Something he said dawned on me. “Hey, can you see through your blood?”
He shrugged a shoulder. “Just through the link to where I put my blood. Like, say I place it on the wall or on a painting. I can only see through the area in that room. If they leave the room, I won’t be able to hear or see them.”
“Ahhh, I’m starting to understand how you work. That’s pretty fucking helpful, especially in the human world. You may find yourself busy once things settle more. I would suggest you get a job with the Society after this.”
“I thought they only wanted powerful demons.”
“Well, there—”
“Help me!!!” a piercing, feminine scream interrupted our conversation.
“Wait here, don’t move. I fucking mean it,” I warned with a pointed finger.
Tyson held both hands up, surrendering. “Hey, I won’t go nowhere, I promise.”
I didn’t bother to respond before running off to investigate the scream. The couple who’d been fucking on the car earlier was gone, as was the crowd that had gathered to watch. The streets were still busy, but not as active. I listened carefully, trying to hear if the woman was breathing or if she was moaning since the screaming stopped. I concentrated, and that was when I heard some whimpering. I teleported to an abandoned building where one demon was standing next to a couple lying on the ground. I knew what the scene was and I felt my blood boil.
The woman’s mouth was obstructed by her panties and the demon was ravaging her mercilessly while she cried. His companion was cheering him on and waiting his turn. I had seen more than enough. I raised my hand and projected my fire towards his partner, ashing him instantly. He didn’t even have time to scream. Most demons did die by fire, so it was pleasing to my eyes seeing him crumble into a heap of dust. His buddy hadn’t even realized that his friend was dead, too busy violating the woman. I teleported over to him, snatching him off her, to his utter shock.
“What the fuck!” he growled as he turned to look into my eyes. “Get your fucking hands off me.”
I didn’t bother to say anything to him at first. I turned to the woman. “Are you okay?” I asked her.
Tears and snot were running down her face as she pulled her own underwear from her mouth. Her lips were bruised, and one was split and bleeding. Her whole body trembled in fear and she could barely respond, but she shook her head.
“I’m going to take you to the hospital, but first, I’m going to kill this fucking demon,” I said.
It was then that I saw her hatred for her demon attacker come to the surface. Her mouth grew hard and her gaze became heated. “Kill him!” she snarled.
“Gladly,” I said. “But first.” The demon had been struggling in vain in my grip. I could tell that he was powerful and strong, but not stronger than me. He probably would be had I not been fully bonded with my mates. “You might want to look away,” I told her.
She shook her head as she tried to reassemble her torn clothing in an attempt to cover up her private parts. “I want to see him die,” she cried in anger. With each passing second, she seemed to find her strength.
The whole time I spoke to her, the demon was rattling off curses and threats, but none of that shit mattered to me. We both ignored his stupid ass. I could tell he wasn’t from Adriel’s army or Eighth-hell. Didn’t matter to me which hell he crawled out of. This fucker’s soul was about to fuel my body and increase my king’s powerbase.
His cock was still sticking out, albeit soft, and the fucker was covered in vaginal fluid and blood. He deserved what I was about to do to him. I adjusted my grip on his ass, holding him against my chest so he couldn’t get away. Even if he tried to teleport, he’d just take me with him. That was how things worked. And I would just bring him right back here. I reached down, gripping his cock, and I gave it a good tug, ripping that fucker off.
“Ahhhhhhh, fuck, you motherfucker!” the demon screamed, slinging more curses my way. Since coming out as gay and being a black man, I’d been called all kinds of names. I got called more when I became a lawyer, so I was immune to the insults. I tossed his severed cock to the ground with no regard. Blood covered my hand, but I didn’t care.
The woman’s eyes bulged, her mouth dropped open as she watched blood flow in copious amounts down the demon’s leg. I knew the scene had to be shocking to her, but she didn’t look away. The weapon he had used against her was now sitting in his friend’s pile of ash.
“I told you it was going to be tough to watch,” I said.
