Although he certainly wouldn’t turn down the opportunity to make love to her as many times as she wanted.

Their conversations made him think, her laughter made him smile, and just thinking about the sex made him hard.

Glancing at his watch, he wondered how soon he could leave and go home. Striding from the office, he saw the lunch staff was in full-swing and then made his way back to the kitchen where Charles’s assistant manager Dave was taking inventory to place an order with their produce supplier. Rather than bother him, he checked the schedule that was posted near the door to the kitchen and saw they were actually overstaffed tonight.

Was that necessary? Was there a large party coming in or something he didn’t know about? Not wanting to waste any time, he walked over to Dave and smiled.

“Hey, Logan. What can I do for you?” The man was easily twice as old as him and took his job seriously. It was admirable, but sometimes he wished the guy would lighten up a little.

“I noticed we’re overstaffed tonight. Is that the norm?”

“We got a call earlier for a large dinner group so I wanted to make sure we had enough servers on hand to handle it. I hope that’s all right.”

Nodding, Logan said, “It’s fine. I was just curious.” He paused and considered the best way to say what he had to say. “Actually, I was thinking of cutting out a little early, but only if you don’t need me here.”

Dave seemed to visibly relax. “I don’t see a problem with that. You’ve been here almost every day from open to close so you deserve a night off. Plus, you are the boss.” He offered a small smile. “And don’t worry, we’ve got it all under control. We’ve got some of our best servers on tonight.”

“I appreciate it, Dave.” Looking around the kitchen, he said, “Then I think I’m going to grab some of the bisque and head out.” He yawned and silently cursed himself. With a nervous laugh, he said, “I had meant to grab some coffee, but maybe I just need to go home and sleep for a little while.”

“Tell you what, you go finish up what you need to do and I’ll have the chef put together a dinner bag for you that includes the bisque and some of tonight’s special.”

  “What’s the special?”

“Sea scallops with brown butter served with risotto and fresh asparagus. I tasted some earlier and it’s fantastic.”

Before he could change his mind, Logan said, “Ask him to make enough for two and I’ll be back in a few minutes.” He turned to leave the kitchen, but looked back at Dave. “And thanks, Dave!”

Back in the office, he checked his emails and made sure he hadn’t forgotten anything. Then he grabbed his phone and quickly typed out a text to Piper.

Logan: Hey, beautiful. You free for dinner?

Less than a minute later, Piper responded.

Piper: As a matter of fact, I am. Dad’s going out with his girlfriend again and I was just planning on making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches because I’m still tired.
