“Dude, you sound like a chick.”
His face scrunches up, and even the muscle men beside us snicker. “Shut the fuck up.”
After I stop laughing, I think over what he’s said. “Look, it happened pretty fast and I only had time to tell your sister, I knew I was about to break her heart. I had to see her.”
“I get that Bomb, but I thought you were dead. Nobody fucking explained where you were, Prez had me believe you and your dad ran off from the club.” He explains and I realise how fucked up everything was when I left.
“It was top secret.” I nod, “But it was fucked up.”
“As much as it was, I’m glad Elise had you to protect her back there.”
I nod, memories I want to forget flashing back. “I was never glad to be there until then.”
From the moment I turned up with my dad at the Devils compound I hated my life but when I realised Elise was there, being held captive. I realised I had the power to help her and end all that shit. Thoughts of my dad and the way he tragically died back there swallows me for a second but I push it to the back of my mind.
Scrappy opens the door we have our backs to and pops his head inside. “Everything ok in there?”
“Fine.” I hear Mick and Scrappy closes the door.
After another minute of silence he turns to me again. “How many times?”
“What?” I ask, dreading what he’s asking me now.
He takes a deep breath before asking. “How many times did you save her?”
He confirms my fears, I really didn’t want him to ask that. I trouble with the knowledge what happened back at the Devils, Scrappy doesn’t need to know. “Honestly, I try not to remember Scrap.”
He looks down at the floor, nodding to himself. “But you saved her, from those fuckers.”
“Yeah, but it’s not as simple as that. In order to save Elise, Lauren and Natasha were put into the firing line. The girls weren’t just being used in that way.” I add without thinking. “Demon used to love tormenting them, parading them around and loving watching them as they were embarrassed.”
“They were lucky to have you.” Scrappy replies, still nodding. “I know what the girls did to help her and they know how I feel about that.”
“Don’t beat yourself up, you wouldn’t have wanted to see what happened to them, and everyone else. Sadly it wasn’t just those three that were held there. I can’t delete it all from my head.” I shake my head, trying to remove the thoughts. “I wish I could though.”
He smirks. “Then I guess we’re both fucked.”
I nod in agreement.
“Anyway, Elise hates that I can’t fucking stand you and in order for her to forgive me, I have to try and forgive you.” He finally spits out.
“Understood.” I nod as the door behind is eventually pushed open and the job is finished. We ride back to the clubhouse to report back to Prez, when we arrive and jump off our bikes Scrappy stops me.
“I’m gonna try alright, I’m not promising anything but I owe you a debt I could never repay.” He stands before me, honest and for the first time since I returned back to the Kings, I see my old friend again.
“I don’t see it like that.” I offer him, I did it because it was the right thing to do and because I love Elise of course.
We enter the clubhouse, Scrappy walking ahead of me and everyone who we pass turns to look in interest. It’s no secret how Scrappy feels about me. Baby runs up to us, his big playful smile on his face. “Any fights then boys?”
“Sorry to disappoint.” I laugh.
“Shut the fuck up!” He shouts, slapping Scrappy on his back.
“Fuck off Baby.” Scrappy shrugs him off as he walks towards Prez who is sat beside the bar.
Hearing Baby’s loud laughter, he turns and notices Scrappy and I for the first time. He nods in greeting. “How’d it go?”
“Easy security job boss.” Scrappy replies.
“No trouble?” He asks, his eyes dancing between us.
“No trouble.” I answer and I see the slight surprise in his eyes. They widen just a small amount, but I see it and within seconds his usual poker face returns.
“Ok then.” Scrappy then walks away, joining some of the brothers at the other side of the room. I say brothers, Sledge and Boots are more like his loyal followers. I’ve never met them before and I find it funny that they lick his ass so fucking much and because Scrappy makes it clear how much he hates me, they feel exactly the same. I turn to leave, but Prez calls me back. “Wait a min Bomb.”
I look to my President. “You not shitting me?”
I laugh a little. “We spoke about a few things.”
He shakes his head. “Well, I didn’t think that would happen to be honest.”
