“Yeah?” I cock my eyebrow. “You think it’s okay?”
“Of course. And I have to admit I’m falling for London.” He smirks.
“I knew it! I saw the way you look at her.” I smack him on the back. “She’s a good girl, too. At least you’re not older than her.” The age difference between Roe and me kind of bothers me a little, but I need to let it go. She clearly doesn’t care, so neither should I.
“Ha, yeah, I forgot you’re much older than us.”
“Ah, you got jokes.” I pop open a bottle of water. “I never dated anyone younger than me, and my late wife and I were the same age. Other than her, I really never dated. Just hookups.”
“Trust me, I know all about your hookups. I still can’t believe you banged that Feisal, or Lisle, whatever her name was. You remember that night we went to Arnold’s for the tailgate party?”
“Hell, I don’t even remember her name.” I know that’s sad, but I really have no idea who the fuck it was.
“I figured as much. I can’t remember it, but I do recall that she was a beast.” He laughs, and I look confused. “Dude, she was manly looking. She was built like a fucking dude, and you took her in the bathroom and came out zipping your pants.”
“We must be thinking about two different people. I would never hook up with someone who looked like a man.”
“Yeah, yeah… Well, I’m glad you settled down again. You know she would be proud of you,” he says, and I know he’s referring to Sherrie.
“I know. Thanks,” I say, then hear commotion in the background. “Shit, I think a call just came in. We better go check it out.”
“Come on, men, huge fire on Elliott and Sawmill. School bus,” Miler says, running to the truck.
“Shit. Let’s go.” I jump up and grab my jacket.
Abbott, Miler, and I load into the fire truck, with Abbott driving while I sit shotgun. As he rushes down the street, I can see the smoke a few miles away.
Hell, I hope there wasn’t anyone on the bus.
When we approach, I see cars, and people lining the streets. The flames and smoke are out of control. I hear screams, see children lying on the ground.
“Come on, there’re children still on the bus. Looks like it collided with that SUV,” Miler says, jumping from the truck.
“We’ll need medics too,” Abbott calls out.
“I’m on it.” I grab the bag next to me and rush to the kids lying on the ground. I see there are at least ten, if not more. “Sir, do you know how many more kids are on the bus?” I ask the driver, who is sitting on the sidewalk.
“No, a few. I tried to get them, but then the flames—” he starts coughing “—the flames were horrific. I couldn’t get them.”
“Thanks, man, look, you need some oxygen,” I say, placing the mask on his face. “Hold this here.” I need to call for our medic backups so I can help with the fire.
Grabbing my walkie, I say, “This is Harris with Unit 83 South House. We’re on scene at Elliott and need medic backup. I’m the only firefighter/medic here, and I need to help with the fire.”
“Copy, medics from North on the way. South is all backed up. Are there fatalities?”
“Not sure yet. I just need help. Now,” I reply.
“Copy, sir. They’re on the way.”
“Thanks!” I stash my walkie and make my way to the children; they’re all pretty banged up. I see Matt and London exiting their ambulance.
Thank God, there’s help.
“How was your day?” Roe asks, wrapping her arms around me.
“Long, and sad. We lost a few kids today. There was a bus accident. We were so backed up they sent the medics from your engine house.” I say kissing the top if her head.
“Yeah, London said she and Matt were doing a call for your house. That’s awful. I hate losing patients, but when it’s children, it’s even worse.” She snuggles closer to me. “I missed you.”
“I know it is heartbreaking. I missed you, more.” I say kissing her tenderly.
“I made you dinner, even cleaned out the spare bedrooms. There wasn’t much in there, but they were pretty cluttered,” Roe says as she makes her way into our small kitchen.
“You didn’t have to do that. I could have put some stuff in storage if there wasn’t room.” I say as I grab a water from the fridge.
“I wanted to. I want your stuff here, silly. Besides, there’s plenty of room. This is a three-bedroom house. I thought we can make one of the rooms a guest room for when my dad comes to visit.” She winks.
