Don't Want To Lose You Page 9

by Dawn Martens

Out of breath, she wheezes out, “Sorry I’m late, but I went to like, ten different stores and even drove to Calgary to find the perfect one.” She pulls out the little box and shows me.

  “It’s stunning,” I tell her.

“Right! And it’s not a simple diamond either, it’s her birthstone— Opal, for October. While I was there, I got the matching wedding band and matching ring for you as well.”

I smile at her as I close the boxes back up. “Thank you, Lilly, really. These are perfect.”

  “When are you asking her?”

“Tonight, after I tell her I love her. I know what you’re like, you can’t keep a secret,” I say, teasing her.

“Dude, I so can keep a secret. I kept Eden’s for years,” she says, reminding me of the time Eden took off years ago and hid the fact that she had Jasper’s children.

“Yeah, but since then you blab.”

  She sighs. “That’s true.”

“Don’t try to contact Trixie for a few days, tell Eden she won’t be coming into work either. We won’t be leaving my house for the weekend.”

“Holy shit, that’s hot, you guys gonna make babies?”

I’ve been inside of Trixie bare every single time, and neither one of us have brought up birth control, so it wouldn’t surprise me if she was already pregnant. “That’s the plan.” I send Lilly a wink and leave the station.

I arrive home and see that Trixie is already there. Jogging into the house, I call out, “Trixie, where are you?”

  “In the bathroom.”

I walk into the bathroom and see her hunched over the toilet. “Shit, are you okay?”

“I think I ate something that didn’t agree with me. I wasn’t supposed to be off for another few hours, but came home maybe ten minutes into my shift.”

“Shit, let me get you a cloth.” I help her wash her face and flush the toilet. “Feeling better?”

“Surprisingly, yeah. Must have just needed to get whatever that was out of me.”

I kiss her forehead. “Brush your teeth, then meet me in our room.”

I get everything set up as I wait for her, putting away the wedding bands, leaving out the engagement ring. I toss a few flower petals on the bed and light a few candles. As she steps into the room her eyes water.

  “What’s going on?”

“Trixie, it’s only been forty-four days, but who gives a shit. I love you. And we will get married in three weeks, right here in our backyard.”

“I love you too, Preston!” she cries, leaping into my arms. She pulls back and glares at me. “Wait, you didn’t ask me to marry you.”

“Damn right I didn’t. I’m not asking, I’m telling. Three weeks. Married. You and me.” I grin at her, kissing her softly. “First things first though, you have to meet my parents.” Her face pales, and I know she must be thinking about her awful in-laws she had with Chris. But my folks are different. They’ve been married since they were eighteen and are more in love now than they were before. And I just know they will love Trixie.

“You’re lucky I love you, Preston Andrew Thrane, otherwise I would kick your ass.”

“Babe, I’d love to see you try.”

She growls in my face. “Enough talking, please fuck me.”

“With pleasure,” I say, tossing her onto our bed.

  Epilogue 1

  Chris

I never thought I’d end up here, a life without Trixie, but I did. The move to Surrey is what helped. I had support here, family here. I stayed with my grandmother the first few months before using the money from selling my house in Airdrie to buy a place for Lita and me.

Allan, Jess, and their kids all moved out here a few months after I did.

After moving, I saw no reason to keep tabs on what Trixie was up to, but I did hear it through the grapevine, also known as my mother, that Trixie and Preston got married and had a whole brood of children.

I’m happy for her, she deserves all she got.

I still love her, care for her, but not in the way I should have when she was mine.

My mom tried to throw a party for me once she learned my divorce was final, but I didn’t let her. Hell, I’ve officially cut her out of my life altogether. Sending her and my dad Christmas cards only.

A year after I moved, I got a phone call to let me know that Lacey was found dead. Apparently one of the men at the strip club she was working at got too rough and ended up snapping her neck. I say good riddance, but when Lita gets older, I’ll have to find a way to tell her about who her mom was, instead of just letting her figure it out for herself.

Speaking of Lita, she is growing up so much, she just turned twelve, and loves being a big sister to her three other siblings.

I met my new wife at work. She was a customer that brought her SUV in for some work, and we ended up talking and I asked her out. Six years later, we have three children of our own together and she treats Lita like her own. Robyn knows all about my past with Trixie and what I did to her, but as she said, it’s the past.

I love her. The way I should have loved Trixie.

  Epilogue 2

  Trixie

“Johnathon Timothy, get your ass down here now!” I shout up the stairs at my oldest son. Johnny was our surprise child. Preston and I never once thought about birth control when we got together all those years ago. We apparently conceived him on our first night together.

Our wedding was huge, completely different to my first wedding. Half the town showed up, all the Angels Warriors and their women, my entire family, and all of Preston’s. For once I have the in-laws I wish I had the first time around. They loved me as much as I loved them.

I think that was my favorite part about divorcing Chris, I never again heard from his nasty mother.

Now here I am, yelling at one child, while my other four kids tug at me. I swear I’m about to bring out a can of whoop ass on these heathens.

“Laney, stop untying my shoes. Tommy, stop chewing on the cat’s toy and for the love of god, Johnny, get down here now, we’re going to be late.” My yelling startles the twins in my arms. “Sorry, Willow and Angela, but Johnny is being a butthead right now.”

“Sorry mom, I couldn’t find my math book.”

Getting everyone to school and daycare in the mornings is rough, I swear we’re late every damn day. But honestly, I wouldn’t change it for the world. Preston wants to try for one more child, but I don’t know. I get he wanted to make up for the baby girl I lost, but I have all the love and children I need right now.

I never went back to work once I started popping out the kids, and I think Preston would have had a fit if I had. He likes me home, likes that I’m able to meet him at his work for lunch. But mostly I think he likes it that at any time while he’s on patrol, he can come home for a quickie.

After dropping the Johnny and Laney off to school, Tommy off to preschool, and the twins to Moira at the daycare, I drive to the police station.

“Hey, Trix,” a few officers say as I walk in. I wave them all off and head straight to Preston’s office. I don’t bother knocking. As I step in, I realize he’s on the phone, his eyes narrow on me as I start to lock his door and close his blinds. The second I start stripping out of my clothes, he quickly hangs up.

“What’s all this for?” he asks, coming around his desk, quickly taking his uniform off.

“Just felt horny and needed some attention,” I tell him and I sit on the edge of his desk.

He smirks at me. “Fuck, I love you, woman,” he says as he drops to his knees and starts feasting on my pussy.

I didn’t come back to town planning on finding someone else to love, but I did, and it was the best thing I’ve ever done in my life.
