  Moradarn: Lord of Justice; the Oervan god of justice and military strength; symbolized by an Oervan longsword, sometimes depicted below a thirteen-pointed sun

  Naval District: District with the docks and barracks for the city’s navy

  Nobles’ Bridge: Bridge running from the Nobles’ District to the Gatehouse

  Nobles’ District: District where a number of wealthy landholders have estates and homes; home to a number of civil workers and servants of wealthy households

  Northkeep: A keep that stands on a mesa at the northernmost reach of the territory of Galavan’s Port, at the northern end of the Ravenspine Mountains; overlooks the Calisharn Plains and the northeastern corner of the Vashtik States; can also be used to refer to the town at the base of Northkeep

  Oervan: The people descended from the Empire of Lashkon, who all share a common language, history, and cultural identitiy; The term “Oervan” may also refer to the common language of the Oervan people or to their culture

  Oervan longsword: A one handed, long bladed sword suitable for fencing or fighting on the field of battle; typically Oervan longswords have blades that taper down much of their length, have a center of gravity close to the hilt, and have a point suited to piercing the gaps in armor; they usually range from 36 to 48 inches in length

  Oervan smallsword: A one handed, short bladed sword suitable for fencing and stabbing, as well as slashing against naked skin; Oervan smallswords have blades that taper down their entire length, a center of gravity at the hilt, and a very narrow point; they are typically between 24 to 36 inches in length

  Orevanthar: A nation off the eastern coast of the Farwater, comprised of a collection of seven major islands and a number of smaller minor islands; separated from the continent by the Bay of Lashkon; the primary homeland of the Oervan people ever since the fall of the Empire of Lashkon; the mother homeland of both Shaelwyn and Galavan’s Port

  Platinum suns: A heavy platinum coin minted by the city; usually only used in large trade exchanges and infrequently circulated

  Primrose Estate: An estate to the east of Weddleton, known for its excellent wines

  Ravenspine Mountains: The mountain range to the west of the territory of Galavan’s Port; forms the border between Galavan’s Port and the Vashtik States; largely lawless in places and occasionally the source and grounds of conflict between its neighbors; the source of the Alewine River

  The Regulars: The soldiers of Galavan’s Port; the Regulars are grouped in five Divisions, and tasked with maintaining military order in the lands governed by Galavan’s Port

  The Rents: Low class area of the Housing District, bordering the outer curtain wall of the city

  The River Crae: The river running south into the city, through the Coscan and Arena Districts

  River Road: The road running down the length of the Nobles’ District, following the banks of the Alewine River; comprised of a high road, which contours the hills and bluffs along the banks, and a low road, which runs at a level just above the river and is prone to flooding; commoners are welcome to use the low road even at times during which they are not permitted in the district

  Riverbend: Large town outside of the city of Galavan’s Port, on the inside of a bend in the Alewine River; home of a number of houses of wealthy citizens who also maintain homes within the city

  Setoth: Lord of Lies; Oervan god of deceit and treachery; symbolized by a black field

  Seventh Street Ogres: Raelyn’s childhood gang

  Shacktown: Slums to the north of the city, home to a number of people that can’t afford to live in the city

  Silver tares: A small silver coin; the primary monetary unit of Galavan’s Port

  The Siren’s Song: Genevar’s songhouse; front for Genevar’s brothel

  Slialne: A Slovani word that literally translates to “old friend”, but that carries the connotation of a deep trust and brotherhood

  Slovani: The people descended from the Slovani Empire, the only remaining nation of which is now Mitigol; may also refer to the language or culture of the Slovani people

  Slovani Quarter: Region of the Foreigners’ District where a number of Slovani have settled and established their own community

  The South Road: The main road running from the Housing District through the Craftsmen’s and Artisans’ Districts

  The Southern Promenade: The major road running from the Market District through the Arena District; the center of social life and night life in Galavan’s Port

  Strader Way: Small side street off of Lorin Street

  Tarus: Oervan demon of anger and rage

  Tempest: Raelyn’s sword

  Thelorin: Lord of Protection; Oervan god of protection and defense of the weak; symbolized by a steel disk or unadorned round steel shield

  Tradesmens’ District: District in the city where a number of tradesmen live and work; primarily low class housing;

  Travelers’ District: Main overland entryway into the city of Galavan’s Port; the only District that people can enter without having to state their business to the Watch; common meeting place for travelers passing through the city

  Travelers’ Square: Main square in the Travelers’ District; place where public punishments and executions are carried out

  Tuva: Lady of Miracles; Oervan goddess of fortune and miracles, both good and bad; symbolized by a golden coin, sometimes depicted with a laughing or crying face

  The Vashtik States: A collection of Coscan nations in the central plains and hills of Elria; the Vashtik States have long been at war with one another as well as with the nations at their borders; they held the territory of both Shaelwyn and Galavan’s Port as recently as a few hundred years ago, when wars with Orevanthar conquered them for the Oervan people; they comprise all of the primarily Coscan lands with the exception of Thelmidria, Greiston, and Chaldoon, and are relatively homogenous in their language, culture, and religion

  Vendara: Lady of Passion; Oervan goddess of passion, lust, and seduction; symbolized by a blood red triangle, pointing down

  Warden Street: The street running along the canal on the west side of the Wharf District

  Warden Street Canal: The canal running along the west side of the Wharf District; provides much of the waste runoff for the Wharf and Coscan districts; connects to the River Crae in the north and the Alewine River in the south

  The Watch: The constables of the city, who are empowered to act as a police force and an investigative body for crimes committed within the city

  Water Street: One of the major streets running from north to south in the Wharf District

  Weddleton: Town to the west of the city; home of the estates of a number of prominent lords

  Wharf District: Also known as the docks; district on the Bay of Galavan, where most shipping takes place; home to many of the warehouses in the city

  Whitestone Tavern: An inn and tavern in the Nobles’ District; a favorite of Raelyn’s

  Wisteria Bridge: The bridge connecting the Nobles’ District to the Garden District

  Women of Erosan: The priestesses of Erosan, known as the best healers among the Oervan people

  Yefuol: The god of the Coscan people

  Jason Scott Gleason is a resident of Elkridge, Maryland, where he lives with his fiancé, her son, their cat, her bird, his snake, the other’s two lizards, and a couple of fish claimed by nobody. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and raised in the small town of Mandeville. While not busy holding down a day job, he enjoys spending his free time writing, and can be found at the Maryland Renassaince Festival while it is in season.
