“From my understanding n’all, he don’t know nobody out here like that. Shitt, he met dude through another nigga.”
India’s face formed into a snare at his words. “Jay, are you serious right now? So, he’s in a city where he knows no one and he’s talkin’ about finding someone else to deal with? Hell no, Jay’Shawn! Bae, get outta there. Please, listen to me. I don’t like the sound of this. It just don’t seem right. I’m not tryna say yo’ boy on some bullshit, but baby, I don’t trust this shit at all. Not at all. Jay’Shawn, get the hell out of that state now,” India said, grabbing her laptop and pulling up a web page for plane tickets out of the LAX.
As she was doing her thing on the computer, Jay’Shawn took heed to her warning. In fact, he had actually had the same bad feeling. He just kept it to himself. Subconsciously, he grabbed his twin 9mm and checked the magazines. He took the safety off of both guns and put one in each chamber.
“Bae, if you can make it to the airport within a half hour you can catch the 12:30AM flight back to Memphis or there’s one leaving at 2:45AM.”
Jay’Shawn’s heart did a double beat in his chest from the concern in Indy’s voice. He had to admit that getting to know her better over the past year on a deeper level made him feel as though she had his ass wrapped around her finger. He felt as though India was the balance he needed to keep him from losing himself fully to the streets. He had someone to come home to, and a woman he could see himself falling in love with. Hell, sometimes he could possibly see himself marrying her. He was already feeling the love and hadn’t even psychically touched her ass yet.
“N’all, baby, I can’t catch no damn flight. I’ma have to drive out this bitch. I wasn’t even supposed to leave the state.”
Hearing him say what she already knew pissed India off, and she didn’t hesitate in agreeing with him. “That’s exactly what I was thinking, Jay. That was dumb as hell on your part anyways. I mean to fuckin’ leave knowing you not supposed to, then for this shit to happen on top of that. You staying down there is fuckin’ stupid, period.”
“Aye, who the fuck yo’ ass think you talkin’ to, Indy? You better lower your fuckin’ voice. Yellin’ like you done lost yo’ goddamn mind! I know what the fuck I’m doing.” Jay snapped.
India rolled her eyes up in her head. “Obviously not.” Her attitude didn’t go unnoticed.
Jay’Shawn looked at the phone and his brows raised in aggravated frustration. “Shawdy, don’t make me leave here just to come to Chi-Town and yank yo’ lil’ ass up! Cool that shit, real talk, baby girl. You hear me?”
India knew the way she was coming at him wasn’t cool, but she really couldn't hide her attitude. Just the simple fact of him knowing he shouldn’t have taken his dumb ass down there in the first place without first getting some background on them niggas was enough to make her livid.
“Whatever, Jay’shawn, I’m not ‘bout to argue with you. The point is, you need to get yo’ black ass back to Memphis.” Letting out a heavy breath, she got out of bed in search of some clothes. “Or I can catch a flight—”
“What the fuck you gon’ catch a flight out here fah?” Jay’Shawn angrily cut her off.
India couldn’t understand why he was getting mad at her when all she wanted to do was help him out by getting his stupid ass out of a state he had no business being in to begin with.
“I was planning on flying out to yo’ simple ass and helping you drive back, but whatever, Jay. You obviously got this. So you figure this bullshit out.” She was ready to leave Memphis and head back home.
“When I see yo’ ass just know, I’ma slap the fuck outta you.” His threat rolled off his tongue with deep promise.
It didn’t seem to faze India, though. It was nothing more than bullshit, phone talk to her. “Fuck you, Jay’Shawn! Nigga, you can try it if you want to. Get the fuck off my phone, stupid ass.” She pressed the end button without giving him a chance to reply. After ending the call, she tossed her phone on the bed then threw her body across the bed.
It wasn’t long afterwards when she heard Trey Songz’ jam Foreign playing from the speakers as the phone rang. Looking at the phone seeing Jay’Shawn’s name, India rolled her eyes. She was not in the mood to argue with him more than she had. Instead, she chose to ignore his call, get comfortable in bed and push his fucked up attitude to the back of her mind.
