One Year Later

In the past year, we’ve become the proud owner’s of Boondocks, gotten hitched, and built our dream home. I’ve been able to put the past memories of Lane and Daddy behind me and sell my childhood home.
“Come on Walker! We gotta get a move on! It’s getting late!” I say as I gather my flashlight and giggin’ pole.
As Walker walks out from our back bedroom in a pair of waders and a t-shirt, I giggle at my badass biker boy.
“Princess, you better be glad I love you,” he says.
I shrug my shoulders as we walk out to the lake. After taking over Boondocks, I decided the menu needed a new addition— fresh frog legs. Every Monday night it is the special at Boondocks. When I first mentioned it to Walker, he thought I was crazy until he had them.
I shine my flashlight on the bank and we spot the frogs. I let Walker go first and after a few hours we’ve caught enough for Monday. As we make our way back to the bank, I notice a big one. Carefully, I walk behind him, and spear him. When I take him off and get ready to put him in the bucket, I give him a kiss.
“Whatcha doing that for Princess?” Walker asks.
“Just seeing if he’ll turn into a prince,” I say.
“Doubtful, you’ve already got your prince,” he says, and he’s right. The day Walker Bentley rode into Barber was the day this princess no longer needed to kiss frogs to find her happily ever after.

Casey Peeler grew up in North Carolina and still lives there with her husband and daughter.
Growing up Casey wasn't an avid reader or writer, but after reading Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neal Hurston during her senior year of high school, and multiple Nicholas Sparks' novels, she found a hidden love and appreciation for reading. That love ignited the passion for writing several years later, and her writing style combines real life scenarios with morals and values teenagers need in their daily lives.
When Casey isn't writing, you can find her near a body of water listening to country music with a cold beverage and a great book.
