The Slice Page 21

by Greg Taylor

“Aw, man, I can’t believe my mom is letting Stacey’s little brat friends stay over. They’re gonna keep me up the entire night!”

Annabel smiled at Toby’s little rant, then hesitated by the front door after Toby had joined Strobe inside the shop. Even though the movie crowd was completely gone by now, the battle on the screen across the street continued between the humans and the underground monsters.

The Tremors “graboids” definitely bore some similarities to the dekayi serpents the KP crew had just dealt with. Watching the movie—alone now under the awning—Annabel found herself thinking about all of the incredible Calanthe moments that had been packed into such a short amount of time, from her arrival to her recent departure. Memories to last … well, a lifetime, really.

Annabel took a final look down the street. A sudden shiver swept through her. She turned, opened the door with the KP monster mascot stenciled on it, and went into Killer Pizza, the bright lights of the shop a warm, welcome beacon in the dark, rainy night.
