“You can’t just say you’re sorry and expect me to forgive you. It doesn’t work that way, Brett.”
“I know I’m a dick, possessive, controlling…whatever word you want to use, and I know that I lied. But the love I feel for you is not a lie, Evvie,” I said, my voice pained. “I wish you could forgive me now but I know that it will take time. Especially after all the shit I put you through. I don’t expect that. I just—”
“Was that the only reason you broke up with me?”
I grimaced and let out a deep breath. “No.”
“I didn’t think so. Tell me.”
I met her gaze, my dick jumping at her demand. “Claire knows things about me. Threatened to ruin me, and my career, if I didn’t break up with you. I was arguing with her when Mathis walked in and overheard everything. He’s the reason I’m here. He put an end to her shit.”
“What things?”
“She said she would tell everyone about my dark sadistic ways. Tell people that I force pain on the women I sleep with. She—” I swallowed hard, fury rushing through me. “—had bruises on her and threatened to report them to the police, telling them it was me that hit her. I didn’t. I swear to God I didn’t.”
“I know. I would never think that of you.” Evvie wrapped her arms around my neck, holding me tight against her.
“I didn’t. I would never abuse a woman,” I said against her shoulder.
“I know,” she whispered.
“I’m so sorry. I should have come to you in the first place. I shouldn’t have tried to deal with this on my own.” I pushed out of her arms and rested my head in her lap.
Evvie ran her fingers through the hair at my nape.
“Please forgive me. I’m begging you.” I looked up at her. “I want you to be mine again.”
“You hurt me, Brett,” she said, her voice small.
My jaw clenched. “I know.”
“But I’m…” She took a breath. “You can’t leave me if you get scared. You need to come to me.”
“I know and I will. I fucking promise I will.” Wrapping my arms around her, I hugged her against me. “I love you. I love you so fucking much.”
“I love you too,” she whispered against my neck.
“God, I don’t deserve you.”
She pulled back and cupped my cheeks. “We’re in this as one. Together.”
I nodded and kissed her forehead. “I will do anything to make you happy again. To make you trust me, forgive me, love me again. I will spend the rest of my life making this up to you.”
Tears welled in her eyes and she threw her arms around me, making me fall back on my ass.
I returned her hug, squeezing her with everything in me. This was it. She was the one. My one. My only. And I was never letting her go.

After spending the night with Evvie, I spent the morning making love to her. It had been the first time since meeting her that I finally gave her all of me. I gave her my control and let her master over me until I couldn’t take it anymore, and dominated her instead.
While Evvie visited with Ethan, I slipped into the bathroom and took a shower.
Once I finished up, I got dressed and headed to the living room. Running a towel over my wet hair, I rounded the corner and found Evvie standing at the door with Claire and Ethan.
Fuck my life.
“Perfect timing,” Claire muttered, taking a step into the apartment when Evvie stopped her.
“I don’t fucking think so,” Evvie snapped. “You need to leave. Now.”
Claire sneered. “I forgot something here.”
“Ethan, go get whatever she forgot please,” Evvie told her brother.
“Fuck my life,” Ethan mumbled, his feet shuffling down the hall as he left the living room.
“So, you two cozy again? Getting reacquainted? Did he show you his dark, sadistic desires yet, Evvie?” Claire crooned.
Evvie glared. “I think you should stop before I throw you out.”
Claire rolled her eyes and looked down at her. “Bitch, please.”
Ethan stepped up beside them and handed her a plastic bag. “We’re done. Leave.”
Her eyes narrowed. “Did Brett tell you that he got me pregnant?”
Evvie’s jaw clenched. “I know every—”
She smirked. “I don’t think you do. It’s his fucking fault I lost the baby.”
My back stiffened.
“We don’t even know if it was his,” Evvie said, her voice calm and even.
“Oh it was his, Evvie. I made sure of it.”
I took a step toward her, having had enough of her shit, when Evvie pushed her.
“I have three brothers. I’m not fucking scared to hit a woman, bitch. Get out. Now.”
Claire met my gaze. “You’re seriously not going to do anything? After all that we shared?”
“Why would I? You’re dead to me,” I said, my voice calm.
A gasp escaped her lips before her eyes went cold and deadly. “Fuck you all.” She spun on her heel and left the apartment, slamming the door shut behind her.
“Evvie?” Ethan said softly. “I’m sorry.”
She nodded, blowing out a slow breath.
He patted my arm and headed down the hall, leaving me alone with my girlfriend.
I sat on the couch, dropping my head in my hands.
Evvie sat beside me, placing her hand on my shoulder.
My body relaxed under her touch. “I’m so sorry.”
She shook her head. “You didn’t know she would show up.”
I looked up at her. “No. But I knew she wouldn’t give up easily.”
“Do you think she’ll be back?” Evvie asked, circling her hands around my arm.
“At some point, yes.” I grabbed her hand and kissed her knuckles.
Evvie didn’t leave me. No matter what Claire said, she was still by my side.
Through whatever desires I had, Evvie embraced them and welcomed them with open arms. I would show her that part of herself. The masochist inside her that would crave the sting of my palm.
By the time I was through with her, she would end up craving it.
I GRIPPED EVVIE’S thigh as we drove to the airport. Mathis had sent a driver to pick me up. As much as I didn’t want to leave her, I was looking forward to the experience.
But a month without Evvie was going to fucking suck.
I leaned toward her, brushing my mouth along the shell of her ear. “Lover.”
She jumped, a shiver trembling through her. “I don’t want you to leave.”
I sighed as we pulled up to a stop in front of the airport. The driver left the Town Car and retrieved my bags from the trunk.
“It’ll only be for a few weeks,” I told her.
“Call me,” she demanded, her voice cracking. “Every night.”
I smiled, placing a hard kiss on her mouth. “I will. I promise you that.”
“I can come with you,” she offered.
I cupped her cheeks. “I wouldn’t get any work done.”
“And that would be a problem because...”
I chuckled, kissing her forehead. “My little vixen. I might just get desperate enough to fly you up there myself.”
“Hmm... maybe I should make you desperate,” she said, wrapping her arms around my neck.
My cock hardened. “God, I love you.”
Evvie grinned, crushing her mouth to mine, and licking her way between my lips.
I groaned, running my hands up her back. But as much as I wanted to continue, I had to go. I released her mouth, staring down at the woman I loved.
Kissing her chin, I trailed soft pecks down the length of her jaw. “I will make it so you dream of me every night.”
“I already do,” she whispered.
A wicked grin spread on my face. “You will be an aching, panting mess by the time I’m home.”
“How?”
I winked. “You’ll see.” I kissed her nose and opened the door. “I
have to go.”
She covered my face in kisses.
I stole one last peck before slipping from the vehicle. Grabbing my bags from the driver, I thanked him and headed into the airport.
It was only one month. One month away from the woman I loved.
After everything we had been through, it was our turn to be happy.
Evvie Neal was my one.
My only.
And I loved her unconditionally.
