by Masculine Profiles

The place is cheap, but I only stopped for a few minutes at the bus station. I’d imagine a playboy to have high exotic value here. Again, not recommended unless you need a cheap spot to work for a few days. Sure, you might be able to bag a girl or two, but I’m not sure it’d be worth it.

  Boquete

Boquete is a small mountain town located in northern Panama, a few hours from Bocas del Toro. If you’re backpacking through Panama, I’d highly recommend the place. The small town has a good vibe to it and is full of retired American expats. It’s laid back and not necessarily a place to party, although I did meet a couple travelers who said they had a great night out at some of the bars in Boquete.

However, most people go to Boquete to enjoy nature. Waterfall hikes, natural hot springs, coffee plantation tours and scooter riding through the mountains are all fun activities to enjoy in while here. I wouldn’t expect to get laid in Boquete. The locals chicks here are almost non-existent and backpackers are sporadic, as there’s not really a party hostel here.

Unless you’re against hostels, I found Hostal Mamallena to be fairly pleasant. It’s a bit pricey, but almost all backpackers stay there while in Boquete. There are some nice boutique hotels in Boquete, but they are not cheap.

  Santa Catalina

The one place I wished I had gone to while in Panama is Santa Catalina. The small beach town on the Pacific coast is said to be one of the best surf spots in all of Central America. The town is about six hours away from Panama City. Un-crowded waves combined with low costs make Santa Catalina one of the best places to learn how to surf in the region. However, you won’t find much else in this surf town.

Nightlife is nearly non-existent and Wi-Fi is said to be spotty at best. There are no banks or ATM’s here, so make sure you bring cash. Unless you’re a surfer or want to learn to surf, you’ll want to avoid this town. Getting laid in Santa Catalina would ultimately come down to luck – if you found yourself in a hostel or hotel with a surfer chick, you may get some. However, I’d suspect the pickings to be slim to none.

I wished I had spent a week surfing here before I headed north to Bocas.

  My Experience in Panama

From a backpacking standpoint, Panama may not be the best city in Central America. There simply isn’t enough to do. However, the highlights here – Panama City and Bocas del Toro, make up for the lack of quantity places through quality.

If I could only pick one Central American country to visit, I’d have to pick Panama. The capital, Panama City, is the best city in the region. The beaches here are comparable to every country in Central America. Pricing wise, you can live here for a bit less than you can in Costa Rica.

My love life was lovely in Panama. I had made sweet love to seven girls during my time in Panama. I also made out with countless others along with getting a BJ with a condom on from a Salvadorian girl. The condom BJ was an interesting experience, to say the least.

My quality in Panama was probably the highest overall throughout my trip in Central America. I was quite pleased. White men with blondish hair will be exotic here. Black guys also seem to do well here. However, on average Panamanian girls are slightly less attractive than girls from other countries in the region. Don’t get me wrong – they can be gorgeous, but there are just not as many of them as in Costa Rica or El Salvador.

  Online Dating Sites to use

While not being repetitive, online dating is great in Panama City. Outside the capital, I doubt you’ll find much. While in Panama, you should use:

  Tinder

  OkCupid

  Plenty of Fish

  Latin American Cupid

  Badoo

You’ll really only be utilizing online dating while in Panama City, and maybe David. The rest of the country you’ll simply be wasting your time trying to muddle through 3-4 prospects. Start with Tinder and work your way through all the others listed above. You’ll find a decent amount of girls online in PTY. Also, don’t forget to check out Badoo. I forgot about the site in Panama City, but some brief reconnaissance tells me Badoo could be all right in the capital.

  Recommended Itinerary – Panama

Panama was my favorite country in all of Central America, so I may be a bit biased. I think you could spend a lot of time in Panama if you enjoyed the vibe of Panama City. If you don’t like PTY, there’s really not much to do in Panama. If you enjoy the capital, you could spend a month or three in Panama. If you didn’t like PTY, you’ll be able to breeze through the country in a week or two.

Panama City and Bocas del Toro were detailed in this guide. David, Boquete and Santa Catalina were also discussed here. While other countries may have numerous attractions, Panama only has a few. You could visit numerous different beaches in the country, but you’d be wasting your time if girls were of interest to you. Colon and Santiago are cities in Panama worth checking out if you fall in love with the country, but I wouldn’t recommend them to the novice playboy looking for love while backpacking around.

  Recommended Time in Each Place

  Panama City:

  One week to three months.

Being the nicest city in all of Central America, you could stay in Panama City for months at a time and still be content. Some of the best nightlife in the region, cute girls and beaches within a 45 minute drive away – PTY is a great spot.

If you’re backpacking around, I suggest you spend at least a week here. I’d stay from a Thursday to the following one. Go out Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Then run dates from your night game and online dating efforts during the week. You’ll get the flag. If you’re a location independent type, you can easily spend a month or three in Panama City. You can date pretty girls here if you’re willing to put in the effort.

  Bocas del Toro:

  Three days to one week.

Bocas is by far Panama’s best party town on the beach. You you’re traveling the region; you’d be missing out by skipping these islands. I had some of my best times here and I didn’t even do well with the ladies. If you’re backpacking around, spend three days to a week here. Party and relax at the beach. Wi-Fi can be spotty, but I was able to find some. If you’re here in high season, you’ll find chicks.

  David:

  One day to one week.

David didn’t really do much for me, so I only passed through. However, I could see the value in stopping here to up your exotic value. Stay a night or two here if you have pipelined a few chicks online before arriving. If you stay a week, you better have a project to complete or you’ll get bored.

  Boquete:

  Three days to one week.

Boquete is a great place to stay for a few days. Relax and unwind in the mountains. Breathe in the fresh mountain air and take a tour of the waterfalls. Once you’re ready for girls, beaches and partying again – get out of here.

  Santa Catalina:

  Zero days to one week.

Unless you like to surf, I’d skip here completely. That being said, if you’re the surfing type then I’d say this small town is not a place you’d want to skip. I’d either skip here completely or stay for a week at a surf camp. The trek is long enough to not warrant a few day excursions. Unless you get lucky, you won’t be bagging any beauties here. This town may be a good “bringing sand to the beach” candidate if you plan to stay a week.
