His mouth moves sinfully, licking and sucking all the right places until my legs begin to shake. Just as I’m about to reach my climax, he stops and smirks. I whine lowly and glare at him.
“What are you doing?”
“Delayed gratification.”
I push myself up and kiss him, tasting myself on his lips. Pulling his shirt over his head, I slide my hands down his torso, feeling the definition. He shivers at the contact. I use his momentary weakness to my advantage and flip us around so he’s lying beneath me.
While sucking a hickey into his waistline, I undo his belt. He lifts his hips, shimmying his pants and boxers down. His hard cock stands tall as soon as it springs free. I wrap my hand around it, always amazed by its massive size. He tries to steady his breathing while I kitten lick the top.
“Kayleigh.” He groans.
It’s my turn to smirk. “Now who’s begging?”
After I run my tongue up the underside of his dick, I slip the tip into my mouth. He takes a deep breath as I bob my head up and down, taking him deeper every time. When he can’t seem to stay still, I get an overwhelming urge to be bold. Blindly, I grab his hand and move it to the back of my head. He hesitates for a second, then understands what I’m telling him to do.
He grips my hair and starts thrusting upward into my mouth. I gag slightly as he hits the back of my throat, and he lets out a shaky moan. When his motions start to become sloppy, I realize he’s close and pull myself off him.
“Why?” He whines. “Why would you give me that and then take it away?”
“Delayed gratification.” I repeat his own words back to him.
He growls, quickly grabbing me and turning us so he’s hovering above me. He lines himself up and pushes into me – giving me exactly what I’ve wanted this whole time. I moan loudly, dragging my fingernails down his back as he pounds into me. Animalistic sounds of pure pleasure fill the room as I tighten around him.
“That’s it baby.” He pants. “Feel me. Give into it.”
My orgasm starts to build while I meet him thrust for thrust. I dig my nails into his shoulder blades as the intensity becomes too much to handle. His pace begins to quicken and he pushes himself even deeper, hitting my g-spot every single time.
“Let go.”
Hearing his words, my body obeys immediately. I cum with a scream, quivering as it rips through me. A couple thrusts later and Holden is spilling inside me, shouting my name like a prayer. He rides out both of our highs before collapsing down on top of me – the two of us trying to catch our breath.
“You are an extraordinary woman.” He murmurs, lightly kissing my collarbone before pulling out of me and rolling over onto the bed.
AS MUCH AS I love when we have our apartment alone, it’s also just as great when it’s filled with our friends. With Holden leaving in a couple days, we decided to invite everyone over to hang out. However, he won’t let any of us call it a going away party – not that I mind. Every time I think about his flight to Boston, I feel like I’m going to be sick.
Skylar and Dawson are the last to arrive. They walk in the door looking perfectly tanned. I jump up excitedly. I haven’t seen them since the wedding.
“I missed you!” I yell, jumping into Sky’s waiting arms.
Dawson fakes a pout. “You were my friend first.”
Laughing softly, I give him a hug as well. “Shut up. You know I missed you, too.”
They sit on the couch and I return to my seat on Holden’s lap. He taps a beat on my thighs as we listen to Skylar gush about their honeymoon. They went on a cruise that sailed through the Caribbean. They stopped in Saint Thomas, Saint Lucia, and the Bahamas. They also spent a few days in Puerto Rico before and after the cruise. When they first told me their plans, I thought they were crazy to do it in the summer, but they look like they had the time of their lives.
Bree and I both become envious as we see how great Sky’s new license photo came out. With the tan from the honeymoon, and the happiness that radiates off her– it’s perfect. I look at the name and smile.
Skylar Valerie Leadley.
“Aw. You’re Mrs. Leadley.”
She cringes. “Yuck, don’t call me that. It makes me sound like I’m 45 or something.”
“I mean, you’re married so you may as well be.”
“Watch it. You’re next.”
Holden hums contently and squeezes my thigh. “Mrs. Rivers. I like the sound of that.”