She tried to fall asleep, but it wasn’t coming easily. Worry began to root its wicked self in the pit of her stomach. So, she silently prayed for him to be okay and make it out of that city in one piece.
Chapter 3
It was one o’clock in the morning and he had no idea where he would go, but he knew he couldn’t stay in the room pissed off. With India not answering his phone calls, sitting alone was only going to make his blood boil even more.
India only spoke what he already knew, but it pissed him off that it took her to spit game at him in order for him to get up and actually make a move. Even though he hated to believe or even think Benny was on some foul shit, it was starting to look that way.
Jay'Shawn decided he’d walk three doors down to Benny’s room. His hand raised up, ready to rap on the door, but he caught himself as he heard voices mumbling from the other side.
He made out his mans’ talking to a female. Figuring Benny had found a shorty to smash, Jay'Shawn was about to head back to his room when the voices became louder. Instinctively, he stood there and listened.
“Ben, I don’t know why the fuck you wanna wait. The more time we spend waiting gives him more time to think shit ain’t right. We shoulda done this the first night y’all got here.” The girl said.
“Kristy, if you don’t lower yo’ fuckin’ voice, I’ll break yo’ fuckin’ neck.” Benny snapped at the female he’d met at a club in Hollywood over two years ago.
Kristy was Cali born and bred. Ever since that night they had become tight. Thick as thieves, even. The stayed hitting licks together. Their biggest hit would’ve been Tremaine, the connect Benny and Jay’Shawn were supposed to meet the night they arrived in town.
The plan was to kill him and set Jay’Shawn up for the rap. But with Tremaine’s spot getting hit by the police it set them back. Now they had to wait until the heat of the hit cooled down before they made their move.
Benny could tell Jay’Shawn was starting to get antsy about being down in Cali too long, especially with him just being released, and now this shit. He knew he had to make his move and quickly. The one thing he knew for sure was he couldn’t let Jay’Shawn go back to Memphis alive. While Jay’Shawn was on lock, Benny had been running shit, not by his self though.
Jay was still the nigga calling shots from behind bars and he didn’t like that at all. He’d gotten a small taste of what being a boss was like. Having niggas at yo’ beck and call, willing to die or kill a nigga with the quickness for you. He wanted that, to feel that power for himself and by himself.
A part of him knew the only reason niggas showed him respect was because he was Jay’Shawn’s boy. But greed consumed Benny’s soul, he needed the money, power, and respect off of his own merit. Not Jay’Shawn!
“Don’t tell me you ‘bout to bitch out on me now, Kris baby?” Benny asked as he stood walking toward her.
“No, I’m not. I’d never do that, but bae if he’s smart like you say he is, why give him time to figure shit out? You already told him you didn’t know anybody out here. Benny, if you don’t know anyone, how the hell do you expect to find another connect? At least introduce me to him so he can think I’m the one introducing you to the people out here,” explained Kristy. She took ahold of his face, slowly kissing his lips.
Once their lips touched she had to hold back from gagging, but the urge quickly went away and a sinister smile covered her face as she imagined emptying the clip of her baby .380 in his face.
They had been cool up until that point. The moment Kristy learned of Benny's plan to kill his best friend, Jay’Shawn, someone he had known since the third grade,
she set one of her own plans in motion because she couldn't respect or trust a nigga who would cross his mans. She knew it was only a matter of time before he would be plotting against her as well.
“I’ll introduce you to him in the morning, after that we’ll try to get up with Tremaine. I’m tryna have this shit done by tomorrow night,” Benny concluded.
“Okay,” she replied. She was ready to make moves as well. With a wide smile, she thought about the money she was about to inherit.
On the other side of the door, the man they planned to rob was formulating his counter plan.
Chapter 4
Having overheard everything that had been said, Jay’Shawn knew Benny was on some bullshit. It fucked him up because they had been boys since playground days. Now, in his eyes Benny was just like every other nigga, not to be trusted.
Turning around Jay’Shawn headed for the stairs. Quickly bouncing down them two at a time, he headed out on foot to the nearest gas station.
