End Game Page 8

Lance turned into a gold statue.

Kristi smiled. “He will look good by my pool!” Kristi slowly made her way towards me. “Now that all the little people are out of the way. It’s time we settle who takes this sword once and for all!”

“Ah, Nimue, how much more time do you need?” I asked.

“Another three minutes,” she said. “More if you keep distracting me!”

White and gold energy started flowing and crackling from Kristi’s body. She seemed to ripple with power.

“I don’t know if I have three minutes,” I said.

"Use the sword then," the sword told me. "With me in your hand, you can defeat Kristi…"

“The sword has a point,” Nimue said.

“But what if I can’t put the sword back? Could I turn out to be even worse than Kristi?”

“Gwen, honey, I don’t think that can be possible… Take the sword, fight her off and then we’ll deal with the sword.”

I felt torn. I knew I didn't want Kristi to have this sword. I couldn't trust her. The question was could I trust myself. I figured I could. I had to. Right.

“You know, Gwen, I’ll count to three and if you get out of my way I won’t turn you to you to poop.”

  “Oh gross!” I said.

“Look I’m a spoiled rock star. I’m used to getting whatever I want when I want it. So, one, two, three.” Kristi said with a pout. She pointed at me.

“Okay, I claim this sword!” I shouted grabbing Excalibur with both my hands. I felt the power surge through me. Lifting the sword up, I effortlessly repelled a bolt of magic Kristi had fired at me.

Kristi turned blood red. “No, no, no!” she shouted. “This is NOT how this song goes! I am going to win! I always win!”

Kristi fired bolt after bolt of magical energy at me, first from the right hand and then the left.

“You will be poo!” she screamed.

The sword and I worked together as one. I didn’t know if I was guiding the sword or it was guiding me, but I blocked each shot reflecting them harmlessly away.

Kristi held her ground and smirked. “I can keep this up all day! I’ve decided turning you to poop is too good for you. I’m sending you into another dimension. One with a way in and no way out. You will be trapped there forever!”

  Morgana appeared on my shoulder.

“Okay, this is weird,” I told Morgana.

Meanwhile, the sword kept reflecting Kristi's magic.

“This is what we’ve been waiting for,” Morgana said to me. “Use the sword and repel the magic back at her! That will get rid of her for good.”

“That’s easier said than done!” I said.

“No, it is not! We can do it!” the sword said in my head.

“It’s just basic physics Gwen, think of the sword as a powerful mirror that can reflect light. Magic is just another form of energy!”

I took a deep breath. Then another. I had to time this right, but I had played plenty of video games where the hero had to use a shield or a sword to reflect something back at the bad guy. This was pretty much the same thing. Well, except if I didn’t time it well I would end up trapped in a dimension of no escape. It would literally be game over for me. Forever. Not only that but it would mean game over for all my friends and loved ones. Not much would be in Kristi’s way. Everybody left would be turned into her fans.

Nope, that was not going to happen. Not on my watch.

I locked my eyes on Kristi's hands. In a way, this would be like hitting a ball thrown by a pitcher. I just needed to track the ball of energy from her hands.

A white bolt came zipping towards me.

I flicked my wrist forward sending the bolt flying backward at Kristi. The bolt zapped over her shoulder.

Kristi locked both of her hands together. “Okay, you’ve forced me to hit you with full power!” she screamed.

A thick beam of white light fired out from her fist. The light bore through the air seeming to burn a path towards me. I pulled up the sword. I felt the energy from the light meet the blade. I flicked my wrist ever so gently towards Kristi. The light shot back hitting Kristi in the chest.

“No!” she screamed as the light ran up and down her body engulfing her with crackling energy becoming a giant sphere of white light. The sphere of light shimmered then shrank into nothingness.

Gail, Sebastian, and Lance all returned to normal.

Morgana dropped off of my shoulder. "You did it, Gwen!"

“Perfect timing,” Nimue told me. “I am ready to take control of the sword now.”

