His other hand still gently played with her body, sending a sweet signal, everywhere. She licked her lips and said, "Wh... wow."
A moment later she felt her silk rip off her body, leaving her naked and exposed.
She reached out and touched Navid's strong abs as he sat straight up. She began to sit, but he turned the vibrator higher.
Instead she arched, and he suckled her breast. Her body screamed yes and she lost the ability to think. She was his—heart, body and soul. "Yes."
The intensity of his lips on her breasts and body combined with the slow buzz inside her began to send her into tremors of need. She somehow said, "Mmhmm."
As a result he turned up the vibrator until she couldn't do anything but respond. Her entire body became a frenzied pleasure where all she could do was moan.
Somehow she was aware that he’d turned his attention to her second breast, but she was lost in the crescendo of waves her body rode.
Without warning, he pulled the vibrator out of her and reached up to take off the silk mask. Their gazes met and she saw desire in his blue eyes. She nodded and he pushed his hard organ deep within her.
He filled her fully and much deeper than the machine. Again her body ached as he kissed her forehead. "I love you Elle."
Wow. She never suspected this would happen, ever.
"I love you too." Her heart swelled and her hands traced his body. "What changed your mind?"
"I realized I agreed with Scarlett that you make me happy."
"Don’t tell her that. She’ll be hard to be friends with if she gets smug."
"I will only confide in you."
"Me too." Then she was propelled over the edge, again and again while Navid joined her.
The sound of the ocean in the distance woke her up. Elle had no idea she had even fallen asleep, but last night she'd orgasmed countless times.
The sun would soon rise as yellow droplets of light appeared on the lightening ocean. She turned and let her body press against the strong shoulder of the man she loved. She sighed to herself and wondered out loud, "Where did you go last night?"
"Wait. I bought you something. I’ll go get it." Navid jumped out of bed, completely naked. She blinked as she watched him head toward the door.
Sanity returned to her slowly as she called out, "You don't..." He had closed the door behind him so she said to the empty room, "have to."
The last thing she truly cared about was presents. Navid mattered more. She loved him and he loved her. A second later, the bedroom door opened and he slipped back inside. She reached out for him and massaged his back as he sat next to her in bed. "Navid, you didn't have to leave our bed."
"I wanted to." He plopped the bag between her legs.
She picked up the handle, but instead leaned closer to him. "So what did you get at the jewelry store?"
He unhooked her hand and then directed her to open the bag. She felt two boxes as he said, "Two things. I know how much your mother's necklace means to you and in my culture jewelry is important."
She picked both of the boxes up and shook them. Jewelry? "Well that makes me like your culture even more."
She opened the first box and stared at the beautiful gold and diamond earrings with blue sapphires that helped shape tiny butterflies. "These match my necklace."
He nodded. "I wasn't sure what to get so that's one. The other I picked out because I thought it would be good for you."
She opened the black velvet box with the satin lining, in love with the modern cut square diamond surrounded by gold and an intricate rose design. This was clearly an engagement ring. She met his intense gaze. He didn't believe he'd be a good husband…she’d heard him say so. A buzz pulsed in her veins as she dared to hope. "What does this mean?"
He lifted her hand, kissing the tips of her fingers. "It means I'm yours, Elle. I have been since you walked into my house. You’re going to have to decide what you want from me because I can't live without you. If you want to get married, I'll stand at your side forever."
"So I decide?" She pointed at her heart while holding the ring.
He nodded. "You and Margo are the only people in my heart that matter."
The image of standing at an altar in a white dress beside Navid filled her with longing. She handed him the ring and her finger to put it on. "Yes. Let’s set a date for next June. That's a while away. I think you ought to at least meet my brothers and parents before we make this official, but I would like nothing else than to be your wife."
He slid the diamond on her ring finger and she realized that with Navid, she had a place and a home that would be filled with love. She hugged him and then he kissed her as the sun dawned over the ocean, making everything bright blue. He traced the sunlight across her skin and said, "You brought light into my life, Elle."
Almost two weeks later, Elle sat on a beautiful blanket spun of silk and cotton that could double for a carpet as she set out some food from the basket.
Next to them, Navid threw the ball with Margo and the sun beat down on the spring day.
Scarlett's voice was first to pierce the air as she said, "So, you have a basket?"
Elle looked over to her and waved at Navid's entire family, including his cousin Roxy and her new fiancé. She waved to them and set the next dish in the center. Their blanket was made for twenty people at least. She waved at all of them and said, "Please join us."
Olivia came and placed four bottles of wine down on the blanket that they brought, along with a few glasses. "This is a gorgeous park. Is everyone here Iranian today?"
Elle shook her head no and pointed. "I think that's a Girl Scout group in the next tent. The one after that I think is a women's club." They’d chosen this venue because TB Park was next to a lake and Navid liked the view.
Another voice called Salam from behind. Elle turned around and saw Leila walking toward Navid, who stopped throwing the ball. Leila nodded at all of them. "Navid. Margo. Elle, it's good to see you all here."
Navid put his arm around Tom’s shoulder. "Hey, Leila. This is my father and my entire family."
"I'm happy for you. Have a good picnic. My family is a few places down if you want to visit for tea, any of you." Leila continued on the path and walked away.
Navid winked at Margo who then went to her grandmother. Navid joined Elle in the center. Olivia immediately asked, "So why are we having a picnic, Navid? What's the significance?"
Navid poured her a glass of wine and then offered it to her and his American family while he answered, "The thirteenth day after New Year’s is considered a very negative day. To combat the negativity and darkness that might come from being inside, we go outside and enjoy nature and the world provided to us."
"According to my calendar," Scarlett said, "it's a picnic two weeks after Easter?"
Navid's face paled as he placed more glasses on the tray to offer his guests. "Easter and New Years are not the same thing at all! Though it's argued that my people believed in one God before the Jews, but that's a whole debate I don't want to get into. I'm sure traditions mixed over the millennia. Let's just enjoy the park and the lake."
Now that every guest had a glass of wine Elle slipped Navid a glass of his Persian chia seed drink made of rosewater, saffron, lemon, peppermint, sugar, water and chia seeds—she poured more for herself and Margo. Once they had their special drink, which was sweet without being overdone, she toasted her glass with her family.
Olivia offered to clink glasses with her wine and said, "Let's also talk about your wedding! I'm hoping some of that beautiful sofreh you and Margo built are part of the wedding traditions."
Elle met Navid's gaze and she smiled as she sipped her drink. She then winked at him, and turned to Olivia. "Different, but similar. I'm going to create a handout for my friends to understand the symbolism. I've been researching."
Scarlett then added, "As long as you two are happy, the rest will fall into place and whatever happens, happens. But I’m glad my instincts about you two were s
pot on."
Elle laughed. It was true. Who wouldn’t like having a picnic in the spring for the rest of her life? She sipped from her glass and took Navid's hand. He was her perfect match and she promised to be the best mom she could be as she stood next to a man she loved more than anyone else in the world.
