am a sore spot. One that they can’t agree on, and probably never will.
I push open the door to my bedroom and flop down, fully clothed. I will try to get Delinda on her own tomorrow, and, if I can keep my hands off her for long enough, explain to her again that the Emperor wouldn’t think twice to ending me if he learns that I took her innocence and so much more.
