His whole body tensed as did hers and their cries mingled in release. He let himself go, filling her. Her heartbeat strummed against his chest and their harsh breathing filled the quiet room.
He rolled to the side and drew her against him.
“What have you done to me?” he asked.
“You?” She giggled. “My toes are numb.” She stretched onto her back and stretched her arms above her head.
Braylon chuckled. Reaching over her, he grabbed the candy dish on the bedside table.
“What are you doing?”
“Hush,” he said, as he took the pieces and made a line down the middle of her naked body. “As we get to know each other better, you’ll find out I have a real addiction to candy corn. I stockpile it and then I have a stash for the whole year. Half the front entry closet is full of it.”
“Candy corn… huh. Interesting addiction.” Veronica wiggled up on her arms. She paused and looked at him. “I really like you, so do you think we could have more than just sex between us?”
“If we can keep our hands off each other for longer than five minutes, I’d like to find out.”
She smiled and something flipped in his heart. “I’m happy there was the mix up on Halloween, and I ended up with you and not your brother. Sometimes, things are meant to be.”
Braylon dipped his head and ate the first piece of candy off her stomach. “Not as happy as I am. Maybe it was no trick of fate. I think that you might just be the best Halloween treat I’ve ever had. You’re what I need for the long, cold winter nights ahead.”
She smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck to yank him in for a lengthy, sweet kiss.
