Cowboy For A Season (The New West)
Page 10
Alex leaned toward her and she thought he would kiss her right then.
The pastor said, "In the eyes of God and by the powers vested in me by the State of Texas, I pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride, sir."
She laughed as Alex lifted her off her feet and kissed her soundly. The cowboys clapped and cheered, and the organ played as he led her down the aisle.
Alex's truck, with tattered bull ropes tied to the back and Just Married written in white letters on the windows, sat out in front of the little church.
Lucy had provided packets of birdseed for everyone to throw as the couple exited the doors. Alex, who had evidently been warned, grabbed her shoulders, pulling her into a run as tiny seeds rained down on them.
As he yanked open the truck door, she stood on tip toes and whispered in his ear.
He jerked back and stared at her. "Que? Hannah?"
With a thousand-watt smile, she nodded.
He lifted her high and spun in circles, yelling, "We're having a bebȇ! We're having a bebȇ!"
She wanted everyone to know before they left town, but Alex had to be first, and it had to be on this, their very own, magical day. Friends and family rushed to their side, yelling and laughing, and patting Alex on the back.
Finally, ignoring everyone around them, Alex had eyes only for her. He leaned down and kissed her tenderly, deeply, lovingly, like the man he was, like the man he would be, forever and ever.