She swallowed hard and blinked a few times. “But I’m… I’m glad I saw it.”
Well, I liked that in her. It was time to end this now. I turned my back toward her and switched arms, so I was holding him with my bloody hand. I released my cock with my other hand, because I knew by feeding on him, I’d shoot and I didn’t want to mess up my pants. Still had more shit to do tonight. I opened my Agoto up, allowing it to feed. I sucked the demon’s green soul from his body and when it entered mine, it was divine. My body quaked and I came just like I knew I would. My spunk shot all over the demon’s pants and squirted on the floor. I was stuck in the moment until the soul was completely devoured. Ripples of pleasure coursed through me and I trembled in response before dropping the demon to the ground.
“You’re… you’re one of the good ones?” the woman asked.
I opened my eyes and tucked my dick back into my pants. “Yeah. I don’t kill innocent people.” I looked down at the dead demon and gave him the same treatment his friend got, turning him into a pile of ash. I did the same to the drops of my cum that had hit the floor. I didn’t like leaving my DNA at any crime scene.
“How do you all look so human?” she asked.
I sighed and turned toward her. “Watch that documentary that came out two months ago. It will explain a lot. It’s called ‘Demons Among Us’.” I walked over to her, holding out my clean hand. “Let me take you to the hospital.”
Very timidly, she reached out, taking my hand. I leaned down, scooping her up. Once our eyes met, I laid the whammy down. I made her forget about my feeding and what I looked like. All I wanted her to remember was that she was saved by a good demon and her attackers were killed. I teleported her to the hospital, dropping her off at the front door, then I teleported back to Tyson, who jumped when I popped back up next to him.
“Jesus!” He pressed his hand to his chest as he gave me an exasperated expression. “Where’d you go?”
“Had to save a woman who was being raped by a demon. Now, where were we?”
“You say that like it was nothing,” Tyson noted.
I shrugged. “Like I told you, it has been sheer chaos out here. Motherfuckers have been losing their damn minds while you were chilling, taking it easy.”
He looked down then, as if ashamed, but I wasn’t so sure he was. Did he feel guilty for only looking out for number one? Or was this all just show for my benefit? Only time would tell. I was glad to see he hadn’t tried to run, so maybe there was more to him than cowardice. And hell, maybe he wasn’t as much of a coward as he put on. Again, time would tell.
“So, where was I before I was interrupted?” I asked.
“You were telling me that I needed to join the Society, and I was under the impression they only wanted powerful demons,” he reminded me.
“Ahh, yes. There is a push for that, because they are taking on demons who are strong as hell, pun not intended. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a place for you, trust me. Besides, they have humans working for them as well.”
“I thought they just worked in the offices.”
I shook my head. “A lot of them are field agents, and they are paired with demons.”
“Seems like dangerous work. I’d rather work in the office if I do.”
This cowardly-assed motherfucker. I swore, the shit people said just astounded me sometimes. “I will recommend to King Adriel that you do join the Society. You can be very useful.” I said, letting him know I wasn’t giving his ass a choice. I didn’
t want people to die. I didn’t want decent demons to die. It was odd to think that demons could be decent, but Brian, Raphael, Mr. Cassian, myself, and many others I’d met proved that they could be. I wanted this world to find its footing again and things to go back to normal where eventually, my co-workers weren’t afraid of me. I missed the days when they didn’t look at me in fear.
“Listen, you can be so much more than just some bum in a bar. Help us make this world a better place,” I said, wanting to appeal to what I suspected was a good conscious.
He pursed his lips. “I do miss the way things were when I first got here. Sex is amazing, and I haven’t been getting it much these days.”
I cocked an eyebrow. “How much were you getting before?”
“Hey, don’t knock me because of my looks. I’m quite the charmer.”
“Yeah, okay. So, will you be something more?”
He sighed and nodded. “I guess I owe the humans for agreeing to keep the gate to hell open. So, yeah… if you think I can help, I’ll join the Society.”
