Corbin stalked slowly towards her and Quinn, feeling suddenly like prey, turned and ran the last few steps to the small bedroom. She made it two feet into the room before he was on her, and she went sailing through the air to land on her butt on the center of the bed. Once again, he had her caged between his powerful arms as he braced himself above her on the bed, but instead of kissing her on the mouth, he paused, staring at her chest.
“Quinn, I want to go slow for you, you know that right? But your tits are right here in front of me, and they are so perfect that I want to eat them. Quinn, I want to eat you.”
Before she could even moan in response, he opened his mouth wide and sucked in as much of her left breast as he could fit into his mouth, one hand pinching the nipple on the other, deft fingers rolling it and tweaking it into a hard little nub. He moaned around the nipple in his mouth, and that was too much. The sound of him enjoying his way around her breasts was too much for Quinn to hang on to her sanity, and she knew from her own years of pleasing herself that she wasn’t going to last long.
She slid her hand into the waistband of her panties, the cotton already soaked and useless as a barrier. She moved one finger over her wetness and shuddered, she was going to be gone in seconds. Corbin paused from bathing her chest with his tongue and looked down at her hand, eyes almost crossing at the view of her touching herself.
“Oh, we can explore this avenue another time, woman,” he breathed against her skin, “and we most certainly will, but right now, I want to be the one to give you this. Me. My hands and my mouth are going to make you scream, and I want to hear it. Give your voice to me.”
With those words burning hot in Quinn’s ears, he slid down the bed, and before she could even move her hand, he took it in his and brought it to his mouth. He slid the finger that had just been coated in her own wetness inside his own mouth and used his tongue to wash her clean. Quinn saw stars on the outer edges of her vision. It wasn’t until he slid even lower and placed his mouth hard against the small triangle of soaked cotton that covered her most sensitive spot that Quinn exploded. Waves of pleasure rocked her body as he licked her through her panties, sending her into passionate convulsions and filling the cabin with her screams.
He hadn’t even been inside her yet, and she couldn’t control herself. Was this normal for other people or was it special just for them? Quinn was beyond caring. What she did care about was the beautiful man in front of her who had all of his clothes on, and she was still in her panties. Kicking the offending piece of clothing off and across the room, Quinn stalked across the bed on her knees until she was kneeling in front of Corbin, still standing at the foot of the bed. With a boldness she didn’t even know she possessed but had probably been brought on by the screaming orgasm she had just experienced, Quinn rasped in a voice she didn’t even recognize,
“Take off your clothes.”
That statement must have done something to Corbin because he responded in a voice very similar to hers, breathless and heavy,
“You do it.”
Having someone boss her around in bed had to be the single most erotic thing Quinn had ever had happen to her. Even in the romance novels that she had read, she didn’t know that it would be someone dominant that would completely do her in. She was breathless with desire; she would do whatever he asked.
Hands steadier than she felt, Quinn peeled his dusty black t-shirt up and off of his body, pausing to smell his woodsy scent on it before she dropped it on the floor next to the bed. Then she slowly undid the snap on Corbin’s jeans and pulled the zipper down. The metal made a hissing sound as she pulled, and since he wasn’t wearing a belt, the jeans fell to the floor with a thud. His charcoal gray boxer briefs were molded to the firm globes of his ass, and there was a spot of wetness at the front where his body was already telling her he was ready. The sight of it made her mouth water, and she slowly peeled back the waist on his briefs and let his manhood spring free. Quinn knew her own body very well. She had needs, just like anyone else did, and just because she hadn’t had sex before didn’t mean she wasn’t interested or didn’t satisfy herself. That being said, she wasn’t prepared for just how big Corbin was up close.
Her skin was on fire, and she wanted to touch every bit of his naked skin with every bit of hers. Even with her newfound boldness, she couldn’t speak the words for the things she wanted to do, so she bit her lip and lovingly laid a little kiss across the tip of the most swollen and aching part of him. When she licked the salty drop that was left on her lips, Corbin went boneless in front of her. Once again, she found herself bouncing bottom first on the mattress, but this time she was pressed down into the soft blankets by the full weight of Corbin’s body above her.
He buried his face into her breasts again for a minute before coming up for air.
“I want to be inside you, Quinn. I need to, but I won’t do it unless you say yes. Say yes. Quinn, tell me you are ready.” His voice had somehow deepened by an octave, and his words were like an extra set of hands stroking her already heated flesh.
She tried to grab him by the shoulders, but he was unmoving. He really needed her vocal approval before doing the thing they both wanted more than anything else. She was going to have to get over whatever was making her so shy and say the words.
“Please, Corbin,” she whispered, and clearing her throat, she fought to get the words out that they both needed to hear, “I want you inside of me. Please.”
She wasn’t even done talking before he had her legs spread wide, and the hottest and hardest part of him was sliding slowly into the warmest and wettest part of her. There was a brief pause, but no pain like most people associate with their first time, and he closed his eyes and groaned as he filled her up all the way. It felt amazing, but he took her breath completely away when he began to rock into her gently, and her world exploded again. Over and over he slid into her, each time with a little more force as their bodies slapped together, and her orgasm washed over her in hues of rose and gold. Lights of pale pink to deep fuchsia danced in front of her eyes, and by the time she could breathe again and the shock waves disappeared, he was yelling out his own release as he spilled hot and deep inside of her.