I love that she is close with her dad and is planning for him to visit often. “I like that idea. So, what’s for dinner? I’m starved.” I wash my hands and sit down at the table.
“It’s a recipe I got from Pinterest—baked chicken, with red potatoes and green beans. I also made some crusty rolls.”
“That sounds amazing, babe.” I watch as she brings the platter to the table. “It looks delish.” The smell has my mouth watering.
“Thank you, I hope you like it. I pinned a bunch of recipes. I want to start cooking for you.”
“I like that idea. So, you ready to meet my parents? My mom called me this morning, and she wants to do a girls’ day with you and Kathy. I told her I would give you her number. She likes to text, so you don’t even have to call.”
“I’m ready. I love you and Kathy, and I’m sure I’ll love them, too. I would really like that. I think we’ll get along just fine.” She scoops food onto both of our plates then sets a beer in front of me.
“Baby, I could have done that,” I tell her.
“No worries. You’ve worked all day, and I’ve just been lounging. I caught up on last week’s General Hospital and played online all day, so I can serve my man dinner.” She kisses me. “I love you, Kole.”
“Thank you. I love you too,” I say as she takes the chair next to me. “Will you run me a bubble bath too?” I tease.
“Of course, but only if I can join you,” she retorts.
“Indeed.” I raise my eyebrows. “You working tomorrow?”
“No. I actually have a doctor’s appointment.” I look at her confused. “Nothing serious.”
“Okay, you want me to go with you?” I hate that she’ll be going alone.
“No, it’s nothing. It’s just the GYN. It’s time for my birth control shot. I get it every three months.”
“Gotcha. Well, I can go with you. Tomorrow’s my short day.”
“If you want. I was thinking of buying some new curtains for the spare rooms. Do you want to put your bed in one of the rooms, or mine?”
“Up to you, babe. I like both of our beds. Mine’s a little bigger, though.”
“Yeah, I was hoping you would say you wanted yours in our room.” She laughs. “I love your bed.”
“Then it’ll be in our room.”
“Good. Man, this was scrumptious. I wasn’t sure how it would taste, but I nailed it.” She rubs her stomach. “Oh, and I made dessert too.”
“Wow, you’re a regular Betty Crocker today,” I tease. “What’s for dessert?”
“Strawberry cheesecake.” She makes her way to the fridge and brings back the biggest cheesecake I’ve ever seen.
“Holy shit, woman. That looks great.”
“I’ve wanted to eat it all day, but I wanted to wait for you,” she admits, slicing two pieces and placing them on saucers.
Taking a bite, I practically moan. “So good. Do you think you can make one to take to my parents this weekend?”
“Sure. This was the first one I’d tried, so hopefully theirs will be just as good.”
“I’m sure it will. Damn, you outdid yourself. I’m going to sleep like a baby.”
“Me too. I missed you so much today. I’ll start the bath and clean all this up later.”
“You start the bath, and I’ll load the dishwasher.”
“No, you don’t, mister. Get in the bathroom. I’ll do that after,” she says, pushing me toward the bathroom.
&n
bsp; “Okay, if you insist,” I tease. As we walk toward the bathroom, I start stripping out of my clothes. As she starts the water for the bath. “I showered at the firehouse, but being in a bubble bath with you has been on my mind all day.”
“You’re always on my mind,” she tells me as she pulls her shirt over her head. “I think I could go for some tub sex.” She slides out of her sweatpants. “Hot, steamy, bubbly tub sex.”
Hello, hard cock. I’m glad I already discarded my pants. “Is that so? I think I can manage to help with you that.”
“I thought you would.” She bites her lip. “But first, I need to taste you.” She drops to her knees, grabbing my length in her hand. “So hard, and ready for me,” she purrs. Her tongue glides over the head of my cock, her other hand cupping my sac.
“Damn, babe. That feels so good.” I wrap my hands in her hair. She eases up before taking all of me, working me with her other hand as she moves up and down my shaft. “Come up here. I need to be inside you,” I say, sliding her up my body.
“I want to ride you in the water,” she whispers.