“Good. For now, I have a place in mind where we can plant your blood.”
“Where?”
“A bar full of assholes, human and demon. It might get bloody in there, which will be perfect for you to plant your blood.”
He held up a hand. “Hold on, will I have to fight?”
I nodded. “Just go in there, order a beer, and find a place to take in the atmosphere. I’ll come in a little later and start some shit with you. All you have to do is go down with one punch. That shouldn’t be too hard.”
“I really don’t like pain.”
I rolled my eyes. “Don’t worry, I’ll hold back. Just sell the shit. Can you do that?”
He chuckled. “Yeah, that I can do.”
“Perfect. I’ll teleport us to a location and we’ll go from there.”
“Okay, let’s do this.”
I was happy he was agreeable to my plan. Perhaps, this was part of his charm. I just hoped he didn’t try to pull any stunts and escape because I really needed his help. I had to remember to give that bartender a fruit basket or something for pointing me in this Todakai’s direction. For now, I had a bar full of assholes to confront. This night might be picking up.
Chapter Eight
Brian
Lord Dakkar was waiting for me like he said he would. His suitcase was by his side as he leaned up against a light pole. Damn, he was fine as fuck. As much as I loved both Andre and Raphael, I couldn’t help the fact that I wouldn’t mind fucking Dakkar. I mean, he had an air about him that commanded attention… and desire. He and Lord Silas were just dripping with sexual intensity and they knew it. Augustus was what Dakkar was, a blood-drinking demon. And he was sexy as fuck, but his aura was nothing compared to Dakkar’s. I guessed that was because Dakkar was the first demon of his kind, so he got all the juice.
Learning about Lords and how they were made got me to wondering how their lines grew. I knew Augustus was forged in hell, but how? Did Dakkar make him and then set him free to live on this plane again? I knew from Augustus how more Nostera demons could be made. But how did other demons get made from other Lords’ lines. Like how did Daylen get made from Silas’s line? Nasini made Ade the same way Raphael made me and I made Andre. That mystery was solved. I’d been a demon for less than a year and I felt like I knew nothing really.
“Are you going to stand there staring at me all night, or are we going to go to Chicago?” Dakkar asked me.
“Yeah, sorry, Lord Dakkar,” I said as I walked over to him.
“Just call me Dakkar when we are alone. No need to be so formal unless an impression needs to be made,” he said, then pushed himself off the light post.
“All right. So, are you teleporting us, or am I doing the honors?”
He smirked, and I’d be damned if his sex appeal didn’t just shoot up ten notches. “I’ll teleport.” With that, he wrapped his arm around me and grabbed his suitcase. I felt as if all the molecules in my body began to tingle as he teleported us through time and space. It didn’t hurt, but I was aware of the sensation that left me feeling high, and when we landed, he had to steady me. “Gain your footing,” he said.
I nodded and had to shake my head from the cobwebs. “That felt weird as hell.”
“I travel faster than you. Can you stand now?” he asked.
I had my sea legs again, so to speak, so I nodded. “Yeah, I’m good now.”
Dakkar released me and I looked around to see where we’d landed. It was a hotel room, a suite to be exact, and an expensive looking one at that. “Where are we?”
“Victoria Hotel, penthouse.”
“Well, that sounds costly. I hope you aren’t expecting me to pitch in,” I said, warning him that I didn’t have the funds.
He chuckled. “I never asked you to. I like to travel and live in style, because I like to indulge in everything this plane has to offer.”
“That explains the suit. So, when do we see the queen?” I asked as I put my suitcase on the floor.
“Settle in for now, then we can feed. Afterward, we will visit the queen.”
“Okay, but after we speak to her, then what?”
“Once we speak to the queen, I’ll have a clear understanding of where to go next.”
“Why do we need to speak to her?”
“Because finding Mahmet is a priority. It won’t be easy, because of his ability. The queen has information on something I’m curious to know more about. Do you understand now?”