Something happened, they both felt it. The tenuous bond snapped into place like a steel cable, and she felt so close to Corbin that she couldn’t believe they had ten years of distance between them. It didn’t matter that it was their first time together or their first times at all, they were meant to be together as a bonded pair. The moment was so beautiful she could have cried from it, and Corbin was looking affected as well. He rose from the bed and disappeared into the bathroom, Quinn could hear the hot water running. He returned a moment later with a warm washcloth and proceeded to show her how much he worshiped her body again by cleaning her gently, all over. When she was clean but still naked, he looked at her solemnly and whispered,
“I saw something out the window that I think you should see, but I don’t want you to be afraid.”
Heart still beating a mile a minute from the explosive orgasm they had shared, Quinn allowed him to lead her by the hand to the large window that took up most of the wall in the small bedroom. Quinn gasped at what she saw.
Outside the cabin, covering every bit of surrounding forest floor, and yes, even still falling down from the trees were flower petals in every shade of pink imaginable, from the palest blush to the deepest magenta. It was as if the forest had been covered in a winter of pink-hued petals, and it was absolutely breathtaking.
“I did this?” Quinn whispered in shock, hands starting to shake where they clutched the window frame.
“You did,” Corbin said proudly. “It’s absolutely beautiful. Look, Quinn, these are our feelings, and they are nothing to be ashamed or afraid of. Your power is gold and roses. Quinn, you are amazing. You are mine.”
Quinn didn’t know how long she stood there, unclothed and staring out the window before Corbin managed to coax her back into bed. He proceeded to show her again, w
ith his hands and his mouth repeatedly throughout the rest of the night, how important she was to him. They reached ninety-nine kisses before falling asleep in a tangle of legs and sheets while the moon shone white over the myriad of pink petals that coated the ground. Gold and roses, the power to love and the power to grow. The bond strengthened while the couple slept, and the moon shone brightly down on them. But on the edge of the forest, something evil stirred at the increased burst of power.
Corbin had woken up too early and had to leave a still sleeping Quinn too soon to get things done around the lodge. Morning chores were morning chores, and chode face William was a no call, no show. His phone had beeped at the butt crack of dawn with a text message from Rose, and neither she nor Corbin had been able to get even a message back from the crab ass. Corbin hoped he was ok because he really wanted to punch that guy in the face for not coming to work and making Corbin leave his lady love tangled in the still warm sheets. He couldn't even make coffee because there was not a speck of food or beverage to be had in Quinn’s cabin. Things had been nonstop since she got to the lodge, and she hadn’t been able to get to the grocery store. There were still no guests scheduled at the cabins for a bit, so Corbin had quickly finished up William’s list of shit to do and then headed into town. He didn’t know what Quinn liked to eat and drink, but she had seemed to like his cooking just fine, so he would pick up some staples at the store for her, and maybe a bottle of wine to celebrate, and surprise her later in the day.
The grocery store was tiny, more of a pit stop than an actual full service, but it was only a half hour drive down from the mountain and not the hour that a larger chain store would be. Corbin could find what he needed here, plus he really liked the older couple that ran the store, and even though groceries were a bit more expensive here than if Corbin would have driven the hour out of his way, he was happy to support local business owners. They ran a small store with necessities, and they had a liquor license. That was a win-win in Corbin’s book.
The heat of the late spring, early summer day rolled off Corbin’s back as he entered the store and let the air conditioning wash over him. He wiped his feet on the mat in front of the double sliding doors and waved to Mrs. Henderson as he walked past the service counter and grabbed a shopping buggy. Of course, the last buggy in the lane was the one with the wonky wheel, and of course, it was the one that Corbin grabbed. He had wrestled with this particular demon before though, and he found that if he pushed a little to the left while moving forward, it would keep to a mostly straight path. He made his way down the dairy aisle first and grabbed some milk, eggs, cheddar cheese on the block, and a couple cartons of yogurt. At the deli, he picked up some sliced ham and turkey, not knowing her preference, and stopped at the butcher counter for some steaks, bacon, a roast, and some chicken breasts. By the time he picked out all of the produce he had thought she might need, he realized there was an entirely full cart of groceries, and he wasn’t even finished yet.
He couldn’t even find it in himself to be embarrassed, honestly. He was shopping for his woman, and he was pretty confident that she wouldn’t be going back after her two-week stay was up. He said a silent prayer to the romance authors whose books graced the shelf in his small cabin for every good move he made last night. He would die before he told anyone about his weakness for paranormal romance, but those stories were the closest that he could get to an education on pleasing a woman besides porn, and Corbin shuddered at the thought. He remembered when he happened upon that on accident when studying the internet, greedily slurping up all pop culture information he could find. Best leave those types of things to the people who enjoy that niche.
