He holds his hands up, stepping away with a smile. “I promised you I would stop trying so hard. And I am. I’m being me. And a part of being me is mending a wrong. Open it.”
My eyebrows draw together at his cryptic words. Slowly, I pull the tape off the box, then take out the polystyrene protector. I look up at him and he gives me an encouraging smile.
“Open it,” he orders gently.
The tape on the two-polystyrene blocks that are pressed together has already been cut open, so I pull the top one off, sucking in a breath.
I tilt my head up, staring at him open-mouthed. “You didn’t,” I choke out, tears gathering in my eyes.
“I did. I know it will never have the same sentiment as the other one, but I wanted you to have this.”
The glass figurine is beautiful and exactly the same as the one that he broke.
“I don’t know what to say,” I tell him, my voice low as I run my finger over the glass.
He didn’t need to go to the trouble of having this made. Which I knew had to be true because my mum told me my grandpa had it made for my grandma.
It might not be the original, but the sentiment means just as much to me.
“Say thank you,” Rebecca groans, before retching.
“You aren’t mad or upset, are you?” he asks, rubbing the back of his neck.
Leaning up on the tips of my toes, I press a kiss to the corner of his mouth, smiling when he relaxes. “I love it. I love you. Thank you so much.” I kiss him again, this time massaging my tongue against his.
It’s Rebecca’s retching that has me pulling away.
Wyatt looks down at her, a frown marring his forehead. “Shouldn’t morning sickness be done in the morning?”
“No shit,” Rebecca snaps.
“You’re pregnant?” Eli breathes out, dropping the box to the floor. He winces when something inside smashes, but his gaze never wavers from Rebecca’s.
Fuck!
Getting up off the bed, she tugs the dressing gown tighter around herself, her hands shaking. “Yes.”
“Is it… is it mine?” he asks, moving his gaze down to her belly.
Her hand goes to her stomach in a protective gesture before her gaze meets mine, silently pleading with me to keep quiet. It was her decision and I will stand by her. I’ve already warned her to learn by my mistakes. Secrets will get her nowhere.
She wants time to get her head together before she tells him.
“Yours?” Wyatt asks, his head twisting side to side, trying to glance at them both.
Rebecca forces out a laugh. “Sorry. I’ve not had time to tell the father yet. It was a one-night stand and not something I think he’s ready for.”
“That doesn’t answer my question,” Eli growls, stepping forward.
“Well, it’s the only fucking answer you’re getting. It’s none of your business. Now fuck off.”
Eli pales, stepping back until his back hits the wall. “I’m going to be a dad?”
“Someone tell me what the hell is going on,” Wyatt demands, pulling me into his arms.
“Rebecca,” I whisper, hating the tears filling her eyes.
“No, Eli, you aren’t. I’m going to be a mum,” she tells him, before brushing past him, heading out of the room.
Eli turns to me, blinking away his thoughts. “That’s my baby, isn’t it?”
“Please don’t get me involved. This is a conversation you need to have with Rebecca.”
He jerks his head, gaze now on the door she left through. “I— I need to go.”
“Wait,” Wyatt calls out, but Eli ignores him. A few seconds later, the front door opens, then slams shut.
“Shit,” I grumble.
“Is it Eli’s baby?”
I bite my lip, nodding. “Please don’t be mad at her. She’s still coming to terms with it and Eli didn’t exactly handle their one-night stand that well. It hurt her.”
With careful movements, he takes the figurine from my hand, placing it on the bookshelf on the other side of the door before prowling towards me.
“You aren’t mad, are you?” I ask worriedly.
“No. This is between Eli and Rebecca.”
“Then why do you have that look on your face?”
His pupils dilate as he grips the back of thighs, his thumbs digging into my arse. “Because we’re alone and I’ve missed you.”
He drops me down on the bed, straddling my thighs before leaning over me. “And I’m about to show you how much.”
My jaw aches from smiling. “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
I moan into his mouth when he kisses me, lost in the sensations running through my body.
“For fuck’s sake. I’m going to get some chicken nuggets. Be fucking done by the time I get back,” Rebecca yells.
I pull away, laughter spilling out of me as I shove my face into Wyatt’s shoulder.
“Get me a Big Mac meal and nine nuggets,” Wyatt yells.
“Are you fucking serious?” she bites out, then sarcastically asks, “Did you want something too, Evie?”
“Um, I’ll have a chicken select meal,” I tentatively call back.
The door slams shut, and I bite my lip to stop the laughter. Wyatt grins down at me, looking hot as hell. “Where were we?”
“You were about to fuck me,” I remind him huskily, and his grin spreads wider.
My heart aches with happiness. We might have had a bump in the road, and I won’t lie and say I don’t think we’ll have a few more—maybe not as extreme though. But if there is one thing I know for sure… we’ll get through it.
Because love always wins.
And our love can’t be measured.
It can’t be bought.
And it can’t be broken.
We took a chance and we won.
And now we have forever.

Thank you for continuing to support my books.
I know many were expecting Maddox’s book, and I promise you, he is next. If you are in my readers group, you’ll know Wyatt, Maddox and Lily’s books will all be connected somehow. It all starts with the teaser I left hanging in this book and will continue through Maddox until Lily’s book. And I know you are dying for a release date, and I wish I had one, but I don’t. Please be patient while I work on them.
This book wouldn’t be completed without Stephanie Farrant. Thank you for your attention to detail and your supporting feedback and hard work.
I’m proud of you for all you have achieved this year and I’m grateful for all that you do.
My next acknowledgements go to the beautiful Maddox Moran, Hayley’s Book Corner, Ashley Stroud and Raven Amor for beta reading Eye for an Eye. Your feedback and dedication to the story has been astounding and incredibly helpful.