“Hell, babe, you can ride me wherever you want.” I climb into the warm sudsy water, the suds covering my lower half. My cock is still rock-hard. “Slide on, sweetheart,” I say as I reach for her. She straddles me and eases down on my cock, water splashing everywhere.
“Feels so good,” she breathes. “I love the way you feel inside me. My pussy is always ready for you, always so wet for you.” Her head rolls back. “Yes,” she moans as I take a nipple between my teeth. I nibble a few times before moving my mouth up her neck. Her body is hot to the touch, practically on fire. She places her hands on my shoulders and pulls herself up. Looking into my eyes, she catches my mouth with hers, then eases her way back down, taking every inch of my cock. “Fuck!” she cries out.
“Fucking hell, babe.” I grab her hips to slow her down; I’m about to come undone, and her movements are going to make me come real fast. “I need you to move slowly. I’m not ready to come; I want to make love to you a little longer.” Her eyes fling open, and I see the tears pooling in her lids. “You okay?” I wrap her in my arms tighter.
“Yes, I’m more than okay. I love you so much. Making love to you is amazing.” Her tears spill down her cheek. “Thank you for loving me.”
“No thanks needed. I never thought I’d be happy again until you walked into my life.” I grip her hips tighter and start pounding into her. “I can’t hold off, Roe. Let go, come with me,” I instruct her.
“Yes!” she cries out as my teeth sink into her chest.
“Fuck!” I roar. “Best fucking pussy ever. And it’s mine,” I growl.
“Always,” she says before kissing me. “We have bubbles everywhere; it’s our new thing, I guess. When we had tub sex at your house, there were bubbles galore.”
“I like you all bubbly,” I tease.
“Good, ‘cause I like you all sudsy too.” She kisses me again, and just like that I’m hard and ready for round two.
I hate the doctor’s office. I come every three months for my birth control shot, and every single time, I swear I have to wait hours just to get the damn thing. No matter what time my appointment is, they’re always running behind. I stopped off and grabbed a large bottle of water to wash my coffee down, knowing I’ll have to give a urine sample. I wait patiently for them to call my name, having already left said sample in the bathroom.
“Taylor?” a short blonde lady calls from the doorway. I stand and smile, walking over to her. “I’m Liz, and I’ll be getting you ready. We’ll start with your weight.” I step onto the scale, knowing my weight is always the same. But I see I’ve gained a few pounds. Damn Kole and his Timhorton’s obsession.
“Okay, we’re going into room four here,” she says, and I head inside and set my things in the chair. “You’ll have to get undressed from the waist down. Dr. Hahn will be in shortly.”
“You aren’t giving me my shot?” I ask, confused. I normally only see the nurse when I’m here.
“The doctor will be in shortly, sweetie. Just get undressed from the waist down,” she repeats before closing the door. I slide my jeans down my thighs, then my underwear, draping the little gown over my legs. This is so weird.
“All ready?” Dr. Hahn asks from the door.
“Yes,” I whisper.
“Hi, Rosealy. Good to see you,” she greets, and I smile. “Okay, I’m sure you’re a bit confused as to why you’re seeing me instead of getting your injection.”
“Yes, very,” I admit.
“As you know, birth control isn’t always 100% accurate. We ran your HCG test—twice, actually—and each time, it’s showed that you’re expecting.”
“Pardon? Expecting what?” I say nervously. I know what she’s talking about, but I don’t want to believe it.
She laughs. “It means you’re pregnant, Miss Taylor.”
“Excuse me? Are you sure it was my test?” I question.
“Yes, we’re sure. I’m going to perform an exam, and also an ultrasound.”
“Oh,” I whisper.
I’m having a baby. I was on birth control, so we didn’t use protection. Gah. I love babies, but does Kole? Shit, shit, shit. What if he doesn’t want a baby?
Doesn’t want a baby with me?
“Okay, Miss Taylor, I’m going to perform a pelvic exam. My hands may be a little cold, so I apologize in advance.” I feel her insert her fingers, and she presses down. “Okay, now I’ll perform an ultrasound. Do you remember when you had your last menstrual cycle?”