Besides the incredible lovemaking that was beyond Corbin’s wildest dreams, he had also felt the bond solidify when they had joined together. He had witnessed Quinn’s joy in the gentle shower of pink petals and the knowledge that her power could create beautiful things. It wasn’t the scary, angry energy that she had thought it was all those years. Her power was just reacting to her environment and feelings, and her feelings had been pretty clear last night. What they had shared was special, and Corbin wanted to celebrate the connection they had made.
He decided against the wine and made a beeline over to the bakery instead. He didn’t even know if Quinn liked wine, maybe she didn’t drink at all, but no one turned down fresh baked goods. If he had more time, he would bake her something, but he didn’t have the luxury of time today. At the counter, he picked out two loaves of bread, one for the counter and one for the freezer, and then looked at the desserts in the case. There wasn’t a massive display, but Mrs. Henderson liked to dabble in desserts as well, so there were at least a few tasty treats to choose from.
Corbin saw what he wanted immediately. There in the case were two little chocolate cups that seemed to be filled with a dark mousse of some sort. Decorating the edges of each of the chocolate cups, were tiny chocolate birds sitting in spun sugar branches. Mrs. Henderson must have really been branching out, he thought as he looked at the cupcakes in awe. Those were amazing and perfect, and he had to have them. Corbin didn’t recognize the lady behind the counter, but she smiled warmly at him and packaged the cups carefully so that he could get them home without breaking them. He tried to turn his cart around, but the wonky wheel got stuck and cursing furiously under his breath, Corbin gave it a little yank. He meant just to give it a nudge to get the wheel unstuck but instead sent it turning in a large circle where it came to rest on the foot of none other than a familiar angelic figure.
Corbin was surprised to see Mara. Typically he only saw her at the lodge when she had borrowed Williams’s truck and had to drop him off or pick him up from work. Corbin knew they shared a cabin a few miles up the mountain from the lodge, but he had never been there. He didn’t know much about the siblings at all, but Mara in a grocery store just seemed so out of place. He couldn’t put his finger on why, just that she didn’t seem the type to be flitting down the aisles grabbing laundry detergent and using coupons for toothpaste.
Even now she was dressed in another long peasant gown with princess sleeves and tiny white flowers all over it. Her long, pale hair was tied up in some complicated braid pattern that made him wonder how the hell long it took to do her hair that way in the morning.
“Shit- I mean shoot, Mara! I am so sorry I didn’t see you there. Are you hurt, did I hurt you?” He was such a clumsy asshole. He would feel like absolute garbage if he broke her toe or something with his overzealous cart wrestling. Mara was even tinier and more slender than Quinn if that was possible. She looked like a stiff breeze would knock her down, and here he was slamming into her with his buggy full of groceries.
Her laughter rang like music in the small, mostly empty store. “Oh, I'm all right,” she said with a dreamy smile on her face. She sounded kind of funny, like maybe she was preoccupied. Corbin wondered vaguely if she was even aware that he had hit her foot with his cart.
“Hey, that’s great, I’m still sorry though. Listen, what’s the deal with your brother? He was a no call, no show at the lodge today. He’s been acting kind of funny lately too. Did we do something? Is he upset that you know of?”
Her tiny face grew grave with concern. “William hasn’t been himself for a little while lately,” she said. “I am afraid he is feeling quite unwell today, he didn’t even get out of bed. I am sorry you didn’t know; I should have thought to tell someone, but I don’t have a phone, you know? I am not sure why William has been acting so strangely though. Has he said anything to you?”
Corbin was just about to mention that William couldn’t say anything because he was mute, but then thought twice about it. She probably meant had he texted or written anything about his problems to Corbin. Mara laughed again, and this time, the musical quality of her voice changed. Corbin couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but it had an edge to it that wasn’t there before. He shook his head to clear his mind of those ridiculous thoughts. Don’t be an idiot. It’s Mara. If something were really wr
ong with William, she would tell me.
“Oh, Corbin?” Mara asked, almost as if it was an afterthought. “It was lovely meeting your…Quinn yesterday. I know she mentioned picking the herbs I had asked for, but since William was ill today, I didn’t get to send him with a list. Do you mind if I stop out later this afternoon and get them? I have several salve orders pending and some shampoo and conditioner to mix up for some customers in Two Harbors, and I was hoping to get started on them so I could make the trip this weekend.”
Corbin wondered how on earth she ran her holistic skincare business without owning a telephone but decided not to question it. None of that was any of his business, and he needed to get these groceries bought and up the hill before the mousse in the chocolate cups melted.
“Sure, yeah. I should be home. If I’m not there, come check at cabin twelve. I might be visiting with Quinn.” He would be spending all of his time at cabin twelve if he could help it, and the thought made him blush a little, thinking about the things he would be doing there and to whom he would be doing those things.
Mara seemed not to notice his blush but smiled brightly at him and with a gentle “Thank you,” left the store without buying a single item. She must not have found what she was looking for, Corbin shrugged his shoulders and headed to the cashier, cradling the package of mousse cups in the crook of his arm, so they didn’t get jostled in the buggy. He probably looked ridiculous, a grown man protecting his dessert with one arm while wrestling wonky wheeled cart with the other, but he didn’t care. He was already looking forward to eating dessert. And maybe when they were done, they would eat the mousse.