I bite my lip. “Me too.”
Jo and Bree both pretend to gag. Caleb laughs at them before looking at me. “You ruined my best friend.”
“I thought I was your best friend.” Jason mocks offense.
He waves him off dismissively. “You’re both my best friends.”
“Wait.” I interrupt. “How did I ruin him?”
“He used to be the perfect wingman. Now he’s all settled down and mushy.”
Holden barks out a laugh. “Bro, it’s not being a wingman when I throw the girls I don’t want at you.”
Caleb chuckles and shrugs. “Eh. It got me laid.”
THE EIGHT OF US sit around the living room, drinking beer and talking about our summers. Classes start back up tomorrow, and we’re all dreading it. Jason and Caleb will be working toward their Masters, while the rest of us – sans Holden – are starting our junior year. I, however, am skipping class so I can spend the day with my fiancé before he leaves on Wednesday.
A couple hours into the night, Holden nudges me. Being as close as we are, I know exactly what he’s trying to say. I nod and sit up, looking at all our friends and smiling.
“We didn’t just invite you all here to hang out.” I confess.
Jason eyes us curiously. “You know I love you both, but I don’t think any of us are interested in an orgy.”
“Dude, gross.” Holden replies. “My sister’s here.”
I roll my eyes and chuckle. “We set a wedding date.”
“Really?!” The girls yell excitedly. “When?!”
“April 11th.” Holden answers, still happy I agreed to that.
Skylar’s eyebrows furrow. “Um, you mean next April, right?”
“Nope, this one.”
Her eyes widen and she laughs, looking at me. “Good luck with that, babes.”
“Well,” I begin. “I was hoping I’ll have help. We would like all of you to be in the wedding as our bridesmaids and groomsmen.”
Each one of them lights up, accepting immediately and standing to hug Holden and I. Dawson looks somewhat surprised that he’s included as well, but happy all the same. Once we sit back down, we start to talk about what we’re thinking for the wedding. When it comes out that the only thing I have planned is who’s in the wedding, Skylar rolls her eyes.
“Oh, honey. We have a lot of work to do.”
“Good.” I answer. “It’ll give me something to focus on while this ones off being a hotshot hockey player.” I nod toward Holden.
Suddenly, Caleb snickers to himself. “I just realized something.” We all look at him expectantly, and he turns to Bree. “Everyone in the bridal party is dating each other, except for us.”
We watch the two of them, laughing quietly to ourselves. I’m not entirely sure where he’s going with this, but it’s amusing. Holden puts his lips near my ear.
“I thought my sloppy seconds weren’t his thing.” He whispers.
I side-eye him. “Are you jealous?”
He chuckles as he shakes his head. “No, baby.”
Bree attempts to ignore Caleb’s observation, but when she looks up at him from her phone, he winks at her exaggeratedly. It’s clear he’s joking but she grabs the nearest couch pillow and throws it at him anyway.
“Never going to happen, Sutter.”
He feigns devastation. “What happened to all those nights we spent together under the stars?”
She rolls her eyes and smiles. “That was one night Caleb, and we were looking for a drunken Taylor.”
“You’
re breaking my fragile little heart.”
They continue to joke, while something else catches my attention. Jo and Jason are whispering about something, but it doesn’t look good. He goes to put his arm around her, but she shrugs it away. Something is off between them. I wonder what it is.
Chapter 13
Isit on the bed and watch as Holden carelessly tosses clothes into his suitcase. Rolling my eyes playfully, I wipe away my tears and start taking it all out. He turns around with more items and frowns.
“Baby, I love you, but making it hard for me to pack can’t keep me here.”
I ball up the shirt in my hand and throw it at him. “I’m folding it, you big doof. Pack everything like this and you’ll need to iron it all when you get there. Do you even know how to use an iron?”
His guilty expression is enough to tell me he doesn’t. “I’ve never really needed to learn. My mom did it for me, and then I lived in a fraternity. Now, I have you. I can always find someone else to do it.”
