Not That Kind of Private Investigator: Chosen Book 21 Page 7

I didn't answer, using the fact that his head was covered to let my eyes finally move over his body like they'd been dying to do. Reaching out slowly, I pinched the sheet between my index and middle finger and lifted just a bit, peeking under at his gorgeous dick… which was just as hard as mine.

"Hey, you were thinking about sex too!" I said, snapping my head around in time to see him with the pillow lifted again and smiling, right before he grabbed my arm and jerked me onto the bed on top of him.

"I never said I wasn't," he growled into my neck, his arms wrapping around my body as his hips rocked up, pressing his needy dick to mine through the fabric of my athletic shorts and the thin sheet. "I knew the moment you stepped into the room. You smelled so good and you just stood there, looking at my body with your hot stare. What else was I supposed to think about?"

"I annoy the hell out of you, don't I?" I whined, tilting my head to give him more access and gripping his thick shoulders, digging my fingers into the unforgiving muscle.

"Definitely," he growled, licking a line up my neck and nipping at my ear, his beard rasping against the soft skin of my neck. "But I think we both know I enjoy being a cranky asshole, which means I love being annoyed, especially by you."

Right answer. I smiled, moaning as he opened his mouth wide and sucked hard just over the mark he'd given me almost a year before.

"I love you, Thompsyn Lane," I whispered, pulling back to look down into the face of my absolute everything.

Reaching up, he cupped the sides of my face, his smile soft and sincere. "I love you too, Bennett Emmerson James Lane.

"Why don't we just drop that Emmerson. Bennett James Lane sounds so much better," I grumbled, wishing for not the first time that I knew what my mother had been high on when she'd put my name on the birth certificate form.

"But then Ridley would have to change Harris's name to Harris James Beckett." His white blue eyes blinked up at me, and I knew he was trying to work some kind of guilt trip, but he was dealing with the wrong person, because I though Harris James Beckett was a beautiful name.

The baby monitor sparked to life with a small whimper, barely even a noise at all, but I knew better. If Hunt was awake, his sweet, quiet little whimpers would soon wake Lexington, who seemed to have the lungs of a fucking marathon runner when she was pissed.

Groaning, I eased off of my equally disgruntled-looking mate. "Put some pants on and come on. You know she'll go into hissy-fit mode if you don't have her a nipple ready."

He chuckled, but he also scrambled out of the bed like his ass was on fire, because Lexington Elizabeth Lane had my impatience and hyperactivity… and her father's grumpiness. Two months old and she was already giving us a run for our money.

When I made it into the nursery, I rolled my eyes at the second crib in the corner that had become car seat and blanket storage since the twins hated sleeping apart.

Looking down at my angels, I smiled at my son who had a tear in his eye but a smile on his face as he watched the bears and leopards dancing on the ceiling from the light projector strapped to the side of the crib.

"What are you doing handsome, trying to get us all in trouble with the lady of the house?" I whispered, chuckling when his focus landed on me for just a moment before returning to the light show with a small gurgle.

It was far too young for his eyes to even begin to show signs of color, but I secretly hoped they both ended up looking like Thompsyn's white-blue eyes. I was starting to think he was going to have golden brown hair, while Lexington's was looking more and more blonde every day.

The beast started to stir just as Thompsyn entered the room and I wondered if she actually smelled the source of her snack times coming.

As soon as her little eyes opened, Thompsyn was there, scooping her into his arms and positioning her, so that she could latch on and eat, which was honestly best for everyone in the room.

The twins were actually eating baby food already since shifters tended to start solids a lot sooner than humans––all stuff I didn't know until my mate became pregnant. I'd ended up reading every book I could on pregnancy and infants. Even human pregnancy––but my angels liked a nipple when they first woke up and my mate had been hesitant to switch to bottles just yet. I was pretty sure he was having a hard time letting go, but I'd never call him on it.

Chuckling, I glanced down at Hunt Davidson Lane, smiling when I found the precious little man staring up at me.

"Hey, sweet boy," I said, softly, making him gurgle out a laugh.

I heard Thompsyn hum softly and I turned to find him watching me, a soft smile on his face. "Is this the future you saw, Bennett?"

  "It's better."