"No, Gwen!" the sword said in my head. "You don't want to give me up. I am power. We are power. Look what we did for our first act together. We rid the world of a terrible singer. We freed your friends. Nobody will ever need to listen to song lyrics like, I am so fine I blow your mind, ever again. The world is truly a better place.”

  “Gwen, the sword,” Nimue said.

“Come on Gwen you can do this,” Morgana said.

“Please Gwen, you don’t need the sword,” Lance said. “You are powerful enough without it.”

My thoughts: OMG it felt so so so amazing to have this sword. I had seen how powerful Kristi was. Yet with the sword, I took her out easily. Man the things I could do with this sword. Nothing could hurt me. I could make the world the way I wanted to. I could correct things that were wrong. I could…

No, no no. This was not my place. My place was to defend the world. Help teach people to help themselves. I wanted to be a force for good. Not just a force. But man having this sword felt good.

Chapter 14: The Sword and the Earth

Looking at the sword, it pulsated in my hand. I felt its power. I wanted that power. The power to fix things. The power to make things right.

“I am ready to isolate the sword,” Nimue said slowly. “You only need to set it free.”

“I do not wish to be free,” the sword said in my head.

“Come on Gwen, let the sword go,” Sebastian coaxed.

“Yes, please,” Gail said, “you don’t need that sword.”

“You do need me and want me!” the sword insisted.

“I do need and want it,” I said meekly.

Lance came forward. He put his hands on my shoulders. “Gwen, listen to me. I saw what this sword did to Arthur!”

“I had Arthur save to world!” the sword said to me.

“The sword helped Arthur save the world,” I repeated.

“Perhaps,” Lance said with a nod. “But he lost himself. I do not wish that for you. I like this Gwen, a lot.”

Lance's words bounced around my mind. I too saw what the sword did to Arthur. It thrust great responsibility on him. A responsibility he wasn't ready for.

“Arthur was weak, you are not!” the sword told me.

“Arthur was weak, I am not!” I said.

  “Yes!” the sword said.

“That is true,” Lance said. “I don’t believe Arthur was weak, just in over his head. You are not.”

  “You’re right, Lance,” I said.

I opened my hand and let the sword drop to the ground.

"No!!!!!" the sword yelled into my brain.

  “About time,” Nimue said.

Nimue motioned at the sword. A beam of energy lifted the sword of the ground. Nimue motioned towards herself. The sword floated towards her. Nimue pointed to the ground and spun her hand. The ground ripped open creating a gaping tunnel. Nimue pointed to the tunnel. The sword fell into the hole. Nimue closed her arms together. The gap closed.

“It is sealed forever,” Nimue said. She walked over and smiled at me. “You did well, Gwen.”

“No, we did well!” I told her.

Nimue’s smile grew. “Yes, you all did well.”

  “I agree,” Morgana said.

“Wow, you didn’t go for the sword,” I told Morgana.

Morgana smirked. “Like I said, I like the world as it is. Why change things? I’m not just a pretty face. I am way smart.”

“What happened to Kristi. Can she come back?” Sebastian asked.

Morgana shrugged. “Not easily if at all. No matter what it will take her a long time to work her way out of that dimension.”

“What about her career? Won’t people notice she is gone,” Gail said.

“I have a magic clone in her place,” Morgana said. “It’s fairly mindless but believe me nobody will notice. It’s great for me because the clone will turn a lot of her profits over to me.”

Morgana blew us a kiss as she disappeared.

“Okay, she may be kind of evil, but she is cool,” Sebastian said.

  “Agreed,” Gail said.

Nimue clapped her hands together. “Now you people all did well. But the job is over, and I really want my privacy. Your options are I can send you all home or turn you into my pet toads. I love toads, you will be well treated.”

“I think I speak for all of us when I say, home please!” I told Nimue.

Nimue smirked. “Have your way.” She snapped her fingers. And we were home.

