“Rose,” said Thomas. “These are the very steps where I first discovered you as a baby. Maybe I am being sentimental, but I would like the joy of watching mother and daughter walk up them and over the threshold into Campion’s together.”
Thomas unlocked the heavy door. Rose and Nell gazed at each other for a moment, and then they smiled, linked arms and walked up the steps. Rose felt as if she was walking into her future.
Rory and Effie rushed up the stairs and threw their arms around the pair, as Grace, Edward, Thomas and Freddie looked on, beaming. Rose put out her hand to them and pulled them into the circle. Everyone she loved was here, and Campion’s had never felt more like home.