“No, it was a few months ago. I’m never regular, though,” I say shyly.
“Okay, this jelly will be a little cold. Just lie back and we’ll be done soon,” she explains, and I hear a little thump, thump. “That’s your baby’s heartbeat. Looks like your measuring eight weeks.” She smiles. Yep, sounds about right, but I didn’t think I would get pregnant while on the shot.
“Okay, dear, go ahead and get dressed. I’ll print some images for you. You’ll need to start prenatal vitamins soon. I’ll send a prescription to your pharmacy. Do you have any questions?”
“I need to wrap my head around this. I’m honestly not sure at the moment,” I admit.
“That’s understandable. Please call if you have any questions or concerns.”
“Thank you,” I whisper. She exits the room, and I sit up, grabbing my clothes then search for my phone. I need to text Kole.
Me: You at the firehouse?
Kole: Yes, it’s been slow. How did your appointment go?
Me: Good. I think I’ll bring you lunch. Is that okay?
Kole: Of course. See you soon.
Me: Okay, love you.
Kole: Love you, too.
Grabbing my things, I leave the room and make my way to reception desk to schedule my four-week checkup. She informs me they will then do another ultrasound. I make it to my car before breaking down, all the ‘what if’s’ playing over in my head.
I go through the drive-thru at Taco Bell and grab lunch. I also get extra tacos for the firehouse. It’s always good when someone brings food; I know our house loves it.
Fuck…the fire exam. I can’t be a firefighter while I’m pregnant. Damnit!
Pulling into the parking lot, I slide the bags of food in a box they gave me in the drive-thru, making sure I have the ultrasound pictures in my purse. I hope he isn’t mad. I love babies, and I know I’ll be a good mom, but…will he be okay with a baby?
I walk up to the doors and see Kole and Abbott as I enter the building.
“Hey, babe.” Kole kisses me. “You brought everyone food?” He smiles when I nod. “You’re so good to me.”
“I know our house loves when there’s free food, so I wanted to bring some for your crew,” I say, kissing him again. “Is there somewhere we can talk? I got you a special lunch.” I hold the bag up, along with the Mt. Dew.
“Sure, we can go in here.” He motions toward the door then sets the box of food on the ta
ble, telling Abbott it’s there for everyone. Once inside, he closes the door. “Everything okay?”
“Yeah, I think it will be. I wanted to bring you lunch, but I also wanted to show you something.” I pull the printouts from my purse. “I’m not sure how you’ll feel or how it happened, considering I had my shot, but…” I hand him the images with our baby on it.
“Wait. We’re having a baby?” he says, tears filling his eyes. I nod, my own tears spilling down my cheek. “That’s great, babe! How far along?”
“She said about eight weeks. I wasn’t sure how you’d feel about it. You’re not mad?”
“Hell no, I’m happy, babe. This is great. I’m not getting any younger,” he jokes.
“I’m so glad. I was so worried. Looks like my shot, couldn’t beat your little swimmers,” I tease.
“Baby, ain’t nothing little about me.” He laughs. “I love you.”
“Truth.” I grin. “I love you too.”
“You need to quit your job,” he blurts.
“What? I mean, I know I can’t be a firefighter, but why quit as a paramedic?”
“I don’t think you should work period. I have money, so I can support us,” he says, biting into his nachos.
“Are you sure? I mean, the house is paid for, and I have some money in savings, but I couldn’t let you pay for everything.”
“You’re my girl, Roe, and you’re having my baby. I’ll take care of you.” He wipes his face. “Always, you and our children.”
“Thank you,” I whisper. I’ve never asked where his money comes from, but I know he’s fairly wealthy. “Are you sure? I mean, like I said the house is paid for, and I have some money in savings, but I couldn’t let you pay for everything. I mean, I know a firefighter’s salary.”
“Baby, don’t worry. I work just to work. My parents always taught me how to save, and I have more than enough put aside, so you don’t have to work.”
“The house is paid off, and so is your car, right?” I nod. “Well, so is my truck.”
“But what about diapers, formula, and food?”
