by Lucy Clark
‘You don’t waste time, do you,’ she stated, stunned at his words but elated he’d spoken them. He wanted to marry her! This man, who was so different from Calvin. This man, who had looked into her soul and seen the real person there. The man, who had helped her to climb out of the abyss and into the sunlight. The man, who had stolen her heart but given his in return.
‘I need to know, Megsy. What we have between us is intense and real. I’ve never felt this way before and I want you by my side. To be with Heather as well, to become a family in our own right.’
‘Two parents?’
‘Two loving parents.’
‘I do love your daughter, Lochie.’
‘And…what about giving Heather some brothers and sisters?’
Megan could see him holding his breath, anxiously awaiting her reply. Her smile was wide as she nodded. ‘I’ve waited for so long to have children of my own and I wouldn’t want to have them with anyone else but you. Besides, you’ve done the most brilliant job of raising Heather, I don’t need to wonder if you’re perfect father material because I already know you are. It’s another reason why I love you so much.’
‘Ah, Megsy, my darlin’.’ He lifted her onto his lap, needing to have her closer than she was. ‘You have no idea how happy that makes me.’
‘Well…why don’t you show me, then?’ And he did, taking his time as he tenderly kissed her with all the love in his heart.
‘Make me the happiest Scotsman in all of Kiama.’
‘You’re the only Scotsman in all of Kiama,’ she pointed out.
‘Shh. I’m proposing.’
‘Sorry.’
‘Marry me, Megsy. Please?’
‘Och, aye,’ she remarked, a teasing glint in her eyes.
