Jon's Crazy Head-Boppin' Mystery Page 20

by A J Sherwood

Donovan came out the front door, calling back inside to Garrett, “Did I miss anything?”

I could hear Garrett calling back to him, voice fainter, “I’ll do another sweep!”

Satisfied, he continued toward me. He wore a bright smile, his lines singing with happiness and…victory? Well, considering the uphill battle he’d had with me about moving in, that emotion rather made sense. A bounce in his stride, he came to me, looking the truck over as he moved. “We all ready?”

Shutting the tailgate firmly, I nodded. “Ready. Although I feel like we’ll have to cull my closets in order to make proper room for all your stuff.”

Looking over the full bed, not to mention the load in my HMMWV, Donovan acknowledged ruefully, “We might. It’s funny, I didn’t think I had this much stuff.”

“You never do until you have to pack it up,” I agreed.

He wrapped an arm around my waist and asked seriously, “You still nervous?”

“I’m nervous about a lot of things, but not you. Not us.” I grinned up at him. Damn, it felt liberating to say that. I even meant every word. “Patience is always rewarded, I guess. My psyche finally understands that you’re entirely too stubborn to quit anything once you’ve started it. I’ve decided to trust in that stubbornness. You want a lifetime with me. You’ll make sure it happens.”

“Come hell or high water,” he agreed, grinning right back at me. “Come on. Let’s go home, okay? We can unload all this and then spend the rest of the week unpacking.”

I laughed against his chest. “That shouldn’t sound the least bit appealing.”

  “But it does.”

Raising up on tiptoes, I kissed him gently. “It really, really does.”

  Dear Reader,

Your reviews are more important than words can express. Reviews directly impact sales and book visibility, which means the more reviews I have, the more sales I see. The more books I sale, the more I can write and focus on producing books that you love to read. You see how that math works out? The best possible support you can provide is to give an honest review, even if it’s just clicking those stars to rate a book! (I won’t even complain it if 4 stars, honest.)

Thank you for all of your support. See you in the next book!

AJ’s mind is the sort that refuses to let her write one project at a time. Or even just one book a year. She normally writes fantasy under a different pen name, but her aforementioned mind couldn’t help but want to write for the LGBTQ+ genre. Fortunately, her editor is completely on board with this plan.

In her spare time, AJ loves to devour books, eat way too much chocolate, and take regular trips. She's only been outside of the United States once, to Japan, and loved the experience so much that she firmly intends to see more of the world as soon as possible. Until then, she'll just research via Google Earth and write about the worlds in her own head.

If you’d like to join her newsletter to be notified when books are released, and get behind the scenes about upcoming books, you can join her NEWSLETTER here, or email her directly at [email protected] and you’ll be added to the mailing list. If you’d like to interact with AJ more directly, you can socialize with her on various sites.