My thoughts: I’m not sure what amazed me more the fact that I could reject the sword or the fact that Morgana didn’t claim the sword. One thing that certainly didn’t surprise me was how my team, my knights reacted, especially Lance.

  Chapter 15: Task Complete

That night all my Knight, my parents, Ms. Vivian and Mr. Locke meet at our house to have a little celebration. While we all shared the time together, I meet with everybody separately.

Hugging my parents, I said, “thanks for all you’ve done for me. You guys are the best parents!”

“With you as a daughter, being a parent is easy,” Mom said.

“Agreed,” Dad said. “Does this mean Morgana is going to stop poofing me out of the car all the time?”

  “Actually, I have no idea!”

Merlin came up to me next. “I always knew you could do it!” Merlin said.

  “Really?” I asked.

Merlin smiled. “That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.”

“Maybe now that everything is over, Morgana will turn you back to you?” I told him.

“Actually, I like the cat life, no pressure.”

Ms. Vivian and Mr. Locke approached me next. "Sorry, I went a little berserk, in the end, their Gwen. I let that sword get to me."

“Hey, I’m not sure I could have done it without your help. Thank you.” Looking at Mr. Locke. “Your steady hand was truly appreciated.”

“Now that that’s over, maybe you’ll join one of my teams,” the coach in Mr. Locke said.

Brett and Bart both came up to me pumping their hearts with their fists. “Our queen,” they said. “Man, girl you really rocked it out,” Brett said.

“You make being a geek cool,” Bart said.

Arthur came over and took my hand. "Gwen, you've always been an amazing woman. It doesn't matter what era you are in. I'm honored to have been with you once. I even feel an even greater honor to still call you friend. Someday I hope to be as strong as you."

Squeezing his hand, "Arthur you were a boy thrust into a man's world. You kept the world together. And despite the pull from that sword, you stayed a good person. I'm the one who's honored to have you in my life," I said.

Next Paulie and his mom approached me. “As always, my queen, you were amazing,” Paulie said.

"Yes, we have joined the cause late, but we are so glad we could be part of this."

“Your heart and spirit and sweetness are an inspiration to me,” I told them.

Mika ran up to me and hugged me. “GF! I can’t believe I’m a part of this world now!”

Sebastian followed close behind. "Yeah, if somebody told me a couple years ago I would move to a new town and become a knight, I would have thought they were crazy! Wow, it is crazy!"

“Mika you and Sebastian you and Gail were my first friends here. You made me feel welcome. You helped me believe that I could do what I had to do. Plus, it was amazing to bring a couple of fresh perspectives to my knights.”

“Just doing what we can!” Mika said.

  “And loving it!” Sebastian said.

He leaned into me and whispered. “Is it okay for knights to date?”

“Well, ah, it’s never happened in the past since well things were different but sure. Why do you ask?” I asked.

He smiled. “I’m thinking about asking Gail out.”

  “Go for it,” I said.

Gail ran over and hugged me, lifting me off the ground. “Oh, Gwen you are so amazing. Not only as a leader but as a person. You being you helped me be more comfortable being me. You allowed me to accept my strength. I will always be by your side.”

“I’m honored to have you as a friend,” I told Gail. I leaned in and whispered to her. “Now go talk to Sebastian.”

“He is kind of cute, isn’t he?” she laughed.

Finally, Lance walked up to me. “What do we do now my queen?” he asked.

“We make sure Morgana stays in line. Plus, we might have rid the world of a couple of problems but there still is work to be done.”

“True,” Lance said. “I am new to this world, but I see such great potential here. So much knowledge. I guess we will help make sure the knowledge is used properly.”

  I nodded. “Yes, we will.”

  “My queen…”

  “Lance, call me Gwen.”

  “Gwen…”

  “Yes, Lance?”

“I would like permission to kiss you.”

I walked up close to him. I looked into those big blue eyes. “Permission granted!”
