More thanks go to the following writers for various bits of inspiration and/or guidance: Kevin J. Anderson & Rebecca Moesta (The Gorn Crisis), Diane Carey (The Dominion War Book 2), Bill Clinton (My Life), A.C. Crispin & Howard Weinstein (Enter the Wolves), Peter David (Stone and Anvil, After the Fall), J.M. George III (Mission: Gamma Book 1: Twilight, “Iron and Sacrifice”), Christie Golden (Homecoming, The Farther Shore), Robert Greenberger (Doors Into Chaos, A Time to Love, A Time to Hate), J.G. Steven York & Christina F. York (Spin). Thanks also to GraceAnne Andreassi DeCandido, Jennifer Heddle, Steve Mollman, and Man Fai Wan for various and sundry bits of assistance. And I suppose I should thank myself, since I pilfered rather liberally from my own past Star Trek work.
The usual suspects: the Geek Patrol, the Malibu Gang, the Forebearance (who were especially useful kibbitzers on this one), and all the folks on the online bulletin boards (www.psiphi.org, www.trek
bbs.com, www.startrekbooks.com, www.booktrek.tk, www.startreknow.com, www.trekweb.com, and the various Star Trek novel-related boards on groups.yahoo.com). Plus, one cannot forget the many Star Trek reference books floating around, in particular The Star Trek Encyclopedia by Mike & Denise Okuda, with Debbie Mirek, and Star Charts by Geoffrey Mandel.
And finally, thanks to Aoki, the new kitten who came home with us right around the time I started this book, and whose enthusiasm, affection, and all-around cuteness kept me going during those long days and nights of writing.
About the Author
KEITH R.A. DECANDIDO wrote his first Star Trek novel in high school. Proving this is a just universe, that piece of immature work never saw the light of day. Fifteen years later, WildStorm published his Star Trek: The Next Generation comic book miniseries Perchance to Dream, which was a much better piece of writing. Since then, Keith has written and edited a wide variety of Star Trek material in an equally wide variety of media. His most recent Treks include the USA Today best-selling A Time for War, a Time for Peace, the novel that introduced President Nan Bacco; Book 3 in the I.K.S. Gorkon series, Enemy Territory; the novella Ferenginar: Satisfaction Is Not Guaranteed in Worlds of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Volume 3; the eBook Security, #54 in the monthly Star Trek: S.C.E. series; the short story “Letting Go” in the Star Trek: Voyager anthology Distant Shores; and editing the anthology Tales from the Captain’s Table, for which he also wrote the story “loDnI’pu’ vavpu’ je.” Outside of Star Trek, Keith has written the acclaimed fantasy novel Dragon Precinct; the first novels in the series of books based on Farscape and Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda; the novelizations of Serenity and both Resident Evil films; Doctor Who and Xena short stories; two Spider-Man novels, one with José R. Nieto in 1998 (Venom’s Wrath), one solo in 2005 (Down These Mean Streets); and much more. Keith—whose work has been praised by Entertainment Weekly, Booklist, TV Zone, Cinescape, Dreamwatch, Library Journal, Starlog, and Publishers Weekly—is also a musician and an avid New York Yankees fan. He lives in the Bronx with his girlfriend and the world’s two goofiest cats. Learn too much about Keith at his official Web site at DeCandido.net, or just send him silly emails at [email protected].