“Oh, I get it. So, you’re just with me for my basic living skills.”
He chuckles. “Damn. You caught me.”
I continue folding his clothes neatly as he comes up behind me and wraps his arms around my waist, resting his head on my shoulder. With him leaving tomorrow, I don’t know the next time I’ll feel him hold me like this. Just the thought of that alone makes me tear up again. One slips down my cheek and lands against his face.
“Hey.” He stops me, taking the shirt out of my hand and tossing it onto the bed. I turn around in his arms and snuggle into his chest. “Baby, don’t cry.”
A wet laugh leaves my mouth. “You’ve been telling me that all morning. I can’t help it.”
His fingers run through my hair and he kisses the top of my head. “Just say the words and I’ll give it all up.”
“No.” I sigh. “This is everything you’ve ever wanted.”
“You’re everything I’ve ever wanted.” He corrects.
I pull away and look up at him. “But so is this. You can have both. I want you to have both.”
He gives me a small smile. “Have I told you lately how much I love you?”
“Eh, you may have mentioned it.”
“Maybe I should just show you then.” He smirks, taking everything on the bed and pushing it onto the floor.
“I just folded all of that!”
“Then I better make this worth it.” Without another word, his mouth is on mine and he’s pushing me onto the bed.
LATER THAT DAY, WE’RE sitting on the couch, cuddled up together. Impractical Jokers is playing on TV, but we’re not paying much attention to it. We’re just spending as much time together as we possibly can. Just when our kiss starts to become heated again, the door opens and Jason walks in.
“Seriously?” Holden deadpans. “We get our own apartment, and you still walk in without knocking.”
Jason looks up from his phone and frowns – acting entirely unlike himself. Holden and I share a concerned look before turning back to him.
“What’s wrong?” I ask.
He runs his hand over his head and groans. “I don’t know. Jo broke up with me.”
“What?!” We both practically shout.
“Yeah.” He replies sadly. “I came over here to see if you guys knew why, but judging by that reaction, I take it you don’t.”
“We had no idea.” Holden tells him. “When did this happen?”
“After we left here last night. She said she needs to focus on school and shouldn’t have a boyfriend, but we dated all last year. It doesn’t make sense.”
I give him a sympathetic look. He’s clearly hurting, and I wish that I could take it away. Holden has the same expression on his face. I can only imagine how much he’s struggling between being there for one of his best friends, and supporting his sister’s decision.
“Maybe what you had just fizzled out.” I suggest.
He shakes his head. “I don’t think so. Not for me anyway.”
“You mean you’re not the slightest bit relieved to be single again?” Holden presses. “You never were the dating type.”
“No.” He answers adamantly. “I know she’s your sister, and this is awkward for you, but H, I’m in love with her.”
My breath hitches, and I sit there gaping. “D-did you tell her that?!”
“I was going to.” Jason focuses down at the floor. “I was going to take her to dinner this weekend and tell her, but then this happened.”
I sigh, hating how heartbroken he is right now. “Well listen, her and I are taking Holden to the airport tomorrow. I’ll talk to her on the way home, alright? See if I can get a better understanding of what’s going through her head.”
He smiles sadly at me. “Thanks, Kay.”
“No problem.”
Shortly after, he realizes that we’re trying to have some alone time and leaves – apologizing for interrupting. It’s strange to see, because Jason has never thought of himself as a burden. Jo must have really done some damage.
Holden and I spend the rest of the day and the entire night making love and not letting go of each other. We don’t end up falling asleep until close to four in the morning, despite having to be awake by nine for his flight – all the clothes meant for his suitcase still lie scattered across the bedroom floor.
THE MORNING IS A complete and total mess. Holden’s rushing around to finish packing, while I make him breakfast and fold the rest of the clothes, putting them neatly in his suitcase. When he’s finally done, he takes the oversized bear he won me over the summer and puts one of his hockey jerseys on it. Once it’s ‘dressed’, he places it on his side of the bed. As I walk into the room, the sight stops me in my tracks.
