Blonde Bomb Tech Page 25

by Lara Santiago

“…and the next time, Miss Blonde Bomber, you may be the one trying in vain to save yourself from one of my bombs. I hope you don’t fail again.” The mad bomber cut the connection. Sabrina cursed and pushed the off button, cutting the connection to the dial tone she now heard. She went over to where Hennessey sat in the communications truck in time to hear him sigh.

“It was a long shot anyway,” he told her as he stepped out of the bomb truck. “We’ll see if we can get a warrant to do the back trace, but I don’t imagine he’s stupid enough to get caught this way.”

Sabrina whispered in his ear that the bomber was watching her right now and not to say too loudly or gesture anything he didn’t want the bomber to know too. Hennessey nodded. “We were listening in. You did good.”

Sabrina nodded her response, turned to Murphy and patted him on the back, whispering that the bomber was watching them. Shaking hands with Brown and Smith, she whispered the same and told them they were not to reveal to anyone that she had defused the bomb earlier. Brown and Smith each nodded in turn.

“Not to anyone,” she emphasized again. They both nodded again.

Hennessey was promptly accosted by Peters, who’d snuck up from giving yet another exclusive statement to the media about the two brave men who’d been able to defuse the bomb. “Are you going to fire her now?” he asked in a loud voice so all the reporters could hear.

“This is neither the time nor place, Councilman, but feel free to come to my office tomorrow morning and scream your request by dawn’s early light. As usual, you don’t have all the facts.”

“I have all the facts I need, Captain Hennessey.” He turned back to the cameras where he happily indulged in some Sabrina-bashing while at the same time he praised Brown and Smith for their heroic efforts.

Yeah, they had heroically gone up to see what Sabrina did to defuse the bomb. It wasn’t their fault. Hennessey turned to give some last minute instructions to the disposal unit on removing the bomb from the building.

Sabrina looked around her and felt suddenly alone. She scanned the crowd to see if Suzanne was still around and saw her come through a crowd of people and step up to the yellow perimeter tape. Sabrina walked over to her.

“What are you doing here, Suzanne?” Sabrina asked her with a disapproving tone. They shouldn’t be seen together.

“Heard there was a bomb threat on the news and came to see you in action,” she replied with a wan smile.

“Well, I didn’t do anything,” Sabrina said, sticking with the story that she hadn’t defused this bomb. It felt funny lying to Suzanne. It wasn’t like they were best buddies yet, but a friendship had begun. Guilt made Sabrina change the subject. “So this is the first bomb you weren’t connected with, just me. I grew up here.”

Suzanne looked over at the old crumbling institution and her eyes welled up, “I’m sorry you never got adopted, Sabrina.”

“That’s okay, not your fault.” Sabrina suddenly fought the urge to break down in tears herself…again. She looked down at the pavement between them to get hold of her near emotional outburst. She was a regular tear fest waiting to happen.

“Actually, I ‘am’ sort of connected to this orphanage,” Suzanne said, probably trying to fill the awkward silence.

“What?” Sabrina’s head snapped up. “How?” All night she’d been thinking that Suzanne being at all the other bomb sites was mostly coincidence having to do with their blood relationship. The orphanage, she’d thought, was all about Sabrina and only Sabrina…until now.

“Well, my adoptive parents picked me up from the hospital, but this is the orphanage of record on my adoption papers. This is the place that did all the paperwork. I think they sent a representative from here along with social services to the hospital or something.” Suzanne looked over Sabrina’s shoulder and smiled suddenly.

“What?” Sabrina put her uneasy feelings away, momentarily wondering what she smiled about.

“Sabrina’s got a boyfriend,” Suzanne taunted in a sing-song voice and then laughed lightly. “I always wanted to say that.”

Sabrina stared over her shoulder in the direction of Suzanne’s look and her eyes immediately connected with Jake’s volcanically intense green gaze. His arms were crossed over his chest in a show of supreme testosterone exhibition as he stood next to his brother. He nodded at her once. He was magnificent looking. Brian waved at her and then the two men turned back to their conversation.