“Turns out Elise heard about yesterday.” I inform him and a big smirk takes over his face.
“That right?” Laughing, he leaves me to it and I order myself a much needed drink.
Never did I imagine today to go the way it did. I get my phone out and send my girl a well done message. Within minutes, I get a reply.
Elise: I’m glad, but it’s not all down to me, my dad can be very scary
I wasn’t expecting to hear that, but wanting to talk more I shoot her another text.
Me: Heard there’s a party tomorrow night?
Elise: Yep, surprise for my mum. You are coming right???
I can’t help the smile that creeps when I reply.
Me: That depends, do you want me there?
Elise: Yes x
Me: Then I will be there.
Didn’t really matter what she said, I was going to that party. Even before Scrappy made peace between us. I will have my girl back and the fact Scrappy isn’t on my case anymore, just means I can enjoy this a whole lot more.
Chapter Five
Elise
I look around the garden, smiling at everyone who is here for my mum. Uncle Franky salutes his drink to me and I wave back. A group of bikers surround him as they laugh. Scrappy is one of them, he looks happy enough and I’m glad. The last thing I want today is him kicking off.
“Elise.” At the mention of my name from his lips I break out in goose bumps.
“You came.” I look into Bomber’s eyes, drowning in the familiar shade of hazel. The fact that Bomber is here, fills me with more joy than I want to admit to. His mouth quirks up at one corner, and crap if he doesn’t look sexy doing it! Shit, am I being too obvious?
“You said you wanted me here, and I wouldn’t wanna let you down.” His words light me up inside, but I don’t show him any insight. Instead, I play it cool. I look over to where I was just watching Scrappy and see him gazing in our direction. This is the first test my brother has concerning Bomber and I, I pray he passes with flying colours. I really do.
“I thought that, considering my brother goes crazy at the just the mention of your name, you might skip the party.” I watch Scrappy as I continue to talk over Bomber’s shoulder, he wears a slight frown but he isn’t charging over here like I would expect him to.
“You don’t have to worry about your brother now babe.” My eyes snap back to Bomber, for the first time I notice he’s wearing a dark green tight shirt, it shows all the lines that define his stomach. Oh wow, he has a six pack. Of course he does! Just to torture and seduce me that little bit more. “Scrappy and I had a little heart to heart.” He winks.
“I heard you two had a security job together.” I poke, hoping to get more information out of him. Obviously I know better than to ask out right, but Scrappy didn’t tell me anything and I would like to know something but these ‘club rules’ are here for a reason and I respect them enough to not go against them.
Bomber nods. “We did, and the ice was broken.” He takes a sip of his beer and leaves it at that.
“The ice was broken?” I repeat.
Bomber then laughs, causing my brother to look over again. “That’s all you’re getting.”
My phone vibrates in my pocket and
it’s a text from my Dad, to let me know he and my mum will be at the house in ten minutes.
“They’ll be here in ten minutes everyone!” I shout into the backyard and cheers break out as everyone gets ready.
Mostly everyone from the club is here, but all of the Old Ladies are present to celebrate with my mother. Auntie Laura, Grim’s mum, runs over to me with excitement and I feel slightly awkward as Bomber stands beside me.
“Oh you did such a great job Lissy.” She hugs me tightly.
“Thanks.” I smile, looking around at the decorated garden over her shoulder.
Yellow balloons decorate the fence, one by one in a line and they’re yellow because it’s my mother’s favourite colour. A huge banner reads, Happy Birthday June over the back door and four table’s line the left side of the garden. With all types of food lay prepared for the party. Dad arranged most of it but some of the Old Ladies had brought along some too which now makes the tables seem overcrowded, but you can’t have too much food with this lot.
“Yesterday was amazing, we should do it more often. All us girls.” She giggles, releasing me from her hold.
“We should.” I agree, however I wouldn’t want to go with Auntie Laura and my mother again as they sat giggling about my father and Uncle Franky. It’s safe to say me and the rest of the girls left feeling a little queasy from what we overheard.