“Not really, but I guess I’ll learn more after we speak to her. So, how the fuck are we going to find someone who can see us coming?”
“With hopes that we can catch him off guard, which is why two specific teams have been assigned with one goal in mind. But along the way, we kill those loyal to him.”
“You have to forgive me, but I don’t see how that’s any different than what we’ve been doing.”
“Were you assigned to find him before or just kill demons who were wreaking havoc? Now that a lot of that has abated, what now?” Dakkar asked.
It was true, the past two weeks had been pretty quiet on the demon front. Mainly, it had been humans acting like fools and taking advantage of the carnage created by the demons we killed. “Okay, so explain it to me.”
He nodded. “Now that those demons have gone into hiding and recruiting, finding them has become more difficult. Our king cannot expose himself as long as Katashniel is hidden. There are traps set up all around for him, so that is what I and other Lords have been destroying, which was no easy feat. So, if you’ve been wondering what we have been doing, his strongest soldiers, that was it. Nasini, Rohan, and Vahiel never leave his side. He draws on their power to maintain his spell to stay hidden. They have not been able to do the jobs I and the other Lords have done. We are stretched thin, his Lords, and we can’t afford to be killed. You were paired to help protect me and Raphael was paired to help protect Oria as we track down Mahmet.”
I swallowed, because now a lot of shit was starting to piece itself together. Questions I had were being answered. “So, I’m like your bodyguard?”
He shrugged. “You are my back-up. You are still expected to do your job. We are partnered in that regard as well. I can handle myself, but just in case things get sketchy, it’s best to have help, wouldn’t you agree?”
I nodded. “Yeah, I do. So, you sound like you have a plan. What is it?” I realized I didn’t know half the shit I thought I knew.
“Mahmet may be able to see his future. But there’s also a spell being used to keep him and Katashniel hidden. It’s the same one our king is using, which relies on the strength of drawing from Lords. Adriel is drawing from three of us, and Katashniel is only drawing from Mahmet, but it’s still holding up just as strong. Which lets me know that there is a demonic spell caster, probably a few of them, that are helping to keep the spell intact. We need to find those demons and kill them. That would weaken the spell and expose their auras. We will be able
to locate them then, and it won’t matter if Mahmet can see us coming. We’ll know where they are at all times and then it will be only a matter of time,” Dakkar said as he unpacked his suit case, putting shirts in the drawer.
I was still standing there in silence, trying to absorb everything he just told me. “How long have you all known this? And why wasn’t this mentioned at the meeting?”
Dakkar walked to the closet and began hanging up his suits. “We’ve always known that Katashniel was using Mahmet to stay hidden. What we discovered about two months ago was that Mahmet was not enough to sustain the power of that spell. He is using the power of other demon spell casters, and he has power spots that have been concealed all over the world. They have formed power points in the form of a triangle to protect Katashniel, and he is in the middle.”
“Do you know where the power spots are?”
“I suspect one is here in Chicago, we just have to find it. That means, I have to feed from the right demons and humans that could lead me to where one is. When I kill that demon, I’ll know what he knows.”
“Then we can just knock the rest out, right?”
“It will not be that easy. Remember, Mahmet and Katashniel know what I can do. I seriously doubt they will have these spell-casting demons in cahoots with each other. Everyone will be compartmentalized.”
“Shit, I really wish this fucking mess was something we could have avoided.” I didn’t want to give up hope, but it had already been three months and I still didn’t feel like we were getting any closer to taking out Katashniel.
“This is something Katashniel’s been planning for a while, it would seem. He’s been hurt, lost a lot of demons, which is always good. We’ve lost many on our side as well. That isn’t widely known for two reasons. We need those on our side to keep their morale up, and staying focused on specific tasks helps in that regard. The other reason being, if one chose to betray our king, we don’t need them telling our enemy what we know. Therefore, keeping a few in the know, as you all say, is wise. Fear of dying tends to sway demons more than it does humans. Not all demons are prone to want to wage war, but all have been asked to take one side or the other.”