Arriving at a Shell Station, he grabbed a bottle of bleach, latex gloves and trash bags. With his items in his hand, he checked out trying his hardest to avoid the cameras. Once he was done, he quickly made his way back to his motel room.
He went inside and put on a pair of latex gloves, then he stripped the bed of its comforter, sheets and pillow cases. Then, he proceeded to stuff them inside one of the large trash bags. He walked in the bathroom and pulled out two face towels, placing them in the bag as well. When he had everything inside the trash bag, he tied it tightly, then sat it off to the side before he cleaned the bathroom, the toilet, the sink and the tub.
Leaving out of the bathroom, he went into the main room wiping off everything he’d touched, including the TV, remote, light switch, door knob, lamp and the table.
It was 3:15AM By the time Jay’Shawn was done, but the room was white glove ready. After taking his luggage and garbage bags to the truck, he threw them in the back and went to Benny’s room.
***
The moans from the room let him know they were still awake. Jay’Shawn gave the door three hard rips. The knocks caused both Kristy and Benny to jump hard.
“Who the fuck is it,” Benny snapped, pushing Kristy off of him as her eyes rolled up in her head. She could feel an attitude forming deeply inside her core.
“Nigga, it’s me. Open the goddamn door!” Jay’Shawn’s deep baritone voice replied.
Not thinking anything of it Benny quickly snatched the door open.
“Shawn?” replied Benny’s confused voice as he opened the door. “What the fuck you doing out here? Nigga, do you know what time it is?” he questioned, not even noticing the look on his boy’s face.
Turning his back on Jay’Shawn, he went to the other side of the room to slip on his boxers. It wasn’t until he didn’t get a reply that he took his mans in. “You good Shawn? What’s goin’ on man?” he questioned, tilting his head sideways.
Jay’Shawn mimicked his move. “I don’t know G, you tell me. What’s up?”
Benny moved to sit on the bed, but Jay’Shawn grabbed his Nines with the silencers and pointed one at him, and the other at Kristy. “Nuh, uh bitch, don’t even think about it,” he spat out menacingly. A bullet had already been put inside the chamber, so all he had to do was squeeze the trigga and let the bitch rip into both of their heads and faces.
“Jay’Shawn, man, what the fuck you doin’? Chill with that bullshit—” Benny stopped talking in mid-sentence when Jay’Shawn took steps toward him. His brows furrowed. He was trying to understand what was going on. He knew Jay’Shawn didn’t know shit, so why the fuck was he suddenly bugging out?
“Fuck you, B! I knew shit wasn’t right when we got to this bitch.” Jay’Shawn spat.
“But you was my nigga.” Benny shook his head with his hands raised.
Thinking Benny now had Jay’Shawn’s full attention, Kristy slowly scooted to the edge of the bed, waiting on the right moment to grab her gun from the drawer.
Benny continued, “What the fuck you talkin’ ‘bout, folk? Look, I know you on edge about being out here with everything that happened, but I found this other cat out in Oakland who got some work,” explained Benny.
When Jay stopped and looked as if he was listening, Benny thought he had his hooks once again embedded deeply inside Jay’Shawn.
“So you ain’t on no shady shit?” Jay asked with a raised brow, locking eyes with Benny.
“Hell n’all! Especially not with you, man. We been boys all our lives, man. Hell n’all!” exclaimed Benny, shaking his head as if the mere idea of it was downright stupid.
“Put it on all you love if you ain’t on no bullshit,” said Jay’Shawn.
“I put it on all I love,” vowed Benny.
Jay'Shawn chuckled, silently dismissing that nigga's vow. He pointed his gun at Kristy and pumped three shots into her head.
Boc! Boc! Boc!
Her head exploded in a burst of red and her body slumped down to the floor.
“Jay? What the fuck nigga?” Benny screamed out as he ran to Kristy’s limp body. “Man, I ain’t on no bullshit!
“Fuck you, G. You a pussy ass nigga!” On that note, he put four hollow points in Benny’s head. Once he slumped over, Jay'Shawn didn't hang around.
Chapter 5
One Month Later
India met up with her best friend at the mall. After some shopping, they ended up in the food court. Aria was interested in catching up on her love life.
