“Time to call the cops... ones from a different precinct, maybe,” Jeremiah offered.

Tian shook his head. “Nope. Internal Affairs. It’s time my captain paid for manipulating those in his department.”

“They’ll believe you?” Roman asked. He crossed to his lover and wrapped his arms around him from behind, resting his chin on his shoulder. “They’ll punish him?”

Nodding, Tian lifted the phone to his ear. “Yep,” he confirmed. “I have video with audio. Proof. I have a couple of other cameras around here, too.” He peered over his shoulder, giving Roman a wry smile. “When I started working undercover, I put them in to make certain my home was never compromised. Never needed them until now.” He shook his head. “My own damn captain.”

“After that, I’m taking you home, and I’m not letting you out of my sight,” Roman whispered into his ear. “No more danger for you for a while.”

Tian pressed his back into Roman’s chest. “You say that as if it’s a threat,” he teased. Before Roman could respond, Tian spoke into his phone. “Yes, Officer McClintock? This is Chavez, badge nine-nine-three-six-two, retired. I’d like to report a break-in perpetrated by my former captain and some others from my old department.”

As Tian explained the situation, Roman continued to hold him. He peered around the space, at the painted walls and ruined books and knickknacks. He wondered if the broken items had much meaning to Tian.

“Yes, sir,” Tian said, finishing up his conversation. “I’ll be here waiting.” He hung up his phone and swept his gaze around the area. “Well, guess I don’t have much to pack now or any furniture to move. Nice.”

Roman’s brows shot up. “You care so little for these things?” When Tian shrugged, he added, “Then why do you have them?”

“They’re reminders of my old life,” Tian told him, resting his palms on Roman’s chest. “You are my new life. You and them—” He pointed at the others. “Our clutch.” Rubbing his chest lightly, he smiled up at him. “After Officer McClintock arrives with a crime scene crew, and I give them the recordings and give him a statement, I’ll be ready to go home.”

“Home?” Roman felt hope swell thought his chest. “Are you calling the estate home?”

Tian nodded, a blush staining his cheeks. “As long as you don’t mind me moving myself in with you.”

Roman growled softly, then sealed his lips over Tian’s mouth. He pushed his tongue into his mate’s mouth, teasing and tasting. Relishing his lover’s masculine flavor as well as the way he submitted so easily, he hummed his appreciation.

When breathing became paramount, Roman broke the kiss. He panted softly as he grinned down at Tian. “Nothing would make me happier.”

“Let’s go wait in the SUV,” Tian murmured, giving him a heated smile. “I can think of a fantastic way to pass the time.”

Groaning, Roman nodded, then allowed Tian to lead him from the room. He heard a few chuckles from behind him as well as Jeremiah calling, “We’ll let you know when they get here!”

Roman ignored them, more than happy to focus on Tian and the life they were building together.
