by Brook Wilder
“We’re packed for a little while, at least,” she tells me. “Probably have to buy a few things.”
“Not a problem. It’s time to go.”
She nods as she looks around the room. “So many memories here, good and bad. I almost hate to leave this place.” She leans into my chest and sighs. “I wish this could’ve turned out differently.”
I don’t have the heart to tell her about the targets on our backs quite yet. She spins around in my arms and stands on her toes to kiss me. I would like one final romp in this bed where we spent so much time relearning about each other and falling in love all over again. She’s still healing, though, and there’s not enough time. The bruises on her face will fade as will the cuts. The shadow growing in her eyes will not. I take her hand, pick up the duffel, and leave the master bedroom behind. She picks up her bag on the way down the stairs and then we’re out the door. We load up into the black sedan, neither of us looking back as Lukas drives away.
Stella settles against my shoulder and closes her eyes. She hasn’t even asked where we’re going. She probably doesn’t care as long as it’s away from here. Within the first half hour, she’s out cold, snuggled against me. When we’re out of the city and on the interstate, heading south, then west, I check my cell one last time. There’s a news story mentioning our home. The house was shot up and is currently on fire. Careful not to jostle Stella awake, I remove the SIM card from my cell, break it, then roll down the window. I let it all go on the interstate then settle in for a long drive.
There are far too many unanswered questions for my liking, but at least now I know who’s behind Mikhail’s untimely murder. I told Stella once if we ran, we’d always be running. The only way to ensure our safety now is to kill Aleksandr and Nadia. Kill them and wrest control away from whoever else might try to take it. Coming back to the city will be suicide, and as much as I wish I could let go of all the wrongs done to us, deep down, I know I can’t.
One day I’ll be back, and I’ll bring the wrath of hell with me. Sometimes, to fight evil, you have to let yourself fall into the darkness. And this time, with Stella falling with me, there’ll be no turning back.

BOOK 3 – HELD BY THE BOSS
I TRIED TO RUN, BUT HE IS A MAN I CANNOT ESCAPE FROM.
He made me his property. Put his baby in my belly.
And he’s just getting started.
I dared to disobey his rules, and he made me beg for mercy.
I tried to run away and he brought me back.
He’s shown me who he really is.
He will show me who I will become.
He will train me.
Teach me.
Turn me into exactly what he wants.
My first mistake was believing I could deny him my body.
My final mistake will be believing that I can deny him my heart.
