  ~ About this story ~

I wrote “View of a Cemetery” after I had visited Highgate Cemetery in London to photograph and document the old cemetery which is rather neglected and filled with ivy-covered Victorian graves.

Nearby the cemetery are a couple of small houses and I wondered what it would be like to be a writer and look out over the cemetery every day. It was not until later that I learned that Highgate Cemetery also influence Bram Stoker’s novel “Dracula”.

I did quite a lot of background research for the story, including some general research about Bath and London in the 19th century, marriage possibilities if you happened to be born outside of matrimony, and the introduction of gas street lighting in London.

I hope you enjoyed reading this story as much as I liked writing it!