She eventually leaves us to it and goes in search of Lauren, which makes me secretly giggle. Since the day Lauren revealed she was pregnant, Laura hasn’t left her alone. I get she’s excited for her first grandchild, but I think Grim’s going to have to speak to his mother soon if she doesn’t let up on Lauren. The poor girl.
“I’m going to look out for them.” I inform Bomber, walking backwards as he watches me with a funny smile. I enter the house and walk through to the living room with a light feeling surrounding me. I go towards the window beside the door, so I can spy my parents but I’m surprised when I spot Lauren and Grim, sitting on the sofa and talking amongst themselves.
“Hey guys!” I welcome them.
“Elise.” My cousin, Grim nods.
Lauren smiles, her cheeks are a little more plump than usual because of her pregnancy. Her hand gently lays on her swollen belly. “We’re just sitting inside, out of the sunshine because Grim doesn’t think there’s any seats out there.”
I can’t help but laugh. “Yes there are plenty of places to sit on.”
Lauren rolls her eyes, “How’s everything going with Bomber?”
Grim suddenly stands. “I’ll take that as my cue to leave.”
I reach out and grab onto his arm. “Wait, thank you for talking with Scrappy.”
With a slight smile he nods. “He’s stubborn, but his heart is in the right place.”
I watch Lauren as she watches him go. “You look so happy.”
She looks back to me, sighing in content as her eyes brighten. “I really am.”
I take a peek out the window, not noticing my parents just yet. Lauren stands to join me as I wait and I look down at her belly which fills me with excitement. She’s twenty-two weeks pregnant now, we did a lot of excited talk about the baby yesterday whilst we were enjoying the relaxation at the spa. “I can’t wait to meet him or her.”
Lauren laughs. “Tell me about it, but I’m worried about getting bigger.”
I nod, looking down at her belly once more. She’s not that big actually. “Oh yeah, you’re going to get bigger.”
She tilts her head back and moans. “I’m already finding it uncomfortable to sleep.”
I take pity on her, but the familiar sound of my dad’s bike snatches my attention. I will never forget the rumbling of his bike. I used to listen out for it while I was growing up. “They’re here.”
“I’ll let them all know.” She quickly makes her way outside, alerting our large family outside.
I look out the window and see my Dad helping my mother from the bike. He always takes her on a ride when it’s her birthday, or their anniversary. I have to look away though when she throws herself into his arms and lands her mouth on his. That is not something I want to see.
Running footsteps behind me alert me to Scrappy’s appearance just in time for the front door to click open. My father has his hands over our mother’s eyes, her wide smile the only thing showing on her face. “What are you doing?” She laughs, holding onto dads hands for balance as he walks her forward.
We can see dads face over mums because he towers over her, he too is smiling and it makes me feel so happy that we did this. After all the crap this club has been through, it’s about time we started celebrating more.
“Happy birthday princess.” My father whispers into her ear, and removes his hands from her eyes.
I can’t help but tearfully giggle when she gasps in delight at seeing her children standing before her. In the room we have decorated for her arrival. I look around us, thinking of looking from my mums point of view, seeing photos blown up in large prints and decorating the living room and continuing into the hallway and kitchen, but she hasn’t seen those yet.
“Oh wow!” She cries out, hands over mouth as tears gather in her eyes.
“Happy birthday mum.” I rush over to her and grab her tightly. She wraps her own arms around me, and Scrappy joins her side, draping his arm around her.
“Happy birthday.” I hear him kiss her cheek.
We stand back, letting her take in the pictures. A young June, posing for the camera on the back of dads bike and more as they travelled through their growing relationship. Even family photos as they have Scrappy, and then me, which are cringe worthy photos, but anything for my mum.
“You guys.” She happily cries, and my dad leads her through the memory lane of photos.
“You did good.” Scrappy mumbles as we watch them walk.
“Thanks.” I begin to slowly follow them, wanting to see my mums shock when she sees the garden full of people.
“Bomber came then.” He interrupts my gazing.
“Yes.” I quickly answer and take a look at him from the corner of my vision. “Do you have a problem?”
His eyebrows rise. “Would you believe me if I said no?”
