Kyle stood up straight and ignored the pain in his ribs. “She is in God’s arms and watching over you and Olivia.”
Miguel rubbed the shadow on his chin. “I look at Olivia and see her mother.” Miguel’s eyes stared at Kyle. “It’s almost frightening.”
“She lives on through Olivia,” Kyle said.
Miguel rubbed his chin. “I know.”
Kyle hesitated to leave Miguel alone.
“I’m fine,” Miguel said waving his hand. “Take the dog for a walk.”
“Are you sure?”
Miguel nodded. “Nothing’s gonna bring her back.”
Kyle hesitated again but Simon was circling so he decided to take Simon outside instead of letting him run around. Kyle realized he needed a moment alone too.
Kyle stepped out of the back door and spotted Miranda’s car in the parking lot of the church.
When they arrived home Miranda had already left his things in a cardboard box.
Kyle wanted to lash out. Take the box over there and throw it at Miranda’s feet. He wanted to scream at her and ask her why she’d believe a demon over him after knowing him for so many years. After all the time they’d spent together working as partners to make the church great. The hours they spent with the congregation. Comforting those that suffered, those that fell on hard times, and those whose lives had been coming to an end.
He and Miranda had been through so much within those walls and he felt like she threw away not only their friendship but their partnership like a piece of trash.
Kyle thought about marching up to the doors and showing her the pictures he took not even an hour before.
This is what Samuel Manes has done to this town, he wanted to shout at her. This is all him.
Kyle turned away from the church knowing that Miranda was drinking the Kool-Aid like everyone else. It wasn’t worth his breath to try to convince her otherwise.
Simon was sniffing around some bushes looking for the perfect place to pee when Kyle’s phone rang.
Kyle groaned when he pulled his phone from his pocket and saw it was his mother.
He thought about declining the call but a feeling blossomed in his gut that he should answer it.
Kyle took a deep breath and tapped the green button.
“Hello?”
“Hello, Kyle,” his mother said sounding surprised, “I thought you’d leave me to your voicemail.”
“I wouldn’t do that, Mom,” Kyle answered.
Kyle heard his mother breathe a sigh of relief. “I know your father overreacted. You know how he is about being a pillar of the community.”
Kyle rolled his eyes. “Don’t make excuses for him, Mom. I understand his stance, but I’ve never said I wanted to follow in his footsteps.”
“I agree and you’re right, I shouldn’t make excuses. I don’t care what you do with your life, Kyle, as long as you’re happy. But, I want to know what your plans are for the future. Hannah never had these opportunities and I want the best for you.”
Kyle spotted the familiar Toyota Camry pulling into his driveway. He smiled as Simon sensed his mistress and jerked the leash.
Kyle let Simon pull him along and said to his mother, “The hunter I’ve been working with has plans for me.”
“Really? A hunter?” He knew his mother frowned. “I don’t know…”
“It amazes me how much people like Dad have against these people,” Kyle argued. “These people risk their lives to save others and don’t ask for anything in return.”
Kyle heard silence over the phone and to his surprise, his mother burst out laughing.
“Bless your heart, son. I didn’t fall off the wagon yesterday.”
Kyle scoffed. “What do you mean?”
His mother cleared her throat but continued to chuckle. “I hope she’s a good woman and I hope you’re happy. You better bring her to Dallas.”
Kyle smiled as Simon pulled him to the parked car and he watched as Alison and Olivia exited the car.
Alison smiled at him and held up the bag of food.
“I will, Mom. In fact, she’s brought some food for us, so I better go,” Kyle said.
“I love you, Kyle.”
“I love you, too.”
Kyle hung up the phone. He expected worse out of the phone call but his mother was more understanding than he thought. He didn’t know how a future conversation with his father would go but at least they could try to come to an agreement about Kyle’s employment situation.
Simon greeted Alison happily and Olivia ran over to her father to tell him about their drive.
Kyle decided he wanted a hug as Alison greeted Simon lovingly and the dog returned the affection.
“May I have one of those?” Kyle asked.
Alison laughed. “A sloppy wet kiss?”
“Later. I’ll settle for a hug right now.”
Alison handed the food over to Miguel who said he would meet them in the house.
Kyle wrapped his arms around Alison and closed his eyes feeling the warmth of her body against his. After the scene inside that barn, he needed this hug from the woman with the strange green eyes.
“What did you see?” Alison asked against his shoulder.
“I’ve seen it before as you know, but a bunch of them gathered together…”
Alison pulled back but left her hands on Kyle’s shoulders. “How bad was the smell?”
