"Business is still doing well, even without the anniversary event to prepare for. And I'm glad we solved the case. But, I guess even though I know that she did a terrible thing, I still feel a little bad for Donna Sanders. Her life seemed to be unraveling before her, and the professor was mean to her at a time that made her snap."

“I think the fact that she confessed will help with her sentencing,” Ryan said. “It was a good idea of yours to talk to her calmly like that.”

“I had a feeling that was the best way to approach it,” Heather said, simply.

“Yeah. Great idea then,” Amy said. “But whose bright idea was it to have a trip that required us to go up so many stairs?”

“It will all be worth it when we reach the top,” Heather assured them, hoping she was right.

They huffed and puffed a bit, but reached the top together.

  “Wow,” Heather said.

It was truly beautiful to see so much of Key West from that height. They could see the quarters where the lighthouse keepers once lived and the pristine beaches. The sky was a perfect blue with clouds floating by. The sight was truly peaceful.

They enjoyed looking at it for a while and then Leila joked, “And now we have to walk down all those steps?”

  They laughed.

“Well, I wouldn’t recommend jumping,” Eva said.

“Come on,” said Lilly. “We can look at where the lighthouse keepers used to live and see photos and some of their old belongings. They have a whole maritime museum to show us what it was like to have this job. It was really important that this light was kept on all the time to keep ships safe.”

Amy groaned. “Another museum? I think I need to take a break from museums too.”

  Heather smiled. “Come on, Ames.”

“Stairs and facing a museum after the terrible time we had in the last one? I don’t think I can. I lack the motivation.”

“What if Ryan agrees to tell you what Big CC’s childhood nickname was once you reach the bottom?”

“You know it now?” Amy asked.

“Chief Chet let it slip at work,” Ryan said.

“Out of my way,” Amy said. “I need to get to the bottom.”

She hurried down the steps, and the others followed. Heather hoped that learning that the nickname was "Chicken Clarence" would be worth the rush.

  The End.