“That was quite the scorching look he just sent your way. When my husband looks at me like that, he has only one thing on his mind,” Suzanne remarked.

“Really.” She wondered if smoke wafted off of her eyeballs. She blinked a couple of times to make sure.

“Yes. Definitely. Looks like things between you are going great.”

“Well, looks can be deceiving. We had a fight earlier. I broke up with him, but then he followed me here to make up.” Sabrina was confessing things to Suzanne again. Sharing more than she ever wanted to before. Having a sister seemed to be a great way to express things she’d always kept hidden.

“Making up is something else that will evoke a look like that in a man.” Suzanne eyes turned reminiscent. “I got pregnant with this baby when Ray and I made up one night and forgot to use…protection. It only takes once, you know.”

Sabrina sobered up. Not always, she thought, and guarded her face from reacting to a sudden sting to her heart. Well, at least that was one thing she didn’t have to worry about anymore with Jake. They could stop wasting condoms.

Sabrina looked up in time to have a microphone shoved into her face from a reporter who’d caught her off guard at the perimeter.

“Ms. Morgan. Mrs. Forrester. Is it true that you two are long-lost sisters reunited by the tragic bombs set by the mad bomber?”

“What?” Sabrina asked, shocked. They’d been trying to keep their identity a secret from the press. She looked around for Hennessey and whistled to get his attention. He looked up in time for the reporter’s next statement.

“Councilman Peters was kind enough to give us an exclusive. He said that the two of you didn’t even know the other existed until three weeks ago.”

“No comment,” Sabrina said and lifted the yellow tape enough to yank Suzanne inside the perimeter. They walked towards the bomb truck and met Hennessey half way there.

“Guess who just spilled all about me and Suzanne?” Sabrina looked over her shoulder as Peters raised the yellow tape and allowed the press inside the perimeter. The vein on Hennessey’s forehead looked imminent for sudden release. This was apparently the last straw for him regarding the councilman.

“You prick,” Hennessey said as the camera crew reached them along side Peters. Sabrina saw the feral look in Hennessey’s eye a moment before he lunged at Peters, hands outstretched, presumably to choke the life out of the idiot councilman.

Sabrina stepped in front of Peters, taking the body blow of her angry boss in order to keep him from murdering the Councilman on local television. She looked over his shoulder as Jake and Brian registered the altercation about to erupt and came over to help. He and Brian each grabbed a side of Hennessey before he could take out the councilman in a single punch.

“Please, Captain Hennessey, I beg of you. Don’t let him bait you. If you kill him there will be no one to buffer me from him. You know better than anyone how bad I need you to be a layer of protection between the councilman and myself,” Sabrina whispered as Jake grabbed his flailing arms to subdue him and Brian stepped in front of him to face the reporters.

“He is blowing our case. Again!” Hennessey said between clenched teeth.

“I know, but it’s too late. The press already knows. No need to give them a murder on page one next to our long lost sisters feature story. That’s simply too much news for one day.”

“A statement has not been prepared at this time, folks.” Brian was in diplomatic mode trying to calm everyone down.

“Actually, it has.” Councilman Peters ignor
ed the waves of anger coming off of Hennessey in sheets proceeding to tick off one by one the points of the case. The only thing left secret was the significance of the little pumpkin note and only because they hadn’t told Councilman Peters about it in detail.

Hennessey released a large deep cleansing breath and stopped trying to hurtle himself at Councilman Peters, who by now was in fine form, yapping away about the case and finishing up with the announcement that Sabrina had once again been unable to defuse the bomb.

Sabrina turned to tell him to shut up without thinking when Hennessey grabbed her shoulders.

“If I don’t get to kill him, then neither do you,” he said. “Let him dig his own grave. I’ll be sitting on the mayor’s desk tomorrow morning explaining how Councilman Peters has been a detriment to our case. I’ll see his ass in jail before this is over for tampering with evidence for starters and chain of custody issues for a big finale.”

“Fine.” Sabrina’s jaw ached from the tight clench she had it in to keep from speaking.