“I thought I smelled some pretty horrific smells in my life, but this was beyond horrible. I swore I stepped into Hell.”
Alison’s facial expressions were sympathetic. “It is like Hell. That’s where they come from and they bring it with them when they arrive here.”
“Miguel didn’t handle it well. We found a teacher who’s been missing for months. She’s still…”
“Demonic?”
“Exactly.”
Alison nodded. “That’s a good thing. That means her soul is still fighting for control of her body. Hopefully, she’ll keep fighting when we release her and she can live a normal life.”
Kyle shook his head and pulled Alison against him, ignoring his aching ribs.
“How was Emma?”
“Oh, she knew we were up to something. I think they have another hiding place for the missing, though.”
It was Kyle’s turn to pull back. His eyebrows scrunched together. “Are you serious? How do you know?”
“When we were driving to Emma’s, Olivia mentioned that she thought she saw Emma in her room when she was first possessed. Emma said something about taking her to a shed.”
Kyle turned his head slightly in thought. “A shed? That’s weird.”
“We’re going to have to find out the hard way,” Alison said.
“What do you mean?” Kyle was confused.
“I was hoping we could take Samuel out sooner, but it looks like we need to keep him around a little longer.”
Kyle stepped back and scratched his head. “Great.”
“I have a plan.”
Kyle smiled at Alison. “Have you heard from your team?”
Alison checked her phone and showed the text to Kyle. “Ten from last count. They're getting ready to arrive the night of the festival.”
Kyle nodded and said, “I can’t wait to hear your plan.”
Alison shrugged and placed her phone back into her pocket. “In order for my team to come in undetected, we’re going to need to work together. Remember when I said your impulsiveness would come in handy?”
Kyle didn’t know whether he should be insulted or burst out laughing.
“Don’t be offended,” Alison said reading his facial expressions. “It will get the crowd worked up and all eyes on you. Can you handle it?”
“I can do it.”
“Meanwhile, I’ll have Olivia and Simon with me because they won’t think I would keep her with me,” Alison explained. “Miguel is going to meet with John from my team and give him directions to the barn. Hopefully, from there we can find out the other location.

Kyle cocked his head at Alison. “Why aren’t you telling Carter about this?”
Alison sighed. “Kyle, I know he’s your friend but I find it odd that he called off searches for those missing people and never wanted to alert The Feds—”
“He’s a small-town cop. You must know how they are. They let pride get in the way of good decisions sometimes,” Kyle said defending his friend. “Carter grew up here, but moved to Philadelphia and worked there for ten years before moving back here. He specifically said he did it to gain experience, but I know he’s sometimes blinded by his love of this town.”
Alison sighed. “I know you want to defend him.” Alison squeezed his arm. “If he’s innocent we don’t have anything to worry about, but I have to give him an alternate plan to protect us. Remember, New Mexico?”
Kyle nodded.
“We lost two hunters that week. Why? Because we were betrayed by a government official there who promised to help us.
Kyle understood where Alison was coming from. She was protecting her people. She was protecting them and the fewer people knew of their plans the safer they would be.
After what he’d seen inside that barn, he understood so much more.
Kyle thought of something and it made him smile. “You know, I have money saved.”
Alison lifted an eyebrow in question. “Okay?”
“Do you think when this is all over we can go somewhere? A beach? Clearwater?”
Alison’s eyes lit up with the mention of her hometown. “Do you need a tour guide?”
Kyle scratched his head. “Yeah, because I’ve never been there.”
Kyle pulled Alison close and his lips met her soft ones. She opened her mouth to let him in and his body responded in ways he’d forgotten about for a long time.
He always thought after his divorce and his disastrous relationship with Emma that he’d never find another woman he’d fall for, but Alison appeared at his door. The woman with the mysterious powers to expel demons. He never thought he’d fall for someone like her.
Alison responded by pressing her body against his. If Kyle hadn’t been in so much pain—
“Hey!”
Kyle and Alison separated and turned their heads to see Olivia standing at the bottom of the steps with her arms crossed.
“We’re hungry and kissing is gross.”
Olivia turned and stomped back into the house.
Alison and Kyle turned to each other and laughed.
“I guess we better follow her,” Alison said taking the leash from Kyle.
She cooed Simon and thanked him for being a patient dog.
Kyle turned back to the church and gazed at it. That life was now behind him and he was looking forward to a new beginning.
