The final event of the day was the parade, announcements of the winners in all contests, and the moment Madison had been waiting for. A moment one hundred years in the making.
With Brash at her side—Granny Bert refused to join her, insisting it was her time to shine—Madison made a brief but eloquent speech in front of the Tuesday/Thursday Clinic. Together with a smile, she and her husband tugged away the heavy tarp.
Against the rays of a golden afternoon sunset, the letters sparkled on the building, sure as gold.
Today was the dedication of the newly renamed and expanded Darwin Blakely Memorial Clinic. At long last, Juliet Randolph’s promise to her true love was kept, and his dream became reality.
Destiny had been fulfilled.
Note from Author:
Thank you for spending yet another adventure with me here in The Sisters! The fun and hijinks continue in Rose by Any Other Name, coming Aug. 2020.
They say that truth is stranger than fiction, and that just may be true.
* Executive Order 6102 is a true piece of our nation’s history. I found it so interesting/appalling, I also incorporated it into my award-winning Tangible Spirits. (Don’t let the cover scare you; Mac is more like a guardian angel than he is a ghost.) The book is full of historical facts and local lore, making it so much fun to research.
* I can’t take credit for Mr. Pruett’s entertaining imagination. His character is based on a real-life customer I had at my restaurant. The fantastical tales are compliments of Mr. D, who I fear suffered the same sad disease but who kept things interesting, nonetheless.
* Gold can, indeed, be found in almost every state in the US, but I sincerely hope there is no such thing as a Lost and Found Registry.
If you’ve forgotten how the diaries, and Gerald and Paul Adams fit in with the skeleton found at the Big House, check out Book 3, Stipulations and Complications. With Books 1-4 now available on audio, catching up on the backstory is easier than ever!
And, lastly, but still so very important, if you enjoyed this book, please say so in a brief review on Amazon. (And/or Goodreads and BookBub.) It means the world to me, helping with sales, rankings, and visibility. More importantly, it lets me know if I’m writing the stories you want to read.