“You defused the bomb over an hour ago, right Sabrina?” Hennessey whispered in her ear.

She turned back and nodded whispering. “Murphy and me.”

“So what did Smith and Brown do?”

Sabrina smiled and said, “They kept quiet about what they found up in the janitor’s closet.”

“That stays a big fat five-way secret until I give the word, got it?” Hennessy said in a barely audible tone.

Sabrina nodded and stepped from the circle of reporters forming around Peters and trying to suck her in. She grabbed Suzanne by the arm and led her away from the impromptu circus. Jake stepped in behind her, covering her back as they reconvened at the bomb truck several paces away.

Jake had an unusual jealous streak touch him when Sabrina started whispering to her boss. He wanted to know what they were talking about. It was certainly about the events regarding the bomb tonight and Councilman Prick…Peters, he meant.

Hennessey was very obviously not interested in Sabrina for anything except as a bomb technician employee. Jake knew Sabrina respected her boss. She’d told him more than once on her recent vacation that Hennessey was like a father figure.

Jake was miffed because she was sharing a secret and he didn’t get to be included. He registered a sudden petulant streak in his usual calm nature. He wanted to be the only one to share Sabrina’s secrets, and she had some hellacious ones.

The one about being infertile made him heartsick. Not only because having kids was something he’d always planned on, but also because Sabrina was so despondent over it. He’d made it worse by being such a jerk, watching her for signs of pregnancy for the last couple of weeks. Ever since he had shared that unprotected glorious nirvana-inducing experience with her on her hallway floor. It gave him chills to think about it still. His errant gaze focused in on her again as she conversed with her sister.

Sabrina told Suzanne not to talk to any reporters and to learn the two words, ‘no comment’ and to only utter those in the presence of any media. Suzanne nodded and looked a little dazed from all the attention. Sabrina patted her on the shoulder and sent her on home.

Looking at the two of them together right now, it was so obvious they were sisters. How could anyone have missed it before, Jake wondered?

“You going to drive me back home?” he asked when Sabrina finally turned to him.

“Maybe,” she responded, smiling. “Let me confer with Murphy and Hennessey a minute and then we’ll go. Okay?” He nodded, still keeping a close watch on her.

Jake observed the three of them put their heads together as if in a football huddle. Hennessey did most of the talking and the other two nodded a lot. After several minutes the meeting broke up and Sabrina turned, coming towards him again.

Jake wanted to squirrel her away to a more private place to talk about their earlier conversation. He wanted to explain to her how he wished he’d handled it better and that everything would be okay. Of course, he still wanted her. Truth be told, he wanted her right now, but he was going to talk tonight. He wanted her to understand she was not damaged goods in his eyes.

The thought made him want to punch her ex-boyfriend’s lights out, but he owed him a debt of gratitude for being so shallow. So what if they never had their own flesh and blood kids? Surely there were kids already out in the world for them to adopt. He could still envision his previously planned future easily. Jake wanted Sabrina to be a part of his life. He looked up as Sabrina approached him and a wave of very intense emotion…love surged over him. He caught her eye when she looked up with only a few steps to go. She radiated a sexual stare that socked him in the gut with want.

Sabrina looked like she wanted to…jump on him. Did she want to jump on him? Right now? He hoped so. Was he still inebriated? No, but he sure felt good. If anything he was drunk on love. Lord almighty, he was such a sap.

“So,” was all she said, and gave him a searing look like she wanted to lick him from chin to belt buckle. He was dreaming. Probably. Or horny. Undoubtedly. She licked her bottom lip. Oh God. Body blow. That couldn’t be interpreted any other way. It said come and get me big boy…now.

“So,” he responded in kind, and gave her his most intense here-I-come-to-get-you-now look. Her eyes widened and her pupils dilated. Beautiful.

“I hope we can make it back to your place before embarrassing ourselves,” she said finally and took his hand leading him quickly to her car.

“How big is your back seat?” he asked her with a straight face.

“Not big enough for you.” She winked at him, and tugged him along faster.