Chapter 46
Journal Entry Mid-August, Present Day
It's been a week and a half. All has been quiet with the demonic entities because they’re getting ready to execute their plans like we are. I’ve been watching for Samuel and he’s kept a low profile. No one appeared to threaten or attack us. They’re waiting for us like we’re waiting for them.
The chess pieces are in place. The annual Wolfpine festival has begun. The team awaits their signal. It will not be easy. It might take days, hell, weeks, but many lives will be saved and we will vanquish the evil from this town.
We’ve done it before and we can do it again.
I’m dreaming of Kyle and I walking Clearwater Beach at sunset.
Chapter 47
Alison grinned when she sat up and stared at the cross hanging on the wall above Kyle’s bed.
She thought she should have some guilt staring at it while she was upright and naked with Kyle’s dick inside her. But, she didn’t. This is what two humans do.
Alison averted her eyes away from the cross.
Alison turned her thoughts back to the task at hand. She wanted to laugh but held back. She could see Kyle was still in pain but too stubborn to admit it, although there were moments of pure pleasure running across his face.
“Do you want me to stop?” She asked.
“Oh, Lord, no,” Kyle answered breathlessly.
His warm hands had been on her hips. He moved them up her belly past her ribs and settled on her breasts, making Alison moan with pleasure.
Alison leaned over placing her hands above his shoulders and moved her hips up and down against his penis.
Alison moved faster, enjoying the sensation inside her. They had important work to do tonight, but she wanted to enjoy this one moment. She needed to feel something besides hurt, pain, and anguish and Kyle provided the perfect medicine.
He lifted his head to suck and lick each one of her nipples, making Alison shiver with excitement.
Kyle looked for Alison’s mouth and she obliged as their tongues and genitals moved in unison. Alison was close. Oh, she was so close.
Kyle was even closer. He moaned and bit his lip trying to hide his pain, but he didn’t let it stop him as he released her lips and growled with pleasure.
His dick pulsated, but that didn’t slow her down. A wave of orgasm rushed through her and she cried out as her muscles spasmed.
Alison leaned over Kyle. She was careful not to flop on top of him for fear of hurting his already sore ribs.
His hot heavy breaths caressed her cheek.
Alison lifted herself up and off Kyle. She lay on the bed next to him, trying to catch her breath. Her skin had a light sheen of sweat sticking to it. Hot cum leaked from her vagina as her body relaxed.
She stared at the ceiling for a moment with a grin plastered on her face. This was the first time in years she relaxed and enjoyed the company.
Alison turned on her side to gaze at Kyle, whose breathing had slowed.
“Are you okay?” Alison asked with concern.
Kyle turned and smiled at her. “Yeah. I’m fine.”
He turned away from her and reached for his glasses to put them on. He winced but still smiled at Alison as he turned to face her.
“I’m fine,” he mumbled as his hand caressed Alison’s arm, making her shiver.
Alison reached out her hand and caressed Kyle’s beard. “I love this, but you’ll want to shave it in Florida.”
Kyle chuckled. “I use to keep a clean shaven face in Texas for the heat.”
Alison gazed at Simon who lay in the room’s corner and giggled. She hadn’t realized he’d come into the bedroom.
“We had an audience,” Alison said.
Kyle turned his head and upon seeing Simon his face flushed. “He needs a girlfriend.”
“No! I can barely handle him,” Alison answered with a laugh.
Kyle turned back to Alison and became serious. “Do you think this will work?”
“I hope so, but history says something will go wrong.”
Kyle nodded and said, “Alison, I know you’re a pro but—”
Alison smiled. Kyle’s concern touched her. “I will.”
“I’m serious,” Kyle said. His eyes turned to the cross above them. “You deny it, but I still believe and I’m praying the Lord will protect you and your team.”
Alison scooted closer to Kyle and snuggled against him. His lips touched her hair. “I said a long prayer last night.”
Her eyes met Kyles and a smile touched his lips. “What did you think?”
Alison shrugged. “We’ll see if it’s answered.”
“It will be.”
Kyle reached over and glanced at the time on his phone. “We’d better get ready. They’ll be here soon.”
Alison groaned and snuggled deeper into Kyle’s chest. “I don’t want to,” she whined.
Kyle chuckled. “Me neither.”
Alison sighed. “But, you’re right.”
Alison showered and dressed first. When she finished her shower, she found a text from John saying the team was in position and ready for her signal.
She sent a text back stating that everyone was ready to go.
“Stay safe,”
John messaged back.
Alison smiled and placed her phone in her pocket while she finished tying her sneakers. The weather was hot and humid today, but Alison decided on jeans and a simple T-shirt because she needed comfort for the battle about to happen.