“What’s that?” I question, amused.
“It’s me.”
“Oh yeah?”
He grins widely. “Yup.”
I walk over to the bed and inspect the bear. It’s humorous how well the jersey fits on the ridiculously large stuffed animal. He even went as far as spraying it with his cologne.
“I’m going to cuddle with this thing every night.”
“Good. That was the point.”
AS WE GET TO the airport, Jo manages to walk fifteen feet in front of us the entire time. I’m not sure if she’s doing it intentionally - not wanting us to ask about Jason - or because Holden and I are walking slower than usual. Neither one of us want to get to the security checkpoint, because that’s where he needs to leave me.
“Are you going to let her drive back?” He asks.
I shrug. “It depends. If I’m an absolute mess, then yeah. If I can hold myself together until I get home, definitely not. Her driving scares me.”
He laughs softly. “Don’t tell her that. It pisses her off when I complain about her driving.”
“Noted.”
By the time we get to security, Holden only has 45 minutes to get to his terminal. Still, he doesn’t rush as he wraps his arms around me and pulls me in close. I inhale deeply, letting the smell of jasmine and honeysuckle infiltrate my senses. I don’t know how I’m going to get through spending so much time without him.
“Remember baby, we’ll take it one day at a time.” He whispers sadly. “I’m going to call and text you as much as physically possible. And if at any point you want me to quit, just say the words. You come first, Kayleigh. You will always come first.”
The tears stream down my face like a waterfall, making it hard for me to catch my breath. “I love you so much, and I am so proud of you. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me, and I’m sorry if I don’t tell you that as often as I should. We’re going to be okay, because neither of us are willing to let anything tear us apart.”
He places his forehead against mine. “I know what it’s like to lose you, babe. I will never let that happen again.”
“I know you won’t, and neither will I.”
We stand there for a moment, just relishing in the feeling of being in each other’s arms. Whe
n we don’t seem to be moving any time soon, Jo takes a step closer.
“I don’t mean to interrupt, but H, your flight is leaving in a half hour.”
The two of us whimper, and with one more squeeze, we let go. He gives his sister a quick hug, promising to let her know when he lands and telling her to do well in school – typical big brother stuff. When he’s done, he comes back to me.
“I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
“Every step of the way?”
“Not going anywhere.” I confirm.
With one last kiss, he uses his sleeve to wipe away his tears and grabs his suitcase. Jo and I stay until he gets through security. Once he’s done, he turns around and blows me another kiss. Josephine rubs my back comfortingly as I watch him walk away.
THE DRIVE HOME IS dangerously scary. When I say that Jo’s driving sucks, I mean its horrendous. She slams on the breaks for every red light, and tends to speed– especially being in Holden’s v8 engine car. When we finally get out of the heavy traffic, I decide to bring up the topic I’ve been hesitant to mention.
“So, I saw Jason yesterday.”
She visibly tenses. “Oh.”
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah.” Her voice is shaky, making it obvious she’s lying.
“Do you want to try that one again?”
She side-eyes me and then shrugs. “I’m fine. I broke up with him.”
Judging by her tone, I know I need to tread lightly. “So I’ve heard. He didn’t say why though.”
“I need to focus on school.”
I give her a knowing look, even though she’s intensely fixated on the road ahead of us – for the first time since she got behind the wheel might I add. “Jo, you two dated more than half of last year. You had no issue with school then.”
She frowns, but masks it quickly. “My classes are harder this year.”
“How would you know that? Your classes don’t start until tomorrow.”
Groaning loudly, she pulls the car over to the side of the road and puts it in park. “You’re a pain in my ass, you know that?” Her words are sharp but there is no venom in her tone. After a few seconds of silence, she sighs. “I didn’t want to break up with him, but I had to.”
