Before Laura realized what was going on, Joe got down on one knee in front of everyone at the cookout. “Are you ok? Did you hurt yourself?”
Wolf and Dude snickered behind Laura as Joe shot them an evil glare. “Nae, lass. I’m not hurt.” Joe took a deep breath and let it out.
“Laura Renee Pratt, ye are my everything. In the year we’ve been together, every day I fall in love with ye even more. Ye smile is the first thing I long te see in the morning. Hearing ye soft snore at night, knowing ye are next to me,” Joe chuckled as Laura flipped him off for saying she snores. “Aye love ye do snore, that’s how I ken I am home with ye. I nae thought I’d settle for one woman or want te be a father with my career. But this past year with ye and Cody has made me realize I dinnae what a dumbarse I was in that thinking. Now I cannae imaging my life without ye two. I cannae wait for my day to end at work so that I can get home te ye both.”
“Jesus Christ man, just fucking bloody ask her already. Mum will be old and wrinkled by the time ye damn speech is made.”
Joe glared at the man who spoke up, flipping him off to the chuckles of everyone in the crowd then he turned back around to Laura. “Before the arseoff coo of a brother interrupted, Laura Renee Pratt, would ye do me the honor of wearing my grandmother’s ring and becoming my wife?”
Joe opened the box, took the ring, and placed it on her ring finger as he stared up at her.
Laura kept staring at the ring with tears streaming down her face. Her son Cody leaned into her, “Um mom, I think he’s waiting for an answer. Can he be my dad?”
Everyone laughed at Cody’s attempt of being quiet. Laura looked at Joe and nodded her head, “Aye, I’ll marry you.”
Everyone cheered as Joe picked her up and spun her around as he kissed her. “About bloody fucking time. Mum has been blowing up my phone asking if the daft arse has asked her yet.”
Laura looked at the voice and laughed. Running into Joe’s younger brother Marcus’ arms to hug and kiss him. “Says the man who’s being the bigger jackass instead of making the move on a woman he’s been drooling after for a year now.”
After teasing Marcus, Laura went back to Joe and wrapped her arms around his midsection and looked up into his eyes. She was finally home.

Being born a military brat but unable to join the military herself due to her deafness, she gave in to her inherited love of travel and has no problems picking up and throwing a bag in the car with one of her kids and just going where the wind blows her.