Sabrina swerved into Jake’s parking lot and located an empty parking spot near the far dark corner. He had his hand in her lap the whole way over. He stroked her clit through her pants and teased her all along the drive. They were lucky she didn’t plow into a tree from lack of focus.

He kissed her neck and whispered naughty wicked things in her ear regarding his plans once they got back to ‘their’ apartment. She hoped for a stoplight, so she could participate in the foreplay, but she hit every single light green. Damn it. How often did that happen? Never.

Sabrina moaned again and squirmed in her seat as she flew into a space between two huge SUV’s with a final screech of brakes. She couldn’t get her car into park fast enough. She jerked the parking brake to its capacity and launched on him. She attacked his mouth with hers so ferociously she grazed his lower lip with her front teeth. If it hurt him, he ignored it and released her seatbelt, pulling her close to his chest as the now ferocious kiss made Sabrina question her sanity.

“Inside. Now,” she managed to whisper between desperately consuming lip locks.

“Umm. Hmm,” he seemed to agree, but neither of them moved. They were taking turns devouring each other.

Sabrina took the opportunity to run her hand down the front of Jake’s t-shirt and started groping below his belt…a little. His cock enlarged to the point it felt like it was about to erupt from his pants and threatened to snap his belt in two. They were crammed in the front seat of her car on bucket seats with the parking brake sticking up between them. Jake stroked his hand down from her collarbone to her breast, kneading it lightly. She flinched from his touch. Ouch. Why did that hurt? Oh yeah. It was almost that time of the month. Actually, it was over due for that time of the month, she thought calculating the days in her head, but stopped and lost her train of thought when Jake spoke.

“I’m sorry,” he said, breathing hard. “You okay?” he asked, as he stopped touching her tender breasts. His hand slid up to her throat to caress her.

“Yeah. Maybe we overdid it last night.” She was breathing hard too. “I feel a little bruised.”

  “Was that only last night?”

“Yeah. You’d think we hadn’t seen each other in months.”

“Feels like it. I’m sorry babe, maybe we should…” He backed away from her further in the small space and
squinted, looking over her shoulder out the window.

“Jake I swear to God, I’m about to have a meltdown. Now choose, either here in the car over the emergency brake or upstairs in your apartment tucked in your nice big king-sized bed.”

“Car.” He closed the short distance, slipped his hands into her hair and resumed kissing her. He thrust his tongue in her mouth gently, kissing her so tenderly she was almost subdued, but then a familiar ache from her libido reared.

Sabrina broke her lips from his as he moved to kissing her cheek to whisper, “Overruled, let’s go upstairs—now. Maybe we can make it to your entryway floor before we go at each other like rabid dogs.”

“Your wish is my command.” He laughed and released her slowly to exit her car.

Immediately out of the vehicle, they clung together like drunken lovers as they kissed their way, staggering, across the parking lot, only stopping twice on the way up the stairs to his apartment for luscious, consuming lip-locks.

Beyond the bruised-feeling breasts, which Jake was overly careful of and she ignored anyway, Sabrina thought make-up sex was a great invention. So intense. So important. So indescribably satisfying.

They hit the front door as clothes started flying off, barely getting inside before an indecency charge could be made against them. Sabrina wondered at the intenseness of what Jake did to her emotions. They’d made love the night before…more than once. She called it vacation-is-almost-over-sex. It hadn’t been enough. It never seemed to be enough.

She peeled her shirt off and unbuttoned her jeans before he got the door completely shut. She kicked off her shoes right before Jake turned, slid to his knees, grabbed her naked hips, and put his mouth directly on her crotch as she stood. His tongue licked its way to her hyper-sensitive clit. She cried out as pleasure speared through her body. Her knees failed her.

“Jake, let me sit…” she gasped and slid to the floor. She fell to her back and unhooked her front closure bra as Jake removed her bunched-up jeans from around her ankles. Her bent legs fell open in apparent invitation as Jake raked a gaze across her naked body. He lowered his face to between her legs again, keeping eye contact with her all the way down.
