Shit. Goddamn werewolves.
“Don’t feel guilty, we know the break-up with Percy was bad. And vampires are normal for you, so we won’t hold it against you,” Shane smirked.
“Although, was it really a break-up?” Rose narrowed her eyes at me.
“If they ask for space, it usually is,” Shane muttered.
“He hasn’t texted or called, he seemed pretty pissed. If he wants nothing to do with me, then that’s fine,” I tried to brush it off. I would not let Percy ruin my good night.
“He might still come ‘round,” Rose said defiantly.
“Well, what I do in the meantime until he decides to talk to me again is none of his business,” I stated as I crossed my arms.
I would not be made to feel guilty about this. Sure, it was quite soon, but who cared? I was an adult, I could make my own decisions.
“Fine, fine,” Rose put her hands up defensively before she gave a small smile. “What’s a vampire like?”
“Oh for Christ’s sake Rose,” Shane rolled his eyes as she grinned mischievously.
I laughed at the pair, a whole-hearted laugh, one that I needed right now.
“Hey, don’t judge. This whole werewolf and vampire issue dates back years, but people are getting with the times. There are even some strange hybrids coming out,” Rose turned to me.
“Wait, hybrids?” I leaned forward at this intriguing morsel of information.
“Yeah, vampire-werewolf hybrids, well, I think there’s actually just the one. And it wasn’t like she was born from a vampire-werewolf relationship, vampires can’t reproduce, she was created in a lab from my understanding,” Shane explained.
“Damn, and I thought I was special,” I murmured. A hybrid of the two big, bad species? That was something new.
“It’s on the low-key side of things, humans aren’t allowed to know, or they’ll flip out,” Rose pointed out.
“Right,” I nodded. I wouldn’t spill on this interesting piece of information.
“But, we’re straying from the topic here, what was it like?” Rose wiggled an eyebrow at me and I laughed again as Shane rolled his eyes.
“It was nice. We’ve known each other for a long time. He’s sweet, caring, aims to please,” I winked at her and she cackled in delight as Shane groaned.
“Wait, hold up, is this one of your co-workers?” Shane leaned forward with an astonished expression.
Damn.
“Um, well,” I started and the grins that broke out made the heat slowly rise in my cheeks. The cat was out of the bag now.
“Is it Alex? Oh, I can see it being him. Damn, the looks he gives you, he’s got it bad for you,” Rose bounced her feet in excitement.
“Well, Percy would have a fit if it was,” Shane sniggered.
“Well, Percy doesn’t get a say, he wanted space,” I shrugged, although a pang of guilt hit me. I shoved it away as fast it had come.
“So it is Alex!” Rose cackled as Shane shook his head with a grin.
A knock on the door startled me and I shot a look at it in despair. Surely that wasn’t said ‘wolf now?
“I’ll be damned if it’s him coming to make-up,” Rose whispered.
I shushed her as I stood up and strode over to the door.
I prepared myself for the shocked expression and despair I’d see on his face when he caught a whiff of Alex all over me. But maybe it wasn’t Percy. Maybe it was Maurice dropping Axle off early, maybe she had somewhere to be.
The face that greeted me was certainly not what I expected, and my stomach tightened as I gasped.
The older gentleman in his stylish purple suit nodded at me, his brown eyes bright and cheery.
“Ivy, it’s good to see you again,” his tone was bubbly and pleased.
I took a step back as my legs turned to jelly, and Rose gasped as she stood up from the couch in astonishment.
“Dad?” I gasped, my eyes falling to the snorting form beside him. “Is that a pig?”
