Sin Page 29

The day that Grace was born could have been my darkest day. I was walking the thin line for a heartache I’m not sure I would’ve been able to come back from. The possibility that I might have lost both of my girls brings an enormous amount of dread to my life. There would be no way I would have survived. I wouldn’t have wanted to. I would have taken the blade to my own neck without a second thought. That’s how much I love those two. My life isn’t worth living without either of them.

Grace has thrived. Her little body is growing in leaps and bounds and soon, twelve hours to be exact, we will be able to bring our baby home. I thought the greatest gift Savannah could have given me was to name her after my sister, but seeing my name on her birth certificate blew me out of the park. She is mine, my family. My world.

Now there’s just one more thing that I needed to do to keep my peace of mind. “Meredith.” I call from behind her.

She turns around, instantly shrinking away from me. She still fears me, good. I need that fear to live within her.

“What do you want?” Her eyes dart around, probably looking for Lick. He did a number on her. I'm not proud of it, but it had to be done and it would be done again if my family were threatened. I noticed that her hair is styled close to her face, probably to cover the half-missing ear that Lick cut from her head. He is a sick fuck, but his talents come in handy when we have a job to do. Our bounty business isn’t successful out of luck. We have talent.

“I’m only here for reassurance.” I tell her.

“I’m not going to say anything. I’ll never talk. My lips will never mention anything that happened.”

“I’m glad, but here.” I hand her a manila envelope filled with her son’s transgressions. Sex trade, drugs, trafficking, you name it, he was involved. I even threw in some Mexican big wigs just to prove a point. If she thinks of talking and word gets to them, she’ll think what Lick did was child’s play.

“I have copies; some of our connections have copies. Our sources within certain media outlets have copies with instructions that if any of the Devil’s Fury is brought down for the death of your son it will all be made public. The Redding name, the millions will all be worthless. Do you understand me?”

  “Yes.”

  “One more thing.”

  “What?”

“I want five million dollars wired into this account for one Sienna Grace Sinclair.” I hand her the paper with the account number on it. “I don’t plan on using any of it since I provide for my family, but I want an insurance policy that if something happens to me or her mother, she will be taken care of. Surely you won’t miss five measly million dollars, now will you?”

“No, no of course not. I’ll take care of it by this afternoon.”

“Good. And if you don’t, I’ll send Lick to pay you a visit. I know he’s just dying for another taste.”

I wink and turn my back on her and my past. I look ahead to my future, my family and the life I deserve to live.
