Millie hummed against her, the vibrations sending a new wave of want through Veronica. “Please, Millie. More.” She covered her mouth with her hand to stifle her loud groans.

Millie slipped her finger out and then slid two back in. She licked leisurely, timing it with her strokes, and Veronica panted and rolled her hips into Millie’s mouth, chasing the sensations she craved. Millie gripped her hips and held her still, taking her time.

“Oh. I’m so close. Please don’t stop.” Veronica whispered. “Please.”

Millie held her there, on the edge of coming, until Veronica was delirious with pleasure. Chest heaving, she gripped Millie’s head and held her in place as she ground out her pleasure. Millie licked and sucked until Veronica pushed her away, too sensitive to continue.

Millie collapsed next to her on the bed. “You’re not so good at following directions.” She flicked Veronica’s nipple, and Veronica arched up off the bed and shuddered through an aftershock.

Millie kissed the side of her neck and snuggled close.

Veronica groaned. “Give me a minute. I need to catch my breath.”

Millie took Veronica’s hand and placed it between her legs. Her thighs were slick and her clit hard under Veronica’s fingers. “Won’t take much, Ceannard.”

Veronica jacked Millie’s clit once, twice, and then Millie was clutching her arm as she came without a sound.

Veronica rolled on top of Millie and plunged her fingers deep. Millie wrapped her legs around Veronica and opened herself as Veronica fucked her. “Give it to me, babe, give me everything.”

“Take it, Ceannard, take all of it.” Millie whispered as she cupped the back of Veronica’s neck and stared into her eyes and came again.

VERONICA SWIGGED THE last of her coffee. “I’m sorry we can’t stay longer, Mom.”

Millie carried their suitcases through the kitchen and out of the front door to the car.

“Me too.” Her mother pressed a quick kiss to her cheek. “You keep us posted on how things are going. And if we need to reserve the hall for next year.” Her mother tipped her head toward the door. “She suits you, Veronica, more than Dee ever did.”

“She does, doesn’t she?” Veronica turned to watch Millie as she loaded their bags into the car. “Thanks, Mom, for everything.”

Her mom hugged her hard and stepped back.

Millie came back through the door to the kitchen. She took Veronica’s mother’s hand in both of hers. “Thank you for your hospitality, Cora. And the tips.” She winked at Veronica’s mom.

Veronica glanced from her mom’s face to Millie’s. “What tips?”

Millie smirked and let go of Veronica’s mother’s hands. Her mom patted Veronica’s arm. “You need to go now, Ronnie. You’ll miss your flight.”

She caught her mother’s wink at Millie as she mimed holding a telephone and silently mouthed, “Call me.” Veronica huffed out a breath to hide her smile.

  ONE YEAR LATER

“Hold still. I’m never going to get this thing tied.” Walter frowned at Veronica. “She’s not going to run off. Why are you fidgeting?”

  “We’re going to be late.”

“We won’t be if you hold still.” Walter yanked on the ends of her bow tie. “There.”

“Are we ready?” The minister peered at them over her glasses. “You have the ring?”

Walter patted his vest pocket. “Right here.”

It’s happening. It’s really happening. Veronica smoothed her hand down the front of her suit and pressed a trembling hand against her stomach. Get it together. Vomiting is not an option.

“Follow me. Just like we rehearsed.” The minister opened the door and Veronica and Walter fell into step behind her as she led them from the vestry.

Veronica gazed out over the pews. Dr. Kerr and Jaya Pomroy were in the second row right behind Veronica’s mom and dad. Her sister Violet and her husband held hands in the front row. She made eye contact with Veronica and raised her hand and waved. Benita, Tessa, and June had all made the trip from Skye, along with Martha, Myfanwy, and Lucia. As the first notes of the wedding march sounded, she looked to the back of the church. Millie walked down the aisle, escorted by Myfanwy.

Veronica curled her fingers into her palm to keep them from shaking. Millie stepped up on the altar. Veronica turned to face her and held her hand out palm up. Millie placed her hand in hers, and they turned as one to face their future.

  Double Six

  Excerpt

“Are you sure this is what we need?” Elaine lowered the hairbrush and shifted her gaze to Martha’s face reflected in the dressing table mirror.

Martha quirked her mouth. “We’ve been over this. Just give her a chance. You can’t keep up with our client requests.”

Elaine tossed the brush on the top of the dressing table. “Because you and Lucia don’t help.” She swept her titian hair back and up into a high ponytail.

Martha handed her an elastic. “We’re not having this argument again. Lucia and I are finished with that side of the business. We can’t keep putting people off or they’ll find other houses to visit.”

Elaine knotted a hunter green ribbon in her hair. “Oh please. Like they could find anyone like me. Or what we offer here.” She shoved away from the vanity and turned to face her sister. “Fine. We’ll see how she handles herself. But the timing sucks.”

Martha placed her hands on her sister’s shoulders. “We had to work with the dates she gave us. Lucia thinks she’d be a good fit. We’ve had our trip planned for a long time. We trust you to make a good decision.”

Alone. Again. “I’m not worried about making a wrong decision. Who’ll sub for her? Benita and Fallon are on holiday. No one else likes heavy pain play.”

Martha grinned wickedly at Elaine. “Maybe you could give it a go?”

Elaine rolled her eyes at her sister. “The switch gene is not in me. Go on, go on your holiday. I’ll figure it out.” Somehow. Damn, I miss Roxy.