“I’m not sure.” I look back to our parents who are close to the back door.
“I owe him for doing what I couldn’t.” Scrappy almost whispers and I look to him in shock. I know what he’s hinting at, he means back at the Devil’s compound. My father told me he beats himself up not being able to protect me or stop the kidnapping all together. I’ve long suspected that he hated Bomber because he was there instead of Scrappy, but I don’t blame anyone for my kidnapping except myself. If I hadn’t been so stubborn in the first place, and wandered away from my father and the rest of the club, then I wouldn’t have been found by Demon.
I reach out and hold onto my brother’s arm, tears blurring my vision of him. “It wasn’t your fault, Bomber helped and so did the girls and youu helped in saving me and bringing me back home.”
My voice breaks from the emotion and seeing my big brother cry. It’s only a tear from each eye before he quickly wipes them away, and the sight of them break me.
“Oh my god!” My mum shrieks as I hear everyone from the garden yell, happy birthday!
With a reassuring smile, and a quick clean-up of my face, I rush towards them and join my mother as she cries happy tears at the sight of all our family and friends.
“Happy birthday mum.” I hold her tightly and after she pulls herself together, we all join the party. Drew turns the music up and Dad starts the BBQ, which I didn’t plan on using because we have enough food already, but you know how men act around a BBQ. They just can’t help themselves.
Lauren, Tasha, Drew and Maci all run up to me, congratulating me on today. “It wasn’t all me.”
“Elise!” Drew shouts, quirking her eyebrow in a sassy way. “Are you telling me your dad and Scrappy did all this?”
She opens her arms, gesturing to everything around u
s. The decorations, photos, food and all the rest. I laugh at her point. “Well most of it.”
“You mean everything but the BBQ?” Lauren laughs and we all join her.
Lauren’s swollen belly jiggles when she laughs and it’s adorable. So much so, that I point to it and go all googly eyed. “Aw Lauren look at your belly.”
She looks down, caressing her growing unborn child with an expression I wish to wear one day.
“I can’t believe you aren’t finding out the sex.” Maci adds, shaking her head. “I wouldn’t have the strength.”
Lauren laughs. “Grim nearly caved, but I want to be as traditional as we can.”
“No guessing he really wants his little boy.” Drew laughs, rolling her eyes.
“Yeah, he said if he has a daughter then he’s most likely to commit murder.” Lauren frowns, holding onto her baby bump.
We all erupt into laughter, apart from Lauren, she actually looks worried. Which then makes us laugh even more. Poor girl.
“So how is it going between you and Bomber?” She asks, looking over to the sexy man in question beside the BBQ.
“Ok, I suppose. Better actually, now that he and Scrappy spoke to each other.” I tell them what I was told and they all look to me with open mouths. “But I want Scrappy to know this isn’t just about Bomber, it’s about everything. He takes his big brother responsibility too seriously.”
“They had a man to man talk?” Drew marvels. “Scrappy doesn’t do that.”
“When it comes to his little sister he apparently does.” Maci nods.
“That, or the fact she has a scary dad.” I point out. “But whatever they said, it worked out.”
“Then why aren’t you over there?” Asks Natasha, pointing over to Bomber who is now looking in our direction.
“Get over there.” Lauren adds, looking back to me with wide eyes.
“Yeah, before someone else does.” Maci looks over to Dallas, her eyes filling with hate.
Dallas is a pretty girl, long dark hair and bright blue eyes but she’s a bunny. Maci is a bunny too, but she doesn’t go around sleeping with every Kings member. She’s here because she’s alone in this world and wants looking after. In return she helps a lot of the old ladies run the club and babysitting their kids. The Old Ladies love her. Maci acts more like a big sister to all the club children and that doesn’t go unnoticed by the members. They see her, and its good attention. Most of the Bunnies think getting up the ladder and becoming an Old Lady means sleeping with any member that pays you the slightest attention, hoping that they one day can rise in their station, but that’s not the case. What man would want a girl who has been with every brother he has in the club? None of the Kings members, that’s for sure and I’ve seen a couple of members watching Maci with more interest than most.
