He picked it up and looked into the crazed eyes of Saligia.

“Now tis’ I that holds your head in my hands like a trophy.”

He held the head high for all to see. “Behold, the Slayer has brought justice to us common folk. Thine one true enemy is no more. Let peace be restored amongst you. I will return to the depths of Hades with her, where she will suffer an eternity for her wicked sins.”

Clarisse entered the circle and met Amducias in the centre. Holding her in his embrace, he said. “Thank you. You have given me the chance to finally rest in peace. You have served them well.” He looked around at all the supernatural’s that stood silent on the outside.

“Your sisters will rejoice in your victory, and soon you can sleep once more my old friend,” he told her.

He walked over to Kara and took her by the wrist, holding her hand high above her head. “Sent by the gods to serve and protect all living things, I present you with your Slayer!”

Cheers broke out as he paraded Kara around for all to see. Then he stood alone in the centre and held Saligia’s greying head high in the air.

“Victory is ours!” he shouted, as a large bolt of lightning came down from the sky, splitting and striking both his and Saligia’s head, and with a flash they were gone. A sense of peace blanketed them.

‘You needed the hair of the new slayer to bring back the old one didn’t you Clarisse?” Kara asked.

“It was the final element needed to complete the spell,” she smiled, “Besides, you’re too big to smack and you needed to be punished for being such a smart ass!”

Kara looked shocked at the woman’s sudden change in demeanour, then laughed, giving the older woman an embrace filled with both gratitude and respect.

“Oh fuck, hell no! What in God’s name is that?” Pearce asked, as he tried to tuck Casey safely behind him in a true fatherly fashion.

A ball of light from within the woodlands began to glow. It got bigger and brighter as it grew closer. Everyone shielded their eyes until a familiar voice came from the light.

“Do not be afraid. Glory is upon you.”

  It was Damon.

“Calliope, I have come to take you home. Your work here is done. It is time for you to sleep. Your sisters await you. Come, take my hand and together we will return to the Promised Land.”

“What? You’re not back? You’re just gonna drop in and take one of us and leave? No hello? Nothing?” Casey asked.

“Not one of you Casey, one of us,” he told her as he extended his hand for Calliope to take.

She looked around for Andreas who offered her his arm, and together they walked toward the light.

“Now just wait a cotton pickin’ minute son!” Pearce intervened, “You’re just gonna take her without a good-bye or anythin’ just like when you left?”

“Calliope’s work here is done. It is time for her to be returned to her loved ones. They have waited long enough,” Damon explained, as he too turned toward the light. Just as he was about to disappear into the glow, he turned once more.

“Captain Pearce? You have a choice to make.”

“Oh yeah? What’s that son?” he asked.

“Your work too is done. You may come with me now, or wait until your natural term is up, the choice is yours,” Damon offered.

“What’s on the other side?” he asked.

“I am, Tony. I’ve been waiting. They promised I wouldn’t have to wait long,” Rose appeared in the centre of the glow.

“Rose!” he took a step closer.

Casey tugged at his arm, tears streaming down her face. He looked down at her as she spoke.

“Don’t leave me too?” she begged.

Damon came over and wiped her tears from her face.

The Captain is sick Casey. If he stays, he will not stay for long, and his final weeks will be filled with pain and misery. If he comes now, he will be spared all of that. You all will be,” he explained.

Casey looked up at Pearce, “What’s he saying?”

“It’s true Case. Just before I lost Rose, the last time I was in hospital in fact, they found a shadow on my lung. Told me it was terminal. I’m dying kiddo.”

He turned to Kara, “Take care of her will ya?”

Kara nodded and took Casey in her arms, as Pearce too entered the light to be with his beloved Rose. Dominic embraced his brother. “Peace be with you,” Damon said to him.

“And you my brother. Until we meet again,” Dominic replied.

Damon vanished into the bright light and then the glow was gone.

  Chapter Twenty-Four

Dominic stood with Saligia’s ashes as the witches carried Chelsea into the woods.

“Where to from here?” Ray asked.

“Well, I guess the city is safe again. The government has closed down our operation anyway, so I suppose you are free to do and go anywhere you please,” he responded.

  “What about you?” Brandy asked.

  Dominic looked over at Sarah.

“I’m all she has now. With peace among us restored, I think I’ll go and live in the coven. There is no need for me to stay at headquarters any more. I never really liked the city anyway.” He smiled as he handed his keys to Casey. “What about you young Ray? What do you have planned?” he asked.

“Brandy’s always talked about going to Paris. I guess travel is high on the agenda,” he laughed.

“I can just imagine sitting on the very tip of the Eiffel Tower at night, where no one has ever sat before, just looking out at the city,” Brandy added.

“And what about you two?” Dominic asked Casey and Kara.

Just then a woman appeared, “My name is Loca. Some know me as red riding hood. I am leader of the wolf pack that lives in these woods. I have come to offer you haven. You are welcome to bide with us.”

“She is one of us,” another voice announced, “I am Draco, leader of the birds of prey. It is fitting that you come with us,” he announced.

“As you wish,” Loca bowed her head.

Kara stood in front of Casey and held both her hands up to her lips.

“I love you, I will always love you, but things are different now.”

“Don’t you leave me too?” Casey’s eyes welled.

“I will always watch over you my love, but I’m going to live forever. In the state that I’m in, I won’t be able to grow old with you. We won’t have children together. I will feel helpless when you grow weak. It’s not fair to either of us,” she told her.

“She’s right human. She belongs with us. She is royalty and should be treated as such,” Draco interrupted.

“Fuck off you! You don’t know anything,” Casey snapped at him.

The moon was still full, but the sky was beginning to fade. It was time for decisions and goodbyes.

  “I have to go Casey.”

After one last, long kiss, she spread her wings and took flight with Draco. Casey turned in every direction, then realised she was alone.

  *****

Casey had moved into the old headquarters. She’d done several renovations to make it more homely. She’d turned the dungeon into a wine cellar, which she visited often since the team had dispersed. It had been months since Saligia was sent to Hades and everything had changed forever. She spent her days wondering if it was all for nothing. She’d lost everyone, and was actually beginning to wish Saligia was still around. At least she would have had company.

‘You don’t mean that,’ Kara’s voice entered her mind.

‘Kara? Is that you?’ she thought.

“In the flesh,” she announced, as she walked in the front door, dangling her own set of keys in her hand.

Casey ran down the stairs and into her waiting arms, “I’ve missed you.”

And I’ve missed you too baby,” she replied.

“I can’t live without you. We need to find a way to make this work. I love you.”

“There is a way,” Casey told her.

  “Where there’s a wi
ll, there’s always a way,” Kara said, smiling.

  “Turn me!”

  “What?”

“Turn me!” Casey insisted, “I know I won’t be a shifter or a god or anything, but at least I’ll be able to keep up with you when you run, and we can live forever together.”

  “Are you sure?” she asked.

“I’ve never been more certain of anything in my life.”

She began kissing and undressing Kara, who lifted her to the loft and began making love to her. She kissed and licked Casey’s throat, and, as Casey was about to reach her orgasm, Kara drew her fangs…