“What’s going on with you and Jay’Shawn? I haven’t heard you talking about him as much?” India's best friend Aria asked.
“There’s nothing to really tell. I mean, that nigga crazy, and I just can’t. He sometimes says and does dumb shit not thinking about the after effects of his words.
After the argument she and Jay’Shawn had when he was in Cali, India decided fell back a little. She was still really feeling him but sometimes he would be hard to deal with.
“I get it kinda, but from the way you two talked I thought it was serious, but I guess not. He seemed hella cool, though,” Aria mentioned.
“Bitch, how the fuck you sound? He seemed hella cool? Yo’ ass never talked to him, so how the fuck would you know?” India asked, laughing.
Aria simply rolled her eyes. “Bitch, I did talk to him once on the phone. I actually talked to him the other day while you were playing,” Aria said, faking an attitude.
Hearing her say she talked to Jay’Shawn made India suspicious. She knew her girl would never be on no shiesty shit, but what did they have to talk about?
Catching her girl's attitude, she couldn’t help but rub it in. “He sounded hella good too. Nigga had a bitch dripping from the words what's up? Shittt, I was a few seconds away from asking if he wanted my phone virginity. You know I ain’t never had phone sex before but a bitch was ready to have her cherry popped.”
Though India wanted to be mad she couldn’t help but laugh at her friend’s silly personality. “You play too much. I hope you didn’t tell him nothin’ about me ‘cause I’m not talkin’ to him right now,” India confessed. From the furrow of Aria’s brows and the slight width she added to her eyes, India knew her ass had done something. “You did, didn’t you?”
Aria’s phone vibrated which it had been doing for the past half hour. “No, I haven’t. Look, I gotta go to the bathroom I’ll be back.”
“No the fuck you don’t. Aria, what did you do?” India asked with seriousness in her tone.
All Aria could do was open and close her mouth like a fish. She didn’t want to spoil the surprise. Once again her mouth opened then closed before a relieved breath left her parted lips. "Nothing. Damn, yo’ ass need to chill. I was just messing with you. Well, I did talk to him only because he was with Martell. He just asked about you is all. I told him you was good. That's it. Now can I go to the bathroom, please?"
Though India only halfway believed her, she let her go. “That’s all yo’ ass better had said too,” she commented with a roll of her neck and
eyes.
“That shit ain’t cute, yo’ fuckin’ eyes gonna get stuck.”
India's head couldn't have turned around fast enough from the deep voice she knew all too well. Hell, the voice she had masturbated to so many times over the past year.
“Jay’Shawn?” India managed to get out before she was pulled up from her seat.
“So, you avoiding me now, Indy? A nigga can’t get no conversation no more, huh? It’s just fuck me now, huh?”
Aria let out a loud laugh as she watched her best friend become speechless. India always had a mouth piece on her so seeing her like this was comical. She could also see her girl was glad to see Jay’Shawn. A man couldn’t be soft or weak messing with her friend, and Aria could tell he was neither.
“Well, I'm gon’ leave now. It was nice meeting you Jay'Shawn.”
Finally, looking at Aria, he gave a head nod. “You too, shawdy. Good looking.” He thanked her.
Giving him a little smile, Aria waved bye to them both before she left and headed home.
“So, you don’t know how to answer the phone, Indy?” he asked. Getting herself together she tried to shrug his hands off of her only to have them tighten on her forearm.
“Let me go, Jay'Shawn. You should've told me you was coming instead of trying to piss me off all the time." India snapped. She was happy he was there, but at the same time mad because he hadn’t told her he was coming.
“Who the fuck is you talkin’ to?”
Rolling her eyes she bit into her lower lip as she glanced up at him. Not able to contain her excitement any longer, she threw her arms around his neck and held him tightly. Happy to be actually holding him, she smiled from ear to ear but leave it to Jay’Shawn to fuck with her good mood.
“Hell n’all. Get the fuck off me. Shittt, don't get excited now. When just a week ago yo’ ass wasn't tryna give a nigga no fuckin’ play. I came down here just to fuck you up. Real shit, shawdy. Don’t ever do no bullshit like that, you hear me.”
